11/9/24: A Wonderful Adventure! Our scheduled tour was for 1:30PM…read more The outside check-in began at 1:00 PM. Everything appeared to be well organized. At 1:30 PM, we began to board the boat. During our boat ride out to see the whales, we saw fisherman and many beautiful beachfront homes. Also, Melissa explained about the other sea life in the area. She was open to questions. It was finally close to 3 PM, before we saw approximately 7 whales. It's little tricky to photograph the whales, as the waters were choppy. (Plus, you don't want to lose your phone). Just a suggestion for upcoming visitors: Food is sold upon the boat. However, I would recommend bringing your own snacks. The pretzel we had was just fair. Also, plan on dressing in warm layers and bring gloves. It was cold! Overall, we had a spectacular time see these wonderful whales. Thanks to Bill and his team for an exhilarating and memorable adventure!

Bill and his Crew are the most professional, dedicated, and responsible tour company around. They are so confident in their mission and service that they even offer a free return trip if you do not see a whale; in fact I recently returned on a expedition (for free) and saw a playfully curious Humpback Whale. Thank you Jersey Shore Whale Watching Tours for being so awesome and for the amazing experience. FYI - they offer a 12 hour tour periodically for which I stand behind 1000%. We saw numerous fin whales, minke whales, and humpback whales

Which in itself would be nothing more than a slight absurdity, but for the fact that there is also no attendant present at the front desk or anywhere on the property. You need to go behind the "Staff Only" desk and search around for keys with your room number. Does the property assume liability for any lost/stolen items as a result of rooms not being locked? Doubtful. One of the "clean" towels set out in our room was very wet, as if it had been used just prior to our arrival. The bed had one of the most uncomfortable mattresses I have ever slept on in my life. The staff attending to the continental breakfast were setting out an assortment of bagels, toast, English muffins with their bare hands (which I regrettably noticed after having already eaten). The second star is ONLY because of the location, which admittedly is difficult to beat. The hospitality leaves much to be desired.

Short version: The NJ Transit Long Branch Train Station is adequate in function and pretty…read moreconvenient. Frequent transfer point, it sees a good amount of traffic. Most transfers going south are quick and smooth, not exactly the same going north. Waiting outside during winter can be a bit brisk as there is no completely enclosed area. It does the job. The Deets: Over the last few years, I've used this station in Long Branch as a NJ Transit train connection point going south to Asbury Park/Bay Head, as well as going back north to NYC or Newark airport. It sees a pretty good amount of action as the transfer point due to this fact. Transfers usually go smoothly going south when transferring at Long Branch, as many times the train continuing south is on the other track directly across from the train that just brought you into the station. However, connecting there going back up north towards NYC usually means waiting for one of trains to come up from the maintenance/storage yard adjacent to it...and many times it is not immediate, usually resulting in a wait. If it is in the winter, it's not fun to wait as there is no completely enclosed waiting area that I've seen. The waiting area I've experienced is covered but outside including one bench area having glass around it, not completely enclosed from the elements. There is a staffed ticket office and also ticket kiosks available, but I have used the NJ Transit phone app for tickets most of the time which is very convenient. It has a pretty sizable parking lot and I imagine the spots are for a cost for commuters going into the city. All in all, the Long Branch train facility is adequate and does the job needed.
