An absolute beauty of a farm- so much overwhelming amazing variety of trees, reasonably priced. The kids had a fantastic time running around looking for the perfect tree-they enjoyed the hidden photo op decor throughout, as well as the purple trees! It was easy to chop down our tree, carry it back, & bundle it up. Will be our go-to tree place from now on- we did love our old spot, where were selected from a pre-cut family lot, but now that the kids are older & can manage the joy of cut-it-yourself we will be on the hunt year after year! read more

The farm is beautiful and serene! Everyone working there was so friendly! We bought a couple gorgeous wreaths, and our friends who were with us found the perfect tree for their home. Huge selection of gorgeous trees at really great prices and a super helpful staff; the smell is intoxicating, the farm is magnificent, these trees are so carefully taken care of and beautiful and the least shedding I've ever had with any other tree; the only trimming needed was to fit into our tree stand! I came here on the Saturday right after Thanksgiving, hoping for the best while assuming the worst. When I arrived, there was a long stretch of cars down the road and lots of happy families piling trees onto the tops of them. Parking wasn't plentiful, but we managed to squeeze into a spot. Then we marched through the snowy mud, grabbed a saw, and off we went to the 'forest'. There were trees as far as the eye could see, and at least 8 different varieties and in various sizes. The process was quick and only slightly painful. Chopping the tree does involve getting very low to the ground, so I recommend bringing an old towel or blanket if you don't want to kneel in the snowy mud. It was also about 10 degrees colder and windier here than it was in DC, so dress warmly. You also might want gardening gloves that you don't mind getting sap on. The people who work here are very friendly and not at all overbearing sales people. They help you shake off your tree and wrap it in netting. Hot cider and a few christmas tchotchkes are sold in a nearby barnhouse. You can also buy wreaths or potted trees, too. I left with a huge blue spruce tree, a wreath, and a $10 potted dwarf pine tree (impulse buy, but it's so pretty). The trees are approximately $75-85, depending on the type and size you choose. Credit cards are accepted, even Amex. Feel free to bring your dogs and your children, just keep them all on a leash or else they will be turned into reindeer for Santa's sleigh. read more

We had an awesome experience at Davidson Tree Farms! For our first Christmas as a married couple we wanted a live tree. Davidson wasn't too far outside of the city and their prices looked fair. We arrived, borrowed one of their hacksaws, and tramped out to the fields. There were at least 8-10 different styles of trees. Our apartment has tall ceilings so we wandered around until we found one that looked perfect. They had helpers with a tractor and a wagon as well as handcarts. The prices are reasonable - $30-55 for 8.5 feet and under, $6 a foot after that. They shake the tree up for loose needles, bag it, and will drill a hole. They sell tree bags, tree stands, tree food, anything and everything you need to keep your tree healthy for the season. There is also a barn with cocoa, snacks, and hole made ornaments, all very well priced. The tree guys take credit cards but the snack barn is cash only. There are porta potties on site. All in all it made for a really wonderful memory- all down to the nice gentleman who helped tie our tree to re car. As long as we are in Maryland we will be getting our tree from Davidson Farms! read more

Had a huge selection of trees. I spent about an hour here looking for the perfect tree for my place. The staff was very kind and helpful. Even with me being the last person to stay past 5pm, have this massive 12 foot to be netted, and thrown ontop of my car, the associated were very helpful and polite. I saw a lot of 7 to 8 foot trees in perfect condition. Head down before it is too late! The tree in my picture is 12 feet. read more

We just bought our Christmas tree at Davidson on a very cold day. It was challenging to research which tree farm was the best bet so I decided to add this one to Yelp to make it easier for other folks. The scene is quite beautiful at Davidson, with lots of Christmas tree-covered land and no Walmarts to ruin the photo. They accept cash and credit cards, though a small snack area (serving some pretty popular cider) is cash only. It was our first time cutting our own tree and we were pretty surprised by how simple it is: You grab a cart thing and an axe and go chop down a tree, any tree. There are different prices for the six or seven varieties they had there ranging from $35-$42 or so. We got a Douglas Fir (or so we're told) for $38. They've got mega-huge trees as well as apartment-friendly ones, though they cost the same pretty much no matter how big they are. They shake your tree and put it into the plastic netting stuff for you. Some other farms offered petting zoos, full gift shops and snack bars, etc. But Davidson was pretty straightforward, though you can get a wreath and a cup of cider. I actually really liked the simplicity of it, and the drive was quite beautiful. Dogs on leashes are welcome and many families took the opportunity to bring Fido along. So maybe it would have been more convenient to go to Home Depot. But now I have a photo of my boyfriend posing with an axe over our supine tree, victorious. Which is kind of exactly what I wanted! I recommend Davidson, though of course it's my only tree farm experience and I obviously have no other point of comparison. P.S. The sign for Davidson is pretty small and we missed it the first time. For each of the past four years, we've visited a different cut-your-own tree farm on the weekend after Thanksgiving. Of these, Davidson certainly had the largest and most diverse selection of trees, including some varieties that are harder to find (e.g., concolor fir). The prices are comparable to other tree farms in the area. I suggest visiting early in the day if possible; it became noticeably more crowded as we were leaving, which could make parking difficult. read more

This was our first experience cutting down our own tree and it was wonderful!! We went on a Saturday to get our tree so the farm was packed but they had quite a bit of parking. You have to walk a bit but not bad overall. When you get there they have a barn with treats, apple cider, hot cocoa, etc. We got a bag of cookies and cider- both were pretty good. It was nice to snack while looking for your tree. They have a bunch of different types of trees to choose from. We loved this because we didn't know what we wanted so we were able to walk around and compare the different types. They had dollies to carry the trees but there were not enough for the amount of people so we ended up carrying our tree pretty far. The trees are beautiful and well maintained. They provide a saw for you to cut down your tree. Once you get your tree to the front the line moves pretty quickly to get your tree bagged and pay. We ended up buying one of their tree stands and got our tree drilled to use the stand. We got home and put the tree up. The stand would have been super easy and great except they drilled the hole at an angle so the tree went in and leaned drastically to the side. We ended up having to go find another tree stand. We contacted the owner and he ended up picking up the tree stand, giving us a wreath, and reimbursing us for the tree stand. That is a great way to do business but was definitely a hassle. read more
