We hired Dayla to install glass tile, and she did an outstanding job. She is highly knowledgeable about the nuances of working with glass tile, which requires a different approach than other styles, and her expertise really showed. The cuts were clean, the alignment was perfect, and the overall finish looks amazing. Beyond her skill, Dayla was a pleasure to have around. She has a great vibe and outlook, making the whole process enjoyable. She was dialed in and focused, yet also quick and organized, keeping the workspace clean and efficient. She truly exceeded my expectations, and in a place where it's hard to find skilled and punctual trades, she blew me away with the quality of her work and the final product. If you need a top-notch tile installer, I highly recommend Dayla-- she is great value and you won't be disappointed! read more

Dayla was awesome. Definitely knows the trade. Gave us an estimate for hotter much tile to buy after about 5 minutes of measurements and was spot on. Did the job quickly and left the workspace looking better than when they got there. I can recommend Dayla without hesitation. read more

I would give Soul Dayla 6 stars if I could. Her excellent work aside (see pictures), she is overall just so great to work with. I basically told her what I roughly had in mind (river rock floor and a different color marble for my bench) and she; - helped me come up with design ideas - suggested a great store / warehouse (Best Tile, SF) to pick out great options - met me there to help get samples so I can try things out and live with them before making my decision - went to the store next day to pick my selections up so I didn't have to leave work - did it all within 3 days! I will be working with her again and already referring my friends. read more

Hired Dayla Soul for a tile work. It was a two bathroom project. (1) The first time I hired her, she backed out saying she secured a larger project. I had to try to find another contractor. (2) I accidentally contact her again a couple weeks later while still searching and suddenly she was available. She inspected the work and said designing and installing the new shower pan in the upstairs bath would result in the job not complying with city requirements. She did a great job tiling the other bathroom and was helpful in finding the tile. She even hauled it from Best Tile. I was able to hire another contractor who said making a shower pan could be done within regulations. They did a great job with the shower pan and it complies with city requirements. I lost time time and money looking for a ready made pan before finding the contractor who could do the work needed. (3) I asked Dayla Soul twice to send me a copy of her insurance. The second time and after she completed the downstairs bathroom, she indicated that she doesn't care to spend $$ on insurance. While a lot of small contractors do not have insurance, it is risky for the buyer. If there is a problem due to their work in getting a permit cleared or structural damage, it will be difficult to get refunded from someone who can't afford insurance. It was the change in her demeanor when I asked a second time that left an impression on me. It felt as though she was indignant about my asking for an insurance certificate which she knew that I needed for the condo HOA. read more

This review is looooong overdue for the amazing work done by Dayla Soul. Our house was built in 1956 and has remained virtually untouched (thankfully!) by the previous owners - but when we decided to add a room and bathroom downstairs, we were nervous about how the new space would flow with the old. I spoke to many different contractors who all wanted to create a "modern" space, and wouldn't listen to my concerns about wanting to match the original tile bathroom upstairs and keep the charm. Soul was eager to help me create a bathroom that I loved and that would look like it belonged in our home. Soul helped me to find and pick the right materials and did an amazing job executing an installation that has that old charm feel, with some touches of modern. I could not be more thrilled with the way this bathroom turned out. I'd also like to note my appreciate for the communication and relationship that Soul and I built throughout the process. Being a female, I've had issues in the past with other contractors either not listening to my thoughts or discounting my opinions, but this absolutely did not happen with here. Soul listened to my every thought and made the space come alive! I could not have asked for a better all-around experience. Thank you Soul! read more

Dayla Soul Tile transformed our front cement outdoor patio (very tired) and was very professional and skilled at laying down a tile I had selected that had a specific way it needed to be applied in order to keep the pattern consistent. Dayla Soul thought though all the variable and all decisions were great. A great experience working with Dayla Soul Tile. The tile was Mutina Azulej from stonesource.com read more

Unprofessional quality of work/results. Soul retiled our kitchen roughly a year ago. I've attached photos so you can judge whether you would want this tile job. We've sat with it for a year and decided we will probably need to redo the job. I really can't understand what happened because there are positive reviews and much better looking photos on yelp. Soul was nice while she was on-site, but when we asked if she could fix any of these problems she wasn't willing to make it right. The problems: 1. The tile isn't straight or well aligned. We used Health Ceramic tiles that are hand cut. Before beginning, she mentioned she had worked with them before. She didn't sort them for size, and we had bought an extra 25% tile so the oddly sized pieces could be left out. At the end, she said the result is what you should expect with heath tile. I don't think anyone would buy Health tiles if the results looked like this. 2. The grout thickness varies all over the wall. Even along a vertical line the grout thickness changes from thick to thin. Spacers were used and even with varying sized tiles the grout thickness should be uniform. Not sure how this happened. Also, some of the tiles are slightly rotated which makes the grout thickness vary even across a single tile! 3. The edges have extremely small pieces ( 1/2"-1", roughly 1/10th of a full piece) that shouldn't be there. The tile should have started from the corners and ended on a full piece. This was easily possible in our kitchen. We weren't asked about whether these small tiles would be OK and when we pointed it out she said it was too late and we'd have to rehire her to get it fixed. 4. Tiles stick out of the wall (different depths), so the wall isn't flat and has a wavy appearance. 5. During the removal of our old tile, the demo crew chipped our granite backsplash in a number of places (~20) as they used a crowbar to pry against the backsplash and tile. The chips are mostly small with a few larger ones. 6. None of the drywall around the edges was patched for us or sanded down smooth. This left us with a half finished job. 7. In one place, the tile and edge material overhung the edge of the drywall, leaving an unsightly view from the other side. Some quick-dry mud was slapped over it and left for us to sand and paint. The overhang was pretty large, so even after adding the mud, it still looks like a mistake. 8. The tile overlapped our cabinets, which didn't make sense to us (the previous tile didn't go above the cabinet line). When we asked if they could be removed, we were told it was too late. I think because she'd have to redo the schluter. read more

Absolutely fantastic experience doing a new bathroom floor, tub surround, and kitchen backsplashes in my SF rental apartment. I live in LA so the whole project was remote and Dayla went way above and beyond with videos and photos to make the whole process smooth. She even helped find details that needed attention and was flexible when our counter installation was delayed by 2 weeks. Can't say enough good things about the tile work, attention to detail, and incredibly friendly and chill communication. read more

Five stars! I reached out to Elemental Tile for a quote on a backsplash install project. The quote was fair and on the lower end for the 6+ quotes that I received, and I saw they had experience with Fireclay Tile which was our tile vendor. I called when the tile arrived and they were able to install later that week. They installed in one day and came to grout the following morning, and left my kitchen and bathroom clean. My kitchen looks wonderful and I'm really happy with the job they did. read more

There was not a single part of our tiling experience with Dayla Soul that wasn't perfect. From scheduling to execution to cleanup, everything was professional, trustworthy, and fast. We had already chosen and purchased our tile, but they had expert insight to help us select a grout that was the best option; not just for our need as a kitchen backsplash, but also for our aesthetic. It was a quick, two-day installation job for which Soul and her assistant were on time each morning. Expectations were set, and we knew exactly what would happen day-to-day. The job was cleaned up the first evening in such a way that we weren't impacted overnight, AND that Soul and team could hit the ground running the next morning. They worked effortlessly around the wiring locations for our under-cabinet lights (which were not installed yet). We were given clear instructions on how to care for the job for the first 24 hours. Soul and her assistant were kind to our pets and listened to great music while they worked : ) I have recommended Dayla Soul already, and will continue to recommend them, not only to friends who might have a tiling need, but to tradespeople friends who might want to work with a reliable tiling contractor on other jobs. We were happy to support a small, SF, woman-owned business. Soul, Thank You!! read more

Dayla Soul did amazing tile work at my home - over 10 years ago. when an area of the tile disintegrated where we had soap dishes etc., Dayla herself came with a helper, repaired the area and DID NOT CHARGE ME - even though she did the work over ten years ago. In addition, she was on time, efficient, cleaned the bathroom after her work, was amazing at communication, and did not charge me, even though the issue was not because of how her work. Not only was Dayla prompt and careful, she went out and bought matching tiles with charing me for those. If i could give Dayla Soul a 10 star review I would do that. You can see the tile work on her website - we have the white with blue/green waves etc. I had shown her a picture of what I wanted and she reproduced it PERFECTLY. I could not recommend Dayla more highly. read more

Today, it is difficult to hire competent, communicative and thorough people to work in any capacity at any price. In my kitchen remodel I have encountered posers, fools and gougers galore. Soul was commissioned for a kitchen tile job, and not merely a backsplash. Soul was everything we had hoped for without any of the complications. She kept us well informed as the job progressed and asked questions to insure our satisfaction. The job was well done, she was always punctual, friendly, and cleaned up as she progressed. It became clear early on in the project that she was a perfectionist. Thank you for your commitment to professionalism, very rare in the bay area. read more

I wanted to upgrade my wet bar backsplash to match my kitchen. I thought about DIY'ing myself, but after a failed attempt with a tile cutter I reached out to Dayla via Yelp. She was super responsive with a quote and (because it was a small project & I already had the tile) her team was able to come do the work in less than a week. While onsite everyone was so nice. Top notch service and communication! The work was completed quickly and came out beautifully. I couldn't be happier with the experience and results. =) read more

Dayla Soul Tile Installation - Before (top) and After (bottom)! - Tiling Near Me

Dayla Soul was a pleasure to work with and we couldn't be happier with the job she did on our kitchen tile backsplash. Our tile vendor Heath Ceramics advised only working with a contractor who has installed Heath before due to the complexities of installing handmade tile, and we were thrilled to see, in addition to all the raving reviews, some photos of beautiful installations she had done with Heath tile here on Yelp. Soul was warm, friendly, fast, and professional -- and we are incredibly happy with the installation! What an easy, pleasant process from start to finish. We will hire Soul again to re-tile our fireplace very soon and we highly recommend her for any tile job you may need! read more

If you are thinking of using this company I guarantee you'll be happy. Soul worked with us to choose the best grout color for our tile. Not only that, the grout they use doesn't need to be sealed! She is also a Fireclay tile installer, so she really knows everything about Fireclay tile (in case that's what you're installing). She laid out the layout of the tile for us in 2 different ways so we could choose which we liked better before she installed. The end product has perfectly straight lines and cuts on the sides and is just beautiful in every way. Another bonus: the two of the workers (including Soul) finished the project in about 3-4 hours, including grout. Seriously, hire this company. read more

Soul was a true life saver for us! We were in the middle of a remodeling process and unfortunately had some poor tiling work done. They were professional, courteous and talented. Soul's positive vibe would fill our house during a stressful remodel. She explained the process as she went and told us what was next. The crew was on time and worked hard, long days to get it done for us in a timely manner. We highly recommend Soul and her crew! read more

Wow. Dayla does great work for a competitive price AND is a pleasure to work with. After reading her yelp reviews and checking out her website, we had her over to look at our odd entryway that needed tiling. It was clear from the get-go that she has a great eye for what will look best, and she was up for the challenges of the space (we have a couple of curved walls, for one thing, and wanted to create baseboards out of the limestone we'd already purchased). Plus, she was so professional and conscientious, I almost forgot what it's usually like having contractors in your place (and I haven't even had any real nightmare experiences, but Dayla was just awesome on that front). Now every time I walk in the front door I'm so glad we hired Dayla. The floor is gorgeous. read more

We got a few bids for tiling our back deck from folks we found off craigslist, and Dayla was by far the easiest & most knowledgable person we communicated with. The prices we were quoted for the job were all pretty much the same, so we chose Dayla because she was extremely nice and down to earth unlike some of the other contractors who didn't say much or provided vague information. I was pretty clueless about tile so I had a lot of questions--what type is best for outdoors? Where should we get it? what size? how much? Dayla answered them all, giving us lots of options and even suggesting the best tile stores to shop at for good prices. This was important, because we weren't getting any good feedback or advice from the other contractors we spoke to. She did an amazing job, from start to finish. She helped us out a lot by picking up our huge order of tile from the store in Berkeley (Import Tile) for a reasonable fee. We would have had to rent a truck to do this ourselves. The result is a deck that looks 100 times better than it did before the tile was set. Overall a pleasant contractor experienceg--fair, precise, neat, and professional. read more

Dayla Soul has a creative eye, and is a true craftsman. You'd be in great hands working with her.

Dayla just completed installing subway tiles for my kitchen and I'm very happy with her work. You can tell that she really takes pride in her work. She was easy to work with and very responsive. Dayla has always be on time and punctual with her work. She completed the works on time on remodeling of my kitchen and bathroom. When I have extra work to do the tile on fireplace, she politely mentioned that she'll be back next week because she has already committed to another work. Hmmmm..As long as you don't want any of the tile cuts to show (meaning you are going to hide them all under floor boards and transitions), if you don't care about precision in general, if you are willing to deal with someone whose main approach to customer service is to avoid taking any responsibility for her work - then Dayla will work for you. We were also left with an obvious stain on our granite kitchen counter where her materials were set up with no drop cloth. Definitely a bummer. Would have chosen differently if I had another chance. read more

Not only does Dayla do amazing work, she is a pleasure to be around. After several failed attempts with other local tile installers (literally stood up for two appointments in the same week!), I discovered Dayla on Yelp. I called Dayla and she came to my home to view the project; then Dayla issued a professional, reasonable quote within a few days. The best thing about Dayla is she will actually call and email you back, arrive on time, be extremely professional and respectful while in your home and will do great work. Dayla demo-ed and tiled our fireplace in 6 inch slate and it looks gorgeous. One great thing about Dayla's business plan is she lets you purchase the tile yourself. Which means that you get to buy the tile at cost, vs. her buying the tile and marking it up. While it will mean you have to make a trip to the tile store, your overall project cost will be cheaper AND for a small price ($50), she'll pick up the tile for you at the store and haul it into your house. Again, she did a seriously amazing job and we are so happy with the final product. I highly, highly recommend Dayla if you are looking for a skilled and responsible tile installer. read more

I hired Dayla to tile my shower, tub surround, and bathroom floor. I used Heath tile, which isn't cheap, so I wanted someone who was top notch. Dayla really knows her stuff--not just from a technical standpoint, but from a creative one, too. I really appreciated and leaned on her design sense, which really put me at ease as I'd never done a tile project before. We had one hiccup on the project--the tile store screwed up and didn't order me enough glass mosaic tile. It would severely delay the project to reorder that tile and wait 3 weeks for it to arrive! Dayla went down to a couple tile places and found something that worked perfectly with the tile we had. Disaster averted! She works fast and with great attention to detail. The whole project took two weeks and now I have an amazing new bathroom. I'd highly recommend Dayla. Check out the photos under "Heath Tile Shower." read more
