Goodness knows how many times I've used this section of road and I still run the risk of getting it wrong. From the air it looks like a mini spaghetti junction in Birmingham (but obviously surrounded by much more green space). It could be very complicated indeed but once you've cracked it, it is as straightforward as it can be. It is basically where the M4 from London meets the small M32 into Bristol City Centre and the mid point of the M5 from the Midlands to Devon. Unsurprisingly it can get very congested and hardly a weekend goes by when there isn't an overturned caravan causing major delays but the Highways Agency and Avon and Somerset traffic police are on it and are trialling all sorts of traffic calming measures, including allowing motorists to use the hard shoulder as a fourth lane during certain busy periods.
