She would not eat, she was vomiting everything up, and breathing raspy. I rushed her into the office apologizing about not having an appointment but that my little girl was very sick, they took no time to waste and brought her back and did an exam on her. They kept her throughout the day to watch over her and provide IV fluid while I was at work. The same night she started showing improving signs. This morning (Friday) she is about 85% better! She's going in today so they can give her 1 more round of IV and so they can keep an eye on her. I know by tomorrow she will be 95%-100% due to their attentiveness and care!!

I don't live near the ACC; in fact, I live in downtown Houston. But I shopped around and the price for the initial, "new patient" visit was $55 at the ACC, including shots and feline HIV, compared to $175 at the River Oaks Animal Clinic and Cat Vet Clinic. I didn't even think twice about making the drive to Huffman to save $120. Located near 1960 and FM 2100, the Animal Care Center is exactly what you want in a vet -- caring and plentiful staff, a clean facility, plenty of customers (usually meaning they're really good), and, a vet who takes time to get to know you and your pet. We had to wait longer than I would have liked once they got us into the exam room (about 25 minutes), but the care the vet gave to my cat totally made up for it. I even got a post-visit call to check on Abby and to ensure we'd had a good visit. Who does that?! I'll tell you who -- the Animal Care Center of Lake Houston. Go there -- today!

By the time I arrived at Atascocita Animal Hospital, it was about 20 minutes before they officially opened. The door happened to be unlocked, so I went in, explained the situation, and asked if there was any chance they could help. Even though they're appointment-only, they kindly told me they would see if they could squeeze us in and they did!!! I am incredibly grateful they made the time for us. From the moment I walked in, everyone was so kind. The woman at the front desk was genuinely warm and compassionate. I was under a lot of stress, and I really appreciated how calm and soft-spoken the entire staff was. The technician and the veterinarian were both very gentle with Zen, and you could tell they truly cared about making him as comfortable as possible. We're still waiting on some of his test results, but they gave him fluids and took the time to evaluate him thoroughly. That gave me some peace of mind during a difficult day. The only downside for me was the cost. I do feel the visit was on the procier side, so if you're on a tight budget, that's something to keep in mind. However, the level of compassion, professionalism, and care we received made for a very positive experience overall. The last time we went there, The female tech that said she was doing the exams were a joke. She looked at my dog, squeezed her a little bit and said she looked healthy and was fine. Finally, she did look in her mouth and said she needed her teeth cleaned. It was very obvious to anyone her teeth did need cleaning. When checking out, they suggested we give both our dogs, Simperica. I declined and stated, I would never give my dogs Simperica.

I would not recommend Baytown Animal Hospital based on the experience my mother-in-law had with her…read moredog. She brought her dog in on a Saturday because it was vomiting, had blood in the vomit, and was showing signs of a serious abdominal problem. During the examination, the veterinarian was able to feel what appeared to be an intestinal blockage. Instead of immediately explaining that the dog would likely need emergency care at a 24-hour hospital, they recommended additional testing. After more than $1,200 in diagnostics, they confirmed exactly what they already suspected--an intestinal obstruction. Only then were we told they could not treat the dog because they are not a 24-hour emergency hospital and that we would need to find another emergency veterinarian. By this point, it was already Saturday afternoon, and we had lost valuable time trying to locate a hospital that was still open and capable of performing emergency surgery. What made this even more frustrating was the bill. One of the charges was more than $200 for an outside radiology interpretation of the X-rays. Since the primary concern was identifying an intestinal blockage--which the veterinarian had already suspected during the physical exam--we questioned whether that additional expense was necessary. We asked that charge to be removed. In the end, we left with a very sick dog, a bill totaling $1,261.51, and the responsibility of starting over at another emergency hospital. Had they been upfront from the beginning about their inability to provide the level of care the dog would likely need, we could have gone directly to a 24-hour emergency facility and potentially saved valuable time. To make matters worse, when I called to ask why we weren't informed earlier that they could not provide definitive treatment, I was placed on hold for several minutes before the call was disconnected. My wife ultimately had to call back and pay the bill. My issue is not that veterinary medicine is expensive. Emergency diagnostics and treatment cost money, and I understand that. My issue is the lack of transparency. When a veterinarian believes a pet has a surgical emergency that they cannot treat, the owner should be told so they can make an informed decision about whether to proceed with diagnostics there or go directly to a facility that can provide definitive care. Unfortunately, our experience left us feeling that collecting diagnostic fees took priority over helping us get our dog to the right place as quickly as possible. Because of that, I cannot recommend Baytown Animal Hospital.
