When it comes to the Halloween season, a lot of people flock to Nightmare on 13th. Arguably, the most popular haunted house in the Salt Lake area. You know what the real nightmare on 13th is? The amount of time you spend waiting in line, only to be swindled in, back to back with other patrons through the haunt. Enter Dead City, a relatively new haunt (within the past couple of years) that serves as the antidote to Nightmare on 13th. As usual, I really only knock stars because I wish the hands on experience was a bit more intense, but I get it, Dead City is brand new and probably not eager to get a lawsuit. No pun intended, there is a little bit of "dead space" where it's a bit thematically dull, and the scares are in short supply. But my God, when these people scare you they SCARE you. I came on Halloween, and I don't know if it was the last day of the season or what, but those actors were insane. Lots of rooms are really creative, and the end is essentially a maze. Where the actors will not help you out just to rush you along. Last night we went for "Krampus" night, which was festive as all get out. It was essentially a 2 for 1 experience. You got to have some scares, and see some Christmas lights. What's a word for something that's both fantastic and terrifying at the same time? Nonetheless, loved the creativity. My wife and I went to Dead City for their Krampus event and it did not disappoint. We are pretty big haunted house fans and having the combination of the horror and Christmas theme was really cool. I can appreciate all the work that went into making this, and there are some pretty cool features of the setup they have ( especially the 3D section) though, honestly, it wasn't scary at all. Most of it is just people banging on loud things and screaming. It would definitely be worth a walk through if it wasn't for the $25 price tag. $10-$15 would make it worth it to me. read more

The good -Fair price for what you get. -a long experience with lots of rooms. -it is scary which can be difficult to accomplish. -great customer service. -No lines (yet). This is a somewhat underrated haunt. When word gets out it's going to blow up. It's very similar to Rocky Point back in the day. Go before it really takes off. -Quality assurance. The owner spoke with us after. You can tell he really cares about the experience. -Great actors very interactive. The bad -This is not really bad. It's just not needed or needs an update. Wow, just wow. This is Utah's most promising and actually scariest haunt that rivals the "big boys" in town for a (bit of) a better price. These guys specialize in jam-packing sets with horror animatronics. Every room seems to have a terror-inducing corner animatronic jumpscare(s). This is also by far the most unnervingly loud haunted house. Most of the sets here are truly immersive and have lot of consideration- the creepiest ones had an animatronic guy drop on you from the ceiling or had a darkened medical room with flashing carnage from broken & bloodied loud electronics. Also props to this year's chainsaw guy who doesn't just annoyingly stand there revving it up for the girls, instead he lurches disturbingly towards you like in a horror game! Great actors, Dead City. The other staff are on the interesting side but still fun. I got a genuinely fun-loving feeling here I used to feel down at Nightmare at 13th. I don't usually get this scared at Haunted Houses and I don't feel like I wasted my money. This is by far my most terror-inducing haunt out of Fear Factory, Nightmare on 13th, Castle of Chaos, and Haunted Forest/Hollow. 4 out of 5 stars, I had so much fun, I wish the experience was longer so be sure to take your time and enjoy the sets! Dead City Haunted House was AMAZING guys!!! Honestly I've never screamed so much in my life. The whole production was amazing. For only being around 2 years, they definitely compete with the big guys that have been around much longer! The props and animatronics were unique and badass, the actors were great, every room was so freakin creative, and the best part was that it was longer than most haunted houses. Came to Utah for a couple days from California. We had some a great experience last year at the Nightmare on 13th st so we decided to do another one this year. Unfortunately, we picked poorly this time. We went off the 6 "5 star" Yelp reviews--which now appear to be staged reviews to prop up their rating--and we were pretty disappointed. Here's the breakdown: The good: --Was not packed at all so we got in quickly --The 3D portion of the attraction is actually really cool. It was our favorite part. --free rock stars at the tent in front of the building! --friendly staff The bad: --The acting was just not good. I'm sorry but it was more detracting than anything. We spent the extra dollar for the "light touching allowed" feature and the actors relied waaayyyyy to heavily on grabbing onto you and blocking your path--both of which were more annoying than scary. --many of the rooms were very similar in their design--just a bunch of bodies with their chests open and guts out. After a while, we were hoping for something different. The second half gets better--once you head upstairs--but the first half was a struggle. --it still needs some better organization. Even though we purchased tickets online, they still had issues scanning our barcodes and getting us going. Overall? Not worth the 27 bucks we each paid. They are really trying, but you will get more for your dollar at one of the other venues. read more

I have traveled around the United stages and been through several haunts in several states. I think the concept of the animatronics was pretty cool, other than there was too many. I like to enjoy looking around and admiring the work put into the set up. However with the amount of animatronics and fog it made it very difficult to do. I felt very rushed through each room by staff and the actors just yelled in your ear without being interactive at all. Seemed like a younger cast with lack of training. I would have loved to see more set themes, it was really hard to tell what was going on and what I was truly looking at. However, the animatronics are handmade and I definitely commend the effort put in as this is very different from what I've seen. With understanding this a new haunt, I'm just giving feedback as I know y'all will grow. read more

It was disappointing. I know it's new and only a couple years old, but on a Saturday night it was not the hype the reviews led us to Believe. The first couple rooms started off strong but then led to each room being the same after that. Inconsistent scaring. Walking up front of our group was the least scary. It seemed like we were followed by the same 4 actors through the whole thing. I couldn't grasp the theme. It looked Egyptian then turned into zombies and clowns. There was only one part that really got me and that was a crawl space with a chainsaw guy on the other side. Hands on wasn't even hands on. Other haunted houses take you away and bag your head and push you around. This hands on felt like i was having 12-15 year olds graze my shoulder like it was their first time touching someone they like on the shoulder. I really wish I had spent my money else wear for a real thrill. To sum it up. Too many Animatronics. Spend the money on investing and hiring better actors who can actually scare people and not just stand in corners hoping they'll get a scare. You can see them coming from a mile away too. I expect this review to get sent to the "not recommended " section at the bottom and buried so no one will read it and I would like to give these rip off artists no stars but I don't think it will let me. So, let me tell you what happened. Me, my hubby and our son went to this place for my son's birthday. It was a Thursday, not the weekend so it wasn't that busy and they had just opened so we were not in that long of a line. It got darker, the line moved and we made it to the ticket booth where we told the girl at the counter we wanted 3 tickets. A note here, this place says they don't offer any refunds on their ticket sales, remember that. Anyway, we order our tickets and I hear the girl say " oh shoot!" She is staring at the iPad they are using for their point of sales and to generate the receipts. She shows the iPad to another girl in the booth and they start to fuss with the screen. Then she comes back to me and said "I'm sorry, I charged you for 4 people not three. At that point I ask for the refund and they said they don't do refunds and ask if I wanted to upgrade my tickets! SCAM ARTISTS! They made the mistake and even though they said they would correct on the computer, they never did. This is a buyer beware story, they are not ethical people so don't do business with them. read more

My teenage son and 25-year-old son had a great time at Dead City Haunted House this week. My teenager loved paying a little bit extra so that the monsters would grab him and add a little bit more to the scare factor. My older son loved the 3-D maze and tunnel. Love this haunted house. To be honest I was a little bit skeptical at first. There was hardly any line and no scary creatures or anything on the outside like all of the other haunted houses. But once inside it was amazing. All of the rooms were crazy cool and very life like. My favorites had to be the doll room and the whole 3D part. Having them hand you 3D glasses while you walk through was something that set them aside from the other haunted houses. Definitely planning on going again next year. read more

I used to be a huge advocate for Rocky Point haunted house years ago. When they closed the doors, I was pretty bummed. Pouncing around from one haunted house to the next, never found one that quite had the "it" factor. One that I truly enjoyed, had plenty of scares, talented actors, and friendly staff. Dead City boasts somewhere near 40 rooms, as well as an advertised 45 minute walkthrough. Both of these are true and the experience is immersive and extremely fun. Great actors, thoughtful scares, haunts and creeps to go around. For an extra $1.00, you can get interactive with light touching. We were preemptive, however went ahead and gave in. It truly made the experience. There isn't an excessive amount of grabbing, they do not cross the line, it adds the perfect touch to offer a thrilling horror experience. Dead City, for their first year has done an amazing job and is well worth getting out to experience the horror, we can't wait to see what dead city offers, changes and continues to innovate in the years to come. read more

We had a great time at this haunted house. The location is in front of a cemetery and in an old building. We had gone to a different haunted house the night before that was a major let down. Dead city had so much more to offer. There were great effects and props and scenery and makeup on the characters. It took us about a half hour to walk thru. The spacing of people going thru was great. We didn't feel rushed and all the scares weren't ruined by people in front of us. I loved the animatronics and 3D art and different types of scare tactics. The characters didn't just come up to you and say dumb things. They felt part of the actual room. I'm excited for the future of this one. Kudos to those involved. read more

I went to this haunted house last year and I liked it. So when I came back this year I was pleasantly surprised at how much they had improved. Not only am I a fan of their covid-19 precautions, but they upped their decor, and they had some super cool sections. Took us about 24 minutes to get through, but we moved pretty quickly. I wanted to go to a Haunted house on Halloween since I had the night off. My sister and I went expecting not to be 100% impressed because first year haunts are hard. I usually do VIP passes for haunts because it gets me to the scare quicker but after you buy your tickets everyone goes in at the same rate so I felt like I waisted the extra 10$/ticket. I also spent a dollar for the touch level but with so few actor interactions it almost didn't feel worth it. I also didn't appreciate the random hand coming out the wall groping my upper thigh near my privates, I don't mind getting touched/dragged off in haunts but I think that area is off limits. The lighting was great and I liked the 3D part but the rest was just empty rooms with animatronics and air blasts. Most of the actors were in the clown maze and they learned my name via my sister calling me when we got separated and so the actors proceeded to over use my name, I heard my name used over 75 times in the 15ish minutes we spent going from one room to another room back and forth between the two until one of them told us about the exit. Not bad for a first year but not good either I might have enjoyed my evening better at one of the other haunts or just watching a scary movie in my toasty warm blanket pile. No idea why the reviews are so good on this haunted house. I'd have to say this was the worst haunted house I've been to. The beginning video part the audio was completely out of sync with the girls mouth. The second part you couldn't even understand what the skeleton was saying and it was waaaaay too long. It's just small room after small room with too many air blasts and the smell was awful, like cheap cologne. It was over bearing. It was the same few actors just "scaring" us repeatedly. There was multiple times stuff would drop from the ceiling and hit my boyfriend in the head and animatronics jumped out and physically crashed into him. We ended up catching up to the SIX people in front of us and couldn't stop and wait for them to be further ahead because there was people behind us. So there was 10 people going through at the same time. We also kept getting lost and the one clown in the area was busy scaring people behind us so he couldn't tell us where to go.
