I arrived in Dublin to find my fresh pedicure was ruined by my sneaks during the flight. Luckily…read morethis beautiful spa is located in my hotel and they were more than accommodating (bonus: they didn't even charge me for polish change). Lisette and Lauren are fantastic. I'm mildly obsessed with their sticker foot coverings in lieu of paper temporary flip flops. Only caveat - for indoor use only. Can't wait to come back for hair and body services.

A luxury spa situated on Stephen's Green just a short walk from all the shops and restaurants…read moreDublin has to offer. Sounds like heaven right? Well, it's pretty close! The Shelbourne Spa is not actually in the hotel, but three doors down to the right. I've never noticed it before as it blends in as one if the big Victorian style houses but it's really easy to find. The spa is actually upstairs but you have full use of the leisure club facilities when using the spa and these are on the ground floor. In terms of decor, it is every bit as elegant as the hotel, with big chandeliers and plush furniture. When you check in you are brought to change into your robe and slippers before being led to the relaxation room which looks over Stephen's Green, which I loved. If I'm honest, I've been in better relaxation rooms, this one was very bright and probably would have been relaxing if it wasn't for a group of really loud talkers. This wasn't the staff's fault but tainted the experience a little for me. In terms of refreshments there was a selection of teas, some small nibbles and water. Also, after your treatment you get a tasting plate of fruit, juice and sorbet. I opted for the 'Tropical' which consisted of pineapple juice, kiwi and coconut sorbet and it was delicious. The highlight for me was the treatment though. I received a gift of the "Celebratory Spa Package" which consisted of an Elemis facial and a hot- stone back massage. Both of these were excellent, the therapist was lovely and spoke me through the products she used afterwards. The one criticism I would have would be that it's quite expensive at €129 for the package which only lasted an hour. I would have expected it to last a little longer at this price. With the excellent staff, treatments and location I would definitely go back, but I think I'd be waiting for a special occasion!

Having a woman dig her elbow deep into your back and moving it like a glacier till it reaches your…read moreshoulder blades and then pausing to pummel it deeper may turn some people on but it brings me to tears. I hasten to add not tears of ecstasy. It's an odd relationship. You lie there with your head poking out through the hole of the massage table in your disposable knickers, hoping that you didn't miss a patch shaving your legs. But all that self consciousness evaporates when someone is digging their elbow in your back. "Just relax your leg." "I am." "Wow you are tense." Let me tell you feeling a popping sensation in your back is not hot. Having a masseuse take a focused battle to those muscles incites a range of emotions, such as you want her to win but you want her to stop too (she did ask me to speak up if the pressure was too much, so you do have control). "What popped?" "Oh that's just your muscles you have lots of knots. I am pushing them back were they should be." "Oh." "You are very tense." "I'm sorry." Why did I just apologise I asked myself. She looked at me with the same thought. "So yeah, you should do this more often." "OK." "Also you probably will be very sore tomorrow so get some anti-inflammatory cream." At this point you may be thinking, "Jez Annie you really sold this place to me and the massage." It was 20% bearable pain for me and the rest was very relaxing, also I opted for a deep tissue massage which as the name implies is not going to be sweetness and light. I also appear to be a very uptight person with an extraordinarily tense body. I have Woody Allen muscle tendencies. €60 for 1 hour. Usually it's €80 but they have loads of summer specials, just check out their website. P.S Thank you Edel N & Sharon C for liking my check in tip, your support carried me through the pain.

I made an appointment to get a 30min back massage in my lunch break the other day. My therapist was the lovely Laura who brought me to the relaxation area first and then offered me a robe. I told her I was on my break and needed to go back to the office so she tailored her usual routine to suit my schedule without compromising on time spent on my back. The massage itself was very good, good pressure and little talking - just the way I Iike it. The spa offers different deals depending on the weekday and they do run a loyalty scheme for returning clients. I will certainly be back soon and I will reserve the last star for when I tried one of their facials.

I've been at Thai Massage Dublin three times now and I'm definitely a much looser person. Looser in…read morethe good sense I hope. The first visit was the best for a few reasons. I had no appointment but they were able to fit me in. I opted for a 30 minute neck and back massage, as I'd been suffering from neck crick for a few weeks and this session really helped. The nice lady immediately found the problem areas without prompting. Also even though it was only for 30 minutes, it felt like longer. And it wasn't too painful. The next day I was definitely improved and the neck crick gone. An unexpected highlight was the hot towel. It was a wonderful touch. I've been back twice since for an hour massage each time to work on other knots in my back, however I don't think these were as good my first visit. I had the same lady for these two visits, who I don't think had the same level of experience as the first masseuse I got. There was a lot of back walking, which I think is a bit of a gimmick if I'm honest. And some of the regular hand massaging was a bit too painful at times, but I'm hoping this is the good pain! The interior is very well done, ideal for relaxation with soothing music and comfortable massage tables. Another highlight is they have electric blankets on their tables, so you won't get too cold. One useful thing to know is Tuesday is Ladies Day and Wednesday is Men's Day, when an hour massage is 40 EUR instead of 50 EUR for each day respectively. I'm still in two minds about going back again. It seems who you get here is random, but I'm not sure I could take more back walking. Let's wait and see.

The rooms are lovely, clean and warm, with heated tables and calm music and the massage therapists are friendly and answered all the questions I had. There was water and fruit on offer and a comfy couch to wait when I arrived early. They have a ladies day on Tuesday and gents on Wednesday where you can avail of a discount and they also offer a reduced rate if you book with your partner, however their rates are very good even at full price. The only minus I found was that you could hear what was happening in the reception area while in the massage room as it's a small place, but that was only a very, very minor downside and in my opinion not worthy a minus in the stars. I can't wait to go back frankly, just wish I could afford it more often!

If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Basically, you lie there in a beautifully lit, beautifully smelling room, listening to beautifully chilled sounds, while your therapist lightly lays their hands on various energy lines / chakras, clearing energy blockages and helping your energy to flow more freely. If you're not into this 'mumbo-jumbo', know this. It was a supremely relaxing experience. If you are looking to clear your mind, and walk away with a sense of complete calmness, this is something to try. I had a spring in my step and an absolutely clear, calm mind. I really couldn't recommend it highly enough. On the Dublin Holistic Centre; well it's just a little oasis in the city. Candles, smells, peaceful decor, a mind boggling array of holistic treatments as well as yoga and pilates, and really, really lovely staff. (I was drenched when I got there from cycling in the rain, so the receptionist gave me a pair of dry fisherman pants to wear while I was having my treatment, and to allow my clothes to dry before I put them back on. Can't say fairer than that!
