There's also a little exhibit for Clarkston's history, and there seems to be plenty of community events that happen here. After I got my computer/etc. settled (near the table that has a "Quiet Room" placard on it, which made me happy because I get distracted easily), I discovered the ladies who work at the information desk (just 20 feet from this area) are non-stop talkers! Now, I completely understand the need for an information area to ask questions, and talk daily tasks, etc., BUT they never stopped chatting. (I see a Seinfeld episode brewing here!) I tried to ignore it, turning my headphones up, but I continued to hear the one talking to customers on the phone (and not using her quiet voice). I waited and tried to talk to her nicely, but she did not get off the phone and I had to go. I did mention my dismay to one of the nice ladies and the book check-out desk. I cannot understand for the life of me, WHY they would put and INFORMATION desk, where people talk, just 20 feet from a quiet reading area????? This makes absolutely no sense to me, and it made me angry! And yes, I did check out the "quiet study rooms", but they were all taken. This library needs to move the information desk (which is right in the middle of the library) to another part of the Library, and also strategically put up some soft partitions, maybe. Just an idea. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent my frustrations.

There is a bathroom nearby with a changing station. The staff that day were friendly and very helpful in looking up books for me in the adult section. Thank you to the GDL for the children's center and convenience. I wish this location was closer to us.

I mentioned it to both of the staff members, and they just excused it away - "probably worked in a factory"......"hard of hearing".... without asking him to either lower his voice or continue his conversation outside. I did get a response from an email to a supervisor, however. Hopefully, that scenario won't happen again.

As we drove up I noticed a playground next to the library...how very convenient. You can take your young ones to play and afterwards they can check out the aquarium and explore all the fascinating reads that are inside the library. When I entered the building I was overcome with joy in seeing the huge, clear aquarium; so beautiful! There is a mighty, huge blue fish in the tank. I must admit, I felt bad for such a big fish being in a small tank but it sure was a wonder to admire him. There is a section up front where you can purchase used books and puzzles. Further to the right is the children's area full of fun items to explore. The main area is so pretty, I felt like I might have wandered into a ski lodge with the fireplace going and floor to ceiling windows displaying Michigan winter glory. There is a pretty courtyard for viewing. There is a resource room for using printers and computers. The employees were knowledgeable and friendly.

I have been going to this library for over 10 years, and I can't say I've ever had an issue that…read morewould make me not support them anymore. Being as I don't live in Oxford but had a student at the High School, I knew I wanted to belong to this library. For me, there is a limit on how much I can take out at one time, but that's ok. I still have full access to everything they provide. Back when my daughter was in school, she participated in a lot of the young adult things they had going on, even volunteered during the summer to help with programs. I've always thought the crafts idea was great-they have them for all ages and in more recent years, my step-son has been enjoying the crafts. He also has used the play area where they have puzzles, kid computers, puppets, books, etc. I haven't been able to get him to any fun events-but there seems to have been some good ones.... We mostly over the past year have been checking out books, movies, even music. Of course last year, 2020 was a tough year and everyone had to learn how to do business in a new way, updated ways, or completely different. But libraries seem to have held strong and I certainly appreciate them! They have a summer reading program I try to be a part of where you can win prizes. I've been able to set goals for myself with this as a tool to get some reading done! I THINK they may have a winter program-but have to check on that one.... This year I've been taking advantage of the adult section of the library-it's huge! Lots of books, new book section easy to find, an area with computers-some nooks of quiet spots where you can bring your own computer and work quietly. Lots of sitting areas, some by the big fireplace that gets lit in the afternoons during winter. And-huge windows along the back looking out over the trail & new playground Oxford put up this summer. I have enjoyed spending hours here this fall as I have 2 people working remotely from home and it's a nice break for me. I can get on my computer in silence or read a book! Last thing I want to mention is you must wear a mask when going inside. They do have signs up for that. If you don't have one, they usually have some right when you walk in.

While in the process of packing and moving, the kids and I took a break from visiting our library. I didn't want to borrow material and then possibly loose items during the move. The Graubner Library is located just north of 30 Mile Rd, on Van Dyke and was the closest to our new home. On our 1st visit I was throughly impressed. Not only with the size and amenities available at this public library but with the staff, that was more than welcoming, friendly and helpful. They signed me and 3 of my children up for our own library cards. My kids got a kick out of having their own cards, as this was a first for them. Since moving to our new home we have been to this library a half a dozen times, in just 8 weeks. We have borrowed approximately 30 items, including books, magazines and DVDs. Can you tell we really love the library! This library, as with all other libraries I've been to gets 5 Stars from me. How can they not!? This is a FREE service and resource center available to EVERYONE!! Kids and adults should really take advantage and make use of your public library. People "read" too much on their phones/devices. I've been saying, for years, books will soon be extinct, and then what!?! That would be a sad day, to not have anymore documented text/reading material. It will be a hard sought after thing like the Bible in the Book of Eli. (Haven't seen it- go to the library and borrow it! Fantastic movie with Denzel Washington) Pick up a book. Turn real pages. Read to your kids and elders. Read for your own knowledge and take yourself on an adventure of the imagination. Borrow a book on a hobby you want to start or something you want to learn to do. Support your local library and tell the librarians Thank You for all they do! Side note, this library has an amazing kids section, offers MANY free clubs, events, activities for both kids and adults. It also has tons of PC for your use. DVD rentals are FREE and don't have late charges. There is a 24 hour drop box for returns. Oh, and in case you're forgotten what a library is- cuz you haven't stepped foot into one since grade school----" a library is a collection of materials, books or media that are easily accessible for use and not just for display purposes. It is responsible for housing updated information in order to meet the user's needs on a daily basis. A library provides physical (hard copies documents) or digital access (soft copies) materials, and may be a physical location or a virtual space, or both. Great for any history buff…read more Tours through this beautiful historic home in Flint are always a treat. Walking through Whaley House is like taking a step back in time. It's beautiful and contains so many lovely object d' art and grand furnishings from years ago that you feel moved by the way the house and its rich history temporarily transport you to a bygone era when Flint was king of the burgeoning automotive and lumber industries and the docents do an excellent job of regaling patrons with old stories and little anecdotes about Whaley's history. It's like a walking, interactive history lesson! It's a real showcase of Flint's history. This stately, Gilded Age home, named after the prominent Whaley family, is filled with period furnishings and artifacts from its heyday. Walking tours are held regularly and the Christmas tour is one of the best things going on in Flint. It's a real treat for any lover of history or architecture. The home has been lovingly maintained throughout the years and has been open as a public museum for many years. I fondly remember going on walking tours of Whaley House when I was a child. Tours are reasonably priced, designed for a family-friendly budget. It's a great little museum for both kids and adults alike. Donations are always welcome as Whaley House is always undergoing some type of preservation to main the original structure.

This beautiful Gilded Age home showcases Flint's history in a family friendly way! I am a big…read morehistory buff and there is always something new to see because they rotate their exhibits. The house itself is full of artifacts and on tours the docents do an amazing job of bringing the past to life. The entire first floor of the home is handicap accessible (which is great since some historic houses aren't!) and it my group of fifteen people felt very well taken care of. The first time I went to the house was last fall during the House in Mourning program. It was very educational, and it was interesting to learn about how Victorian customs have carried over to today. The house even attracted actor William Ragsdale (from CSI, Justified, Desperate Housewives, Herman's Head) to visit when he was in Flint for the Zombie Walk. That was totally cool! I also visited last December and the house was decorated for Christmas. It's amazing to see this beautiful home full of twinkling lights - you feel just like you are in Dickens' A Christmas Carol! I brought my family to take our Christmas picture in front of the big tree in the front parlor and it was gorgeous. They even co-sponsor a vintage baseball team in the summer that plays by historical regulations with authentic uniforms. There truly is something for everyone! I plan to visit again on a Saturday for a tour and then have lunch downtown with my husband for a date. It's a great place to take a picture with your sweetie. :-)

If you've never visited the grounds of the C.S. Mott Estate, you probably should at some point in…read moreyour life. One of the most attractive and well-maintained properties in Genesee County, if not all of Flint, the estate is home to a rather lovely apple orchard and gorgeous gardens. If you're into horticulture/gardening on any level, then you will love the grounds. Occasionally, there are events hosted on-site for the public and I believe those are usually free. If you're any kind of Flint historian, you will note that a couple of scenes from Michael Moore's well-known documentary, Roger and Me, were shot on the estate. Here in Flint, we have the patronage and generosity of the Mott family to thank for many of our treasures in the cultural center and the family's donation of the Mott Estate is no exception. The C.S. Mott Estate is a definite must on any sightseeing tour around the city for tourists and is a cool place to visit from time to time for any local. It's definitely a bit of "local flavor" around these parts.

The Mott family has (and continues to) enriched the area so much through their generosity and dedication to the people of Flint. The estate and tours are just one example of how they do this. The tours of the house and garden are free (with reservations) during the warmer months. The docents are very friendly and knowledgeable and do their best to give visitors a feel for the family's charitable contributions to the area over the years. The house is warm and welcoming - the absolute opposite of the Biltmore Estate in almost every way. I, for one, view this as a great thing. Don't get me wrong, it's a gorgeous home but far more modest in scale and design than most of the other historic estates I have visited. You get a real sense of how the family lived - the guides will tell you during the tour that the home was designed for living rather than as a way to show off the family's wealth. The grounds are open to tour without reservations, but I strongly recommend making a reservation so that you get the most out of your time there. Very close to the Flint Art Institute (another local jewel).
