(Many towns have them, so I'm not quite sure if it's a chain, or just a beloved Dutch institution, in the manner that American cities need drive-up diners.) So, as the name would suggest, it's literally a large historic boat, still in the water, that's been converted into a restaurant that sells pancakes. These aren't pancakes in the manner that Americans think of them. To us, they'd be more akin to crepes. They come in every manner of savory and sweet. The staff was happy to accommodate my request to enjoy a veggie crepe. The size of the crepe was huge! In a break with the norm for dining in the Netherlands, the staff didn't look at me as though I was insane for requesting the left-overs to-go. (A disgusting habit in the eyes of most Europeans...) In fact they even had pre-made to-go boxes. 'T Pannekoekschip has a children's play area, which is a nice touch for families dining here.

We were there the day after Kings day and it was a lovely morning. The weather was cool, but not cold and we were able to enjoy the nice breeze and canal boats passing by. I was also able to connect to the WiFi from the Casino across the river. It was weak, but still worked. We were seated outside and waited almost 10 minutes before anyone came by to take our order for food and drinks. We ordered the banana crepe to share and I got a coffee while my wife ordered the pear juice. The pair juice comes from a bottle. The coffee was served in a small cup and was ok. I am used to drinking it with cream and sweetener. But Europeans don't have these items, so I just drank it with sugar. I think we waited almost 30 minutes before our food came out. Now, we only ordered crepes with bananas inside. Usually at the mall, it takes a few minutes to make crepes. I don't know how it took almost 30 minutes for them to make 1 item. Mind you, the place was not full when we came, so I don't understand how long we had to wait for our server to order our food and why it took so long for them to make our food. Once it finally came out, I thought the crepe was good, but not out of your mind fantastic. It's just basic tbh. WE GOT LUCKY as a table was available because someone didn't show for their reservations!! We ordered the special of the day, blueberry & cream, and a bacon, cheese and apple pancake. Quickly cooked up and served and boy were they both delicious! I also didn't know it was a cash only establishment or debit card. Whom I presume was the owner was so sweet and again luckily our US credit card could be processed as debit. Saved me from having to do dish duty! Definitely a must do in Amsterdam but make a reservation and carry cash! Also to note, they only have 4 tables and if you're more than 5 minutes late for your reservation they may have given away your table!
