Please Read Before Accepting Black Box Prize Gift Cards at Bargain Depot on Goliad Road…read more (San Antonio Shoppers) I want to share my recent experience so no one else runs into the same problem. Nov 14, 2025, I won a $50 Google Play gift card at Bargain Depot, but had to pay $6 because the card came in a "$6 day" black box. I gave it to my son as a birthday gift. When he tried to redeem it, he found out from Google Play that the card was never activated at the store. Gift card activation is something only the store can do at the register. I went back today, Dec 11, 2025, with the physical card in perfect condition. Instead of helping, I was told: "Too much time passed." "We can't do anything about the card." "No one else has had this issue, only you." "We don't know what you did with the card." Not only did they refuse to activate the card or refund the $6 fee, they shifted the blame onto me -- even though activation is 100% the store's responsibility. The card is unexpired, unused, and clearly not activated. The store has complete transactional documentation and photos. Just a warning for others: If you receive or "win" any gift card in a Bargain Depot black box, make sure the store activates it before you leave. If there's an issue later, you may not receive any help from them. Sharing this so others can avoid the same frustration.

I did, however, notice that there was a set of cameras brought into the parking lot, that had a flashing blue light atop the pole they were mounted to. This was a nice deterrent for those looking to do some shopping in the parking lot lol. I give them a 4 star rating, which I would definitely change to 5 if they can give a more secure feeling while shopping.
