(It was closed in 2011.) Amity Trails Park is 8.5 acres of tree-covered open space that is surrounded by private homes & paved roads. It holds approximately five wooden, covered picnic tables (no grills), some wooden benches, a wooden bike rack, & some trash cans. There's a mulched walking trail, but perhaps the best feature is the large open area that makes this park great for a friendly game of football, soccer, kickball, & frisbee. Visitors can even toss a blanket on the ground for a picnic lunch. There is an area for parking; it is covered in small white rocks. As I exited my vehicle & walked into the park, I was almost immediately greeted by a large turtle who hurried into her underground home. What a lovely little park that brings nature into the heart of a busy town. If I lived closer, I would picnic here often.

There's a playground, picnic area, benches and a meeting house that's locked when not in use. There is also a garden with some labeled wildflowers in it as well as a plaque commemorating Robert J. Tietz who worked for Pasco county for more than two decades and helped establish it's land acquisition and preservation program. Signage discusses some of the wildlife and a map is posted. The preserve is good for hiking. There are a couple of looping trails off to the right (I think they go about 1.5 miles) and an elevated boardwalk trail over cypress swamp off to the left including a branch trail to a giant cypress tree. And this review was written from the perspective of a lone, unarmed female who drives a Toyota SUV. In other words, take it from whence it comes... No park is worth RUINING my vehicle. Expect about 1/2 miles of pothole after pothole, broken gravel, & one crater that would truly be hazardous if a tire fell into it. No vehicle should travel this road to the county park, although there are homes & mobile homes along the drive. Truly one of the worst roads I've ever experienced! There was no one in the park upon my visit-- at least no other vehicle was parked in the designated lot. Had I screamed, NO ONE would have heard me but the animals. I did not feel safe being there alone. And NO DOGS are allowed. I didn't take many pics; I was too busy looking around to see if Freddy Krueger, Patrick Bateman, Norman Bates, Candyman, Leatherface, Ghostface, Hannibal Lecter, Michael Myers, Scarecrow, Negan, Reaper, Jason Vorhee, Chucky, & others of that ilk were following me! I highly suggest you read KEN K's review; he covered the park beautifully w/ words & pics. I also suggest you follow his bug spray recommendation. Will I return to hike this park? There's a quaint little bridge overpass on the river that is great for snapping photos. The most interesting thing is the questionable little pool area that is fenced in. My husband and I brought our two grandchildren and daughter-in-law here for a family camping trip, and it exceeded every expectation we had. The property is absolutely stunning -- over 500 acres of peaceful scenery filled with lakes, wildlife, and beautiful open spaces. We spent time exploring on a four-wheeler and were amazed by everything we saw, from alligators and countless birds to longhorn steers, goats, and ducks roaming the grounds. It felt like stepping into a hidden slice of natural Florida paradise. One of our favorite areas was the shaded grove of majestic oak trees with oversized swings where the children played and "hung out". It created such a relaxing, family-friendly atmosphere that made the entire trip feel magical. The campground itself was extremely well maintained. The restrooms and showers were plentiful, spotless, and clearly cared for with attention to detail. It's also exciting to see how much love and vision is being poured into the property. During our stay, they appeared to be expanding with what looks like a beautiful waterfront wedding venue complete with a gazebo and bridge -- absolutely picturesque. This was one of the most memorable family trips we've had in a long time. The combination of natural beauty, peaceful surroundings, wildlife, and thoughtful amenities made for an unforgettable experience. We are already looking forward to returning.

We had never experienced this type of camping before, having roaming goats, horses and steers mingling with us temporary residents. They employees round up the above noted animals and return them to their designated areas in the evening, so you need not worry about bumping into them in the dark or having them ransack your campsite during the night. They have a few rope platform swings for the kids, or adults if you want to sway. Fire pits and picnic benches are standard at each site. The lake views and hiking trails are awesome, with plenty of fish viewable from the raised shorelines. You can fish here as well, so bring your pole and gear if inclined. The onsite restrooms and showers were impeccably clean. The check in process was a breeze, albeit you need to sign your life away at the beginning. The check in staff provided a printed out scavenger hunt for the kids, who can win an ice cream bar if they find everything that is listed within the camp. The camp store was stocked with items one may have left behind, and reasonably priced. We would (will) go back one day!

Kudos to the people working there for providing such a beautiful place!
