There are also a few side trails that climb up the mountain if you're looking for a bit more of a challenge (including dodging Joro spiders!). It was semi difficult hike just because we live in Florida and use to live in Illinois (AKA Flatland), but we did it. The easiest way to this is from the parking lot, walk to the left and walk down the stairs. Keep walking on the boardwalk and watch for holes in the boardwalk. When the boardwalk is done, keep walking and then you will come to trees, the trees have steps made from the trees, & carefully watch your step and go down. I actually scooted my butt down and then climbed the tree steps. It was not bad, just something I'm not accustomed to. You will see the water and rocks moving and it is just so beautiful. People walk through and sit in the water and take pics. Be careful when you walk through it can be slippery. We had water shoes. Water is so refreshing. We actually walked the long way, which is walking to the right of the parking lot to the start of the boardwalk. We didn't want to walk down the stairs bc they looked pretty steep. It really is amazing. I'd say you will be here about an hour or two. Parking is free and there are a bunch of signs you need a fishing license. Which we don't have. We just parked And walked!

There are restrooms right next to the visitor center. There are two playgrounds on the other side of the visitor center with loads of picnic tables to sit at! Parks are in full shade. The official archway for the trail is directly behind the visitor center so be sure to catch your picture there! The big stocked pond was nice! Loads of dead fish floating and garbage which wasn't the best but not overwhelmingly horrible just could use some clean up. The trail leading up to the base of the falls is steep but well paved and maintained with a couple of seating areas along the way to catch your breath. We somewhat cheated and skipped the steps after we saw the base we turned around, drove up the street across from the visitor center and stopped midway up the falls to see another view half way up the falls on a bridge (check in the woods when you walk to this bridge there is a truck stuck in the woods and a tree is literally growing around it!) then we got back in the car and drove to the top! We may have skipped the stairs but we felt we truly got to enjoy the experience with the 3 little ones 5 and under haha. The top most viewing platform, not the bridge over top, was closed for construction when we went mid April. The lodge at the stop is strikingly beautiful!

A newer park that is well maintained has a large playground, restrooms, paved walking/jogging path, 2 decks that overlook the river, and an entry point into the river that includes a hookup to lower your kayak or canoe for easy navigation into the water. There is a hydration station with 4 different uses. One for refilling water bottles, a second fountain for children, a third for pets, and a forth one, you could wash your boots off or your dog if they got dirty in the Etowah River! The county really thought of everything when they built this park. Covered pavilions that are free to use anytime but if you want to secure a pavilion for a party, there is a small fee. It's easy to a reserve a pavilion online through the Forsyth park website. Mature trees, benches to stop and rest and best of all history. There are information boards that give history of the local Indian population and how the area developed over the years. Forsyth County truly has some of the best parks in GA!

Loads of sights to see and delicious buffet style foods. This was our first time we enjoyed this location and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a get away or just a day date. This state park is ideal for trail walking. Pet walks. And making the trek to the top of the falls. Did I make that hike? Hell no. I'm not crazy. (But many do make the ascent). But you can drive to lookout points in the midpoint and top of the falls. At the base, the visitors center has a "birds of prey" view program and I can't give it enough praise. Barn owls, screech owls, great horned owls, and baard owl. Toss in a few hawks and you learn a ton of info about the birds. At the top of the falls is a resort and restaurant where we had lunch. No menu, just hit the buffet. A decent salad selection. Then move on to soups, Mac & cheese, greens, pulled pork, fried fish & hush puppies. For desert choose from lemon meringue, chocolate cream and pumpkin pie. The food was good. Service, admittedly on New Years Day, was spotty. Too few people working led to short delays in restocking the buffet and servers bringing beverages. None of which diminished an enjoyable meal. If you or your family enjoy the great outdoors, this state park should be on your "must visit" list.

The place appeared well-organized and inviting, so we waited for about ten minutes. Eventually, an employee arrived in a van, seemingly returning from a pick-up run. He asked how he could assist us, and I mentioned that we were interested in the 2-hour paddle--their most popular option--referencing the sign that clearly stated it was available anytime before 3 PM. We had arrived just after 2 PM. However, he informed us that they were closed and no longer offering that paddle for the day. I pointed out that both the sign and the website indicated that the last drop-in time was 3 PM. He acknowledged this but explained that since it was towards the end of the season and business was slow, they had decided to close early to avoid losing money. It would be helpful if the website and signage were updated to reflect these changes, or at the very least, if the information was honored. We had planned this activity for our afternoon during our short stay in North Georgia, and it was disappointing to find it unavailable despite the posted information.
