I've read in numerous magazines that if there's anything you should be splurging on, it should be your haircut. The reasoning behind it is because, though hair grows back, a haircut is something you have to live with for at least a couple of months, and no one wants to live through a bad haircut. The logic behind it is pretty sound, but I've always felt a cringe go through my spine (and wallet) whenever I contemplated getting a haircut for more than P500. Though I'm pretty distrustful of those streetside salons that offer haircuts for P100, I'm also pretty distrustful of those salons that charge you P1,500 for haircuts. I mean, considering the amount of money you're spending for someone to hack at your scalp with variously sharp cutting tools, with that price I'd expect to come out of the salon with some freakin' awesome, red-carpet-ready movie star hair.
Thankfully, David's Salon exists. Honestly, not all David's Salons are the same, but the David's in Makati I've found to be exceptionally great. Especially the one in SM Makati, which is the one I visit regularly. The haircuts range from P250 - P450 depending on the stylists (though this is the price range for nearly all the branches, I believe) and never once have I exited the salon with a haircut I didn't like. All the staff members seem to know how to give a good massage, as you're given a wonderful scalp massage while you're being shampooed, and a relaxing shoulder massage while you wait. As long as you have an idea for the cut and style you want your hair to look like, the stylists will do their best to make sure you get the best haircut you can get, and so far I haven't been disappointed. David's is the perfect balance between a good haircut and a reasonable price, and I can foresee myself as a customer for as long as there's a David's I can go to. read more
