A good place to get away from the tourists. Good service, decent food and wine and they usually have guest real ale. Free wireless as well

We ordered two small (175ml) glasses of the Shiraz/Cabernet and a bottle of fizzy water. (The bill was a bit steep at 19 quid, I thought). The wine could have done with being poured from a great height into the glass. It just needed opening up a little, but was a little metallic and not worth whatever we paid for it. The ambience was ok for a Tuesday night - about a third full of 'Wharf' workers (apparently there is no other wharf in London when you work near here...). There was only one other table occupied upstairs with us, which suited us fine as we were having the most interesting conversation that was probably best not overheard. The service was friendly, but a little too insistent. We took an hour to drink a glass of wine and bottle of water, and we were asked around seven times if we wanted any more wine or to order some food. That's a little under ten minutes between visits, which wasn't too bad, but since we could clearly see the waitress, it wasn't strictly necessary. The decor is pretty cold and nothing about this place is very inviting. Still, it's convenient for my friend's work and perfectly easy to be in - just don't expect stunning wine or for the other patrons to be all that interesting.

Get's busy on Thurs & Fri but still less rammed and slightly more civilized than most places in the wharf. Only potential downside is the numbers of BarCap senior management that always seem to crop-up here, but as long as you don't mind making sure you don't spill your beer on Bob & co it's all good!

The guys who run it are so knowledgeable about their wine - they talk about the vineyard owners that they have bought the wines from and their various practices. It's absolutely fascinating. The space itself is lovely - I like to sit on one of the sofas at the back. They have handy tables and powerpoints if you happen to take your laptop with you (as I have done a couple of times). The nibbles are very good too, I especially love the mackerel pate, although that may have been a one off special as they had made it about 40 minutes before I ate it!

On our first visit, when we weren't sure what we wanted to drink, we were given a taste (and description) of 4 reds. We enjoyed a glass of one of them, and could easily have polished off a bottle! We've tried 3 different wines there now, all of which have been excellent. They also do bar nibbles, mostly locally sourced, eg artisan bread, British cheeses. The beef stripes are a "must have". All the food is good and complements the wines well. All the staff we've come across to date have been excellent. A nice mixture of knowledgeable and personable. As noted, this is a shop as well as a bar. I think you can buy anything in the shop and they'll serve it in the bar, though we've just gone for those on the wine list so far. Overall, a good little place for a relaxing drink if you happen to be in Wapping.

A couple months ago, my…read moreboyfriend and i found a tapas bar in the area called La Tasca in the area and on our way there, he noticed this wine bar and thought it looked interesting. It also served tapas so we thought this could be a back up plan if we couldnt find la tasca. There werent very many people in there either, which made it less exciting for me. This time around, while we were looking for a place to eat in the area, we decided to finally check this place out. When the four of us entered on a Friday night at around 9pm, there was only one table that was occupied. The place was essentially empty - which is exactly why it surpassed my expectations. It's a wonder how this place can be so empty when the beer and wine selection is fantastic, while the food tasted much much better than it's tapas serving neighbour (La tasca was only 3 stars for me). The four of us ordered: - Pintxo de Manchego (£3.75): Toasted bread topped with manchego cheese and fresh tomato. - meh - Chorizo Picante (£5.50): Spanish chorizo, marinated in red wine and onions. - good - Patatas Bravas (£4.00): Potato chunks, served with alioli and a spicy tomato sauce. - GREAT - Pollo al Limon (£5.25) Chicken breast skewers, marinated in garlic and lemon. - good but a little dry - Champiñones al Ajillo (£4.75) Grilled mushrooms, marinated in garlic and parsley. - GREAT - Tortilla (£4.50) A timeless classic, the Spanish omelette made with potato and onion. - GREAT - Calamari (£5.50): Fresh Billingsgate calamari, coated in our home prepared beer batter then deep fried to a golden brown. - GREAT - Albondigas (£5.50): Home made beef meatballs in spicy tomato sauce. - GREAT While the food was a little on the luke warm side, it tasted REALLY DELICIOUS. The service was good, the food was good, the drinks were good. This place is definitely a hidden little gem. The only thing that marred the experience was the patrons, one of whom was laughing like a hyena the entire night (think Janice from Friends).

The menu is extensive so there is sure to be something everyone likes. When our food was taking longer than they thought it should to be prepared we were offered bread and olives on the house. The indoor part of the restaurant is very small but on a summers day the large outdoor area would be a fantastic place to enjoy the food, drinks and coffee on offer at Le Pont. However when inside it is very cozy and comfortable. I look forward to going back again.
