I love looking up at the Washington Monument on a Thursday evening as the sun is going down from first base thinking "I wonder what all my friends are doing back home right now?" Whether you already have a team of players, a group of 3-9 friends you want to play with, or just joining by yourself, their awesome staff will take care of you and get you all set up during registration. There are a couple other leagues in DC (think some of them are even more expensive), and I have more people coming from those leagues because they really werent very "fun",

I'm going to go ahead and say it, there were dudes on other teams that just made it so unpleasant to be on field. I think we get into this hoping it will not be like our kickball experiences in middle school, and usually during every game, there was a moment where I felt like "really? I thought we were adults." DC Kickball, unlike some other city teams, does not hire refs, which I think is fine. Refs are volunteers from teams that are not playing. What upset me the most was that dudes from some of the teams argued every call, not letting it go, ganging up on the volunteer refs. I certainly won't be playing next season.

District Sports:…read more I really have enjoyed playing soccer with District sports. I am realizing how much I miss playing soccer in the District Sports leage now in this Covid era where sports are off the table for a bit! Pros: Cost: Only about $80 for a season- not too bad, and probably breaks down to about $10 a game or less. Locations: The fields are pretty conveniently located, not too far to get to. Team captains have a say in what fields are played on, as well as the schedules of the games, and they take into account where players on the teams live. General game conditions: The fields were in good condition. Games were held on both grass and turf fields, and referees for the games seemed competent and always showed up on time. Diversity: There are lots of folks of all different ages and skill levels in this league. The league is coed. The average age is probably 28ish, if I had to guess. There are definitely more men than women in this league. Social element: There is a social element to this league. After wins, many teams go out for drinks or food. Friendships are definitely built in this league. Cons: This con is more of a pro, in some ways. Because the league is coed, but male dominated, there's a rule that asks that at least three female players be on the field at all times, for each team playing. If there are not enough girls, a team has to forfeit the win, regardless of the score. Because of this, sometimes, as a girl, when teams playing games either before or after your scheduled game are short on female players, they will ask you to play for them in their games. If you want to get some extra play in, it is very easy to play for other teams who need female players to have to not forfeit games. You also will get a lot of playing time as a girl in general, because of the way league rules are structured, and because of the general shortage of girl players.

All skills levels are welcomed. There's no "side tackling" and the field is shorter, so you're likely to survive. Soccer is only the beginning. They offer indoor soccer, futsol, frisbee, 7 on 7 soccer, indoor kickball, and basketball. There's plenty to do year round with this league and the fees are very reasonable. If you can sign up with a team, or just walking a meet some new people. Everyone is incredibly friendly, great adult recreational league. And, yes, they do like to party too. Just fyi, if you're very a competitive soccer player, this isn't the league for you.

Happy Hour specials at closer bars are better than the AASL specials. - Also, team payments is required rather than individual payments when signing up as a team. Football vs Dodgeball: I have played in two seasons of flag football & two seasons of dogdeball - football is much more fun but dodgeball is not bad for the winter season. - The best part of the dodgeball season is the flipcup tourney at the end of the season. I've lived in the city for over 20 years and I literally had no idea this recreation center even…read moreexisted. Someone told me about it so I came here to check it out this morning. It seems like the indoor pool is an Olympic sized pool and when aI got here they were doing some type of class there. There is also an indoor basketball court that I'm sure gets used a lot during the weekend. There was nobody in there this Thursday morning. The gym was disappointing however because there wasn't much to it at all. What I did like was the outdoor circular path which is about 2.5 times the length of an actual track. I would for sure make use of it if I lived a little closer. The baseball field also looked like it was in good condition. I was told that I need to sign up on their website in order to use the recreation center.

The tennis center has a variety of courts, including the main courts and several smaller courts, which I thought made it a great location to host the DC Open. The facility is very spacious, and there are plenty of bathrooms available throughout the center, which was definitely convenient with such a large crowd. The only downside for me was the parking situation during the event. Parking wasn't the easiest to navigate, but I'm assuming that on a regular day when there isn't a major event happening, parking is much easier and accessing the courts is more convenient. Overall, I thought this was a great venue for the DC Open, and I enjoyed my experience visiting the tennis center!

There were several children from tennis camps in attendance and they actively engaged them and imparted encouraging words. I had a great time. There were several food and drink vendors aswell as brands offering free samples. The food was delicious. I loved the lobster rolls from the oyster bar. I had a great time at the DC Citi Open and highly recommend it. On-site parking is available.

Came into DC to visit and was looking for a place to train and found DC Weightlifting Club, which…read moreis the same location as Crossfit DC. Their barbell club hours are only 8:30pm-10pm, which at first I thought was odd, but I get it people work 8 hour days and they want to go home, eat with their families, and then go train and then sleep! haha Which is actually awesome and ended up working great for me, especially after touring around the city all day. I got to meet the team and everyone was so nice and welcoming! The facility was really open, they have Rogue and I think either Eleiko/ Werksan weights. They also had Eleiko/ competition barbells to lift with and other bars to squat with. I had a great training session with the team and the energy there was strong and alive. It didn't make me feel like "it's getting late" or sleepy. USAW members lift for free, which was something I really respect, since back at home that's what our barbell club does as well! The head coaches weren't there because they, themselves were competing at Masters Nationals, which can show you that these coaches have passion, dedication, and discipline for the sport as well. A really good experience all around! I recommend to everyone!

I recently visited the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) in College Park for a women's tennis…read moreclass hosted by a women's health organization and I was genuinely surprised by the facility. As someone who grew up in the area and went to school in College Park, I somehow had no idea this place even existed! Even though the facility is slated for renovations soon, it's still very nice in its current state. They have both indoor and outdoor courts, spacious locker rooms, and a really nice clubhouse area. The atmosphere felt active and welcoming, especially on a busy Saturday afternoon. The staff members assigned as our coaches for the day were also incredibly kind and patient as they helped us work on our form and learn the basics of tennis. As someone newer to the sport, I really appreciated how encouraging and approachable they were. I've recently picked up tennis as a hobby and have been exploring clubs in the area to potentially join, and JTCC is definitely high on my list now. My only small critique is that I wasn't able to speak with anyone at the front desk because it was so busy, and the website doesn't list membership pricing, so I'll have to call for more details. Still, overall I left really impressed and excited to come back!

They currently have an offer where if you buy one group lesson package ($60) you get to bring a friend with you for free. My friend and I learned so much over the 3 weeks that we attended. They have various day and time options for you to choose from and there's an ample amount of parking. My friend I are now taking tennis 2 lessons once a week and we are obsessed.
