It is a great pleasure to write my recommendation for this shop:…read moreBurkcraft Furniture Restoration. My reclining chair needed a total new skin for an unusual style and shaped chair. Burkley had an amazing stock of samples of top-quality leather so my choice gave me a special finished job. The finished product is my pleasure to enjoy comfort. Quality and economy pricing are added bonuses. Thank you!

Burkley has decades of experience in furniture reupholstering and you can tell once you see his work. He loves to do an excellent job and takes pride in his craft. I had a nice Italian leather couch originally worth $4000. The seat cushions were in bad shape due to my two boys jumping and spilling things in addition to a dog who liked to sleep on it. I did not want to replace all the leather to save money but was worried it would look funny if the color of any new leather was not a close match. Burkley had literally tons of leather on hand to choose from. He had some Austrian leather that was as close as one could get to a perfect match. It was even more sturdy than the original Italian leather. In just a few days, the work was completed and I had the couch back. Burkley also redid the cushioning because it was also damaged. The couch is even more comfortable than when we bought it and looks excellent. The colors of the new and old leather are so close that if I would not have know that it had been reupholstered, I would not have been able to tell. When you see other furniture he works on in his shop, you can also see the craftsmanship of his work. I was truly worried before I found Burkcraft that I was going to get a mediocre job done given my budget but this was top notch work. I doubt you will find excellent work done for a fair and reasonable price or that you will find this craftsmanship done at any price in the GTA. Thanks Burkley.

We had two wingback chairs recovered by Doug at Toronto School of Upholstery. He did a fantastic…read morejob on them. The material we used was stripes, which is a bit more difficult since the stripes need to look consistent and to match on the top and bottom. We had the chairs back within a couple of weeks. The chairs were pricey, but consistent with other quotes we got. (if anything, a bit cheaper than other places) Also, most of the upholsterers we talked to required us to find our own material, whereas Doug has a decent selection on site. Overall we were very pleased.

Doug Green was the salesperson and he was very knowledgeable and helpful. The estimate was very reasonable compared to others that I contacted. The work took approximately 6 weeks which was also very reasonable. The upholstery work itself was well done and I was happy with the overall results. I have been using the furniture now for more than 2 years and am satisfied with the fabric quality. The estimate reflected exactly the final price which was a thrill since I have since had a very poor experience with another company for a smaller job that cost twice as much in the end. I have two cautions. The new fabric was attached to my sofa and armchair frames in such a manner that there are now gaps at the corners between the frame and fabric of the arms that were not present in the original furniture. Also, the wood trim on the living room furniture was reattached in a sloppy way - finishing nails showing and mitred corners not nicely aligned. The other concern I have is that ones possessions will not be unloaded from the delivery truck until a cheque for the full amount outstanding is handed over. Once I had my furniture back and in my house, I noticed the flaws in the workmanship. I didn't follow up since I felt the price was reasonable and no one else notices the gaps or nails or unmitred corners unless I point it out. However, I believe that this reflects the overall quality and attention to detail of the company. I don't think furniture should be held ransom until full payment is received. If the company cares about their reputation, they should make sure a customer is satisfied before demanding full payment.
