Where better can you be in the summer than on big terrace with the sun on your face?…read more This is the kind of place that makes me quiet the office earlier during the summer and just let's me continue working here. Take my laptop, have a soda or a beer and enjoy the sunshine and the sundown while you enjoy the great service which is offered by Nathalie and Jessica. Back then it was a thriving restaurant and one of the places to be in Antwerp if you were looking for a good steak. I am not sure if it is me who has changed or the restaurant but I have been traveling more to good steakhouses all over the world and I found my last visit to De Veehandel unimpressive vs some other of my faves. The starter (Tomate Crevette) was taste-wise not bad but presentation was a bit sloppy. Also the steak is just a-ok, nothing special. In addition, I feel like the service is just average. All-in all just a meh experience. Nothing much to complain but I wasn't wowed either. I really think De Veehandel has had it's best days and there are better places to eat steak in Belgium.

We spent 100's of Euros and ordered 4 different cuts. Not one was what it supposed to be. The rib-eye was a gigantic piece of black fat with a small bit of dry pink flesh attached. The' fillet pure' which should be the tenderest part of beef was a 39 euro piece of chewy old rump steak. An atrocious experience.

I was in a party of six celebrating a birthday, and we were seated in the back, near the bar. The hostess is a genuine delight; warm, funny, social and yet not pushy. Nome doesn't work with a menu card, instead they offer fresh plates based on chef's inspiration. We went for appetisers, mains and desserts. The apps and mains were presented beautifully, and there was plenty of choice (apps: bruscheta, shrimp croquettes, salmon tartare, mains: lamb, steak two ways, Iberico pig, fish or a veggie pasta). The house wines they serve alongside the dishes, are decent. Sauvignon, Chardonnay, mainly. The portion sizes are perfect. You don't overeat, but you'll definitely be full. Beautiful presentation, can't stress that enough. Bonus: every table gets free water (still and fizzy, both Chaudfontaine), free bread (with butter and oil), coffees come with digestive biscuits. When presented with the bill, we were also given shot glasses with an amaretto/orange juice mix. Delicious. If you are in Antwerp and fancy a great meal, please go to Nome. Hilariously fantastic hostess, great food, cool atmosphere, delicious French/Italian/Belgian cuisine. Definitely a must!
