My cousin recently had her wedding here, and the building is beautiful outside and inside. You walk in to a big staircase leading upstairs into one of the rooms where the ceremony takes place. All the rooms available for the ceremony to take place are grand, and the experience is equivalent to having your wedding in a church, I'd say. A really sweet place to seal your vows.

As well as being able to register your marriage, you can also get married here. If you're having a small wedding with less than 50 people attending the ceremony, its dirt cheap to get married here - only just over a 100 quid which includes the notice fee. Hiring one of the larger room costs a bit more. I ended up getting married in a church in Somerset but if I had decided to married in Bristol and hadn't suddenly had 200 guests to invite, this would have been a serious contender, especially with the rummer nearby to give you the dutch courage so you dont do a runner on the big day ;-)

Goodness knows how many times I've used this section of road and I still run the risk of getting it…read morewrong. From the air it looks like a mini spaghetti junction in Birmingham (but obviously surrounded by much more green space). It could be very complicated indeed but once you've cracked it, it is as straightforward as it can be. It is basically where the M4 from London meets the small M32 into Bristol City Centre and the mid point of the M5 from the Midlands to Devon. Unsurprisingly it can get very congested and hardly a weekend goes by when there isn't an overturned caravan causing major delays but the Highways Agency and Avon and Somerset traffic police are on it and are trialling all sorts of traffic calming measures, including allowing motorists to use the hard shoulder as a fourth lane during certain busy periods. I fear this may confuse things even further.

Ok adding this from a jurer's perspective only - honest! Perpare yourself for a lot of waiting…read morearound and boredom. The facilities aren't great. Two tvs, internet connection that's not free though. You're given a smartcard to purchase daily subsistence up to a value of £5.15 at the on site canteen which ain't cheap or particularly great, I found it cheaper to leave to eat at lunchtimes. Make sure you're aware of what you can claim back, especially parking, loss of earnings and child minding costs.

A nice looking court, outside which you will always (well in open hours anyway) see at least one of…read morethree groups. a) the scummy relatives of some scumbag who doesn't give a toss b) suited and booted solicitors and lawyers grabbing a much needed cigarette or c) a pack of journalists, both print and broadcast, covering some really high profile cases. I'm glad to say the latter is the capacity which has seen me at this court. Bristol Crown Court has seen some really decent cases in recent years - from that perverted female nursery teacher from Devon who abused the kids in her care to the wannabe Bristol terrorist. It's well worth checking out the Bristol Evening Post for these alone. If you want to go into the court, which you can do (it is a public court after all) you will have to walk through the security check point, which is just like the ones you get at airports. You will then have to navigate the elevators and the maze of court rooms. Here's hoping you are never there through necessity rather than choice! ;)
