I came to her in an extreme state of physical and emotional distress and after spending $500 on a consultation she gave me zero information on a path forward but instead told me I needed to spend $24,000 upfront to get better. When I explained that wasn't something I could do she began negotiating like a used car salesman asking what amount I felt I could pay and her offer was $12,000 but said that it wouldn't fully address my needs. She then kept insisting upon speaking with my husband herself to convince him it was okay to spend that money and when I didn't answer her call the next morning she sent an email containing testimonial videos saying "I would love to help you feel like yourself again - and know that if you choose to, we can do it:) " As if it's simply a choice to afford $24k in one lump sum upfront without any plan or idea of how it will actually help me? She also insisted I didn't need therapy and my husband and I shouldn't go to couples therapy because it doesn't work and she would serve as my therapist - she is not a trained psychologist and treating people with mental health conditions under the premise she can fill that need is crazy. I have been to many naturopathic doctors over the years and I left this experience feeling even more stress.

Despite not having any noticeable symptoms, I had a very advanced case of heart disease which in the end required a quadruple bypass. My heart disease came to light because Dr. Portmore suggested, based on a history of risk factors, that I get a coronary calcium scan. My score was not good, and subsequent tests revealed significant plaque in my LAD as well as in other coronary arteries. We sometimes hear stories about a guy who seemed very healthy but dropped dead unexpectedly one day while working out in the gym. I was going to be that guy. So, thank you, Dr. Portmore, for your hunch about the possible heart disease. I always found Dr. Portmore to be very agreeable and willing to take time to discuss my medical concerns as much as I wanted. Every doctor has his or her own personality and manner. It depends on your own preferences whether you want someone that is a bit stern or someone that is more on the sweet side, haha. Dr. Portmore is more on the sweet side, I would say. I feel she knows her stuff and I would not hesitate to recommend choosing her as a primary care physician. I've since moved out of the area, but if I had not then Dr. Portmore would certainly still be my go-to physician.

I know this because I tend to ask a ton of questions, due to my naturally insatiable curiosity. She is very patient and takes the time to thoroughly and carefully explain procedures and medications you are taking. She also takes the time to get to know each patient so she can implement the proper treatment for each individual. 2. Morals -Honestly, Dr. Portmore is one of the very few doctors out there who really genuinely wants to do the right thing for her patients. She will never prescribe medication without careful and thoughtful review (I greatly respect her for this because it shows responsibility and accountability on her part). She will also tell you her honest and professional opinion about everything that you are going through. If she feels that you need a specialist, she will honestly let you know as well. 3. Wait time -I'm writing about this because I think people need to understand that not every visit is going to be on time. This is the case pretty much anywhere you go. Also, Dr. Portmore has many patients she cares for, and I'm actually glad that she spends quality time with us (instead of rushing through each patient). She is definitely not the type of person to "burn and churn" through her patients of the day. With that being said, I've only had to wait once or twice when she was behind schedule. This is not a common occurrence for me. Conclusion: she is a great and responsible doctor. I completely trust her. She is also just a beautiful human being. I took my 70+ year old mom (who had suddenly come down with a very rare and debilitating sun…read moreallergy - yeah, I had never heard of this either!) to Dr. Blessing Moore based on a recommendation from a friend. No other doctor had been able to help my mom for over a year. Dr. JBM solved it right away. She was extremely patient with the first visit, and asked all sorts of questions over a 45 minute session (!!) to understand everything. She recommended a recently approved treatment for urticaria that she thought would apply to my mom. She said it would take several months to take effect, and indeed after that time my mom was almost completely cured (slight occasional itchiness in her palm). I see from the other reviews there have been complaints about billing. The office was actually fantastic from a billing perspective. This particular treatment required an expensive injection once a month ($600/month, not covered by Medicare) which she now takes a few times per year. The office manager knew of two different grants that could apply. They did all the paperwork and have managed the grants for my mom for over two years. Net: she has had to pay very little out of pocket for this otherwise expensive treatment. I cannot recommend Dr. Blessing Moore any higher for allergy issues. Just remember to have some perspective - it is a small, very personal office, not a huge well oiled corporate machine like Sutter Health.

So, I still go to Dr. Cummings now…read more After spending 2 1/2 years trying to get Dr. Blessing-Moore to bill my insurance (and stop sending me bills for thousands of dollars that had not been run through insurance), I finally got the matter resolved. in fact, Dr. Blessing-Moore's office cut me a check for $200, money that she owed me from 2002. Flash forward to 2009--I got a flu shot in November, and now I am calling up in January to pay for it (because, at the time, they told me they'd bill me...but no bill.) At first, they had no record of having given it to me. Then they said they billed my insurance. Then it turns out they submitted the bill under the wrong name, so it's coming back. Of course, this is after the front desk receptionist told me that they don't bill insurance for flu shots--I had offered to pay on the spot to avoid any further Blessing-Moore billing hassles. We'll see how this goes--I hope to resolve it by May or so. Like I said, some things never change. I am grateful for the shot, but the billing issues remain. I am still pleased with my decision to move to Dr. Cummings.

I think I've caught here in only two mistakes over several years, and, unlike other shrinks she readily apologizes--making herself all the more human. Her consulting cottage is a little gem; she has less of an "attitude" than anyone I've ever met; and she is a cat's best friend (don't worry, she leaves them at her home). As I'm using a cane now, she accompanies me out to the parking lot, reminding me to go slow. What a serious (in the best sense) and delightful person!

She did challenge some assumptions and suggest many things I had not thought of (which was great!), but never in a way that felt like she didn't trust my own assessment of my feelings and my health. We landed on a plan that included medication and cognitive behavioral therapy (both of which I had positive outcomes with previously), as well as incorporating some new mindfulness practices that have been very helpful.
