This provider failed to warn me about the risks of the medication she prescribed and did not…read moreproperly assess whether it was appropriate for me. I came in for a consultation, not seeking medication, yet she framed it as a simple 'yes/no' choice without giving me any real guidance or caution. She did not consider the potential for serious side effects, and as a result, I was thrown into a manic episode that completely disrupted my life. A responsible psychiatrist should not only be cautious themselves but also counsel their patients to be cautious. Instead, she passively presented the option without warning me of the risks, leading to unnecessary harm. If she had done her job properly, I would have never taken the medication (Lex) that caused this damage, or would have titrated it more slowly, or at least known to which symptoms to watch for. She also may have misdiagnosed bipolar 1 in a long depressive (but stable and fine) phase as MDD, failed to consider alternatives, and wasn't familiar or thoughtful about healthcare systems, sending me out without an established routine relationship with a psychiatrist or PCP who would do refills or check in with me. I was in mania for a year and then in dysphoric mania 6 months, not only what she did was irresponsible, but it was also unethical. Had I known she was a resident, perhaps I would have been more cautious and not followed her advice blindly.
