I was recently given a guitar for my birthday and hardly knew on end from the other. David's was recommended to me for lessons and it's a great place. David is laid back, personable, and has lots of good information. I am a big believer in supporting the local speciality shops, be they camera, fly fishing, etc and this is one of those spacial local places that deserves lots of support. the sessions are taught by super patient teachers (as a retired academic, I know the full value of that with beginners) and the the cost of a one hour lesson is very reasonable. read more

I got a Cordoba C1M 3/4 classical guitar for Christmas and it played great for me out of the box. After a month, though, it developed really bad fret buzz close to top of the neck. I brought it in to Guitar Loft and they were able to take care of it for 40$. Dave also noticed that my fret ends were quite sharp. I didn't care enough to have them softened, but when I picked up the guitar I found that Dave had taken care of it at no additional cost. I thought all of this would cost at least twice what it did, so needless to say I'm super happy with Dave and his team's service. I definitely will be going back again for my guitar needs! read more

Years ago I bought my first Ibanez SA260 "Strat- Substitute" guitar from Dave's Guitar loft! I wanted something that could sound like a Strat or a Les Paul without the high sticker price. The guitar the recommended was perfect and I played it for years and still have it and love it! These folks are great people and had some great group classes I participated in as well! I personally have just taken up the Acoustic Guitar, and I feel their staff does a great job at introducing someone to a new instrument and giving them the proper tools to learn how to play it correctly. Also from all of my research, they have the best pricing - not just on lessons but products as well for a locally run business. If you want to see some of their students preform, they have a free show at the Roadhouse in Webster Groves on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. When I decided I wanted to learn how to play the guitar, I spent a lot of time searching for guitar instructors. I signed up for classes at David's Guitar Loft because I read many positive online reviews. It was important for me that the instructors have a degree in music, and experience teaching beginners. I have taken guitar lessons from Adam at David's Guitar loft for about a year and a half. The entire staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I bought a guitar and supplies there, but no one ever pressures you to buy anything, which I like. If you're interested in buying anything, the staff is really nice- they let you play any instruments and answer your questions. They even put a guitar on hold for me so I could "sleep on it" when deciding if I wanted to buy it or not. The other thing I like is that when I first called about taking guitar lessons, they matched me up with Adam based on what kind of music I wanted to learn how to play. I brought my Fishman amplifier to Dave's because nobody else in town knew how to fix it, or, could get it fixed for me within two weeks. I use my amplifier quite a bit as I play professionally at several venues around town. The folks there told me they thought they could fix it, and that they could probably get it done in a few days. I was impressed with their honesty towards me and the amp problem, and, with the fact that they understood how important it was for me to get it repaired quickly. The very next day I got a call from their manager and he had the job done! Not only that, the cost for the repair was less than I had thought it would be. Just had 3 electric guitars refretted here with stainless steel frets, which should last the lifetime of the guitar and play well and sound great. Some of the local shops won't even install SS frets, leading me to come to David's Guitar Loft. They do the guitar work in-house, where others ship it to a another facilty, they did a great job and in a shorter amount of time than if they were sent out. I had pick-ups put in and two of them got a "kill switch" installed and it was still less time than shipping them to another shop! The wiring and soldering jobs are neat and professional, my 1984 Les Paul (and the other two) were treated with great care (no extra scatches or gouges that weren't already there), and the guys are knowledgeable and honest. Will definitely buy from them again and recommend them to any guitarist, beginner or pro. read more

If I don't give them four stars, it's for minor mistakes that forgive were we not in an area with lot of great guitar shops that set the bar pretty high for their customer service, knowledge of inventory, and technical skills. Why the one star missing? Their young tech there made an easily avoidable mistake with my setup that could've been avoided if they had one or two words down about what I wanted, so I'll definitely be tempted to try one of the several other techs in the city who charge the same amount but have decades more experience. If you aren't picky enough to ask for something specific to your playing preferences (if they're slightly atypical), it's doubtful you'd even have an issue. read more

These guys are the best- I came in tonight with my daughter's guitar which had a broken gear. One man got right to work trying to figure out the issue and he resolved it in minutes. When I went to pay, I realized I left my wallet at home. They couldn't have been nicer about it. I've taken lessons from David, the Owner of DGL, since 2008. He's took on the task of teaching an aging fellow with no guitar experience and has made me a better payer than i thought I'd be. All the guys at the Loft, Joel, Dave, Chuck, Jim and the rest are great. Guitars are their passion and it shows in the service. David and his staff are the best! I purchased a new acoustic guitar from DGL in 2013 and while under warranty it developed a structural problem. The manufacturer tried to stonewall us on replacing the guitar, but David went to bat for me and ultimately got the manufacturer to honor the warranty. This may not sound like a big deal, but I know that David took care of the issue personally and spent a lot of time on it. David's dedication to customer satisfaction is unquestionable.
