I have never been so disgusted or outraged in a restaurant before…read more If you want to eat a soggy mediocre burger, whilst being treated like s**t by the front of house staff, this is THE place for you! The Tunisian manager on duty during the evening promised us a table for 1 hour 15 minutes which seemed accommodating. The service staff were excellent, attentive and kind but the direction they received from their manager meant that despite the fact that we were only 30 minutes into our designated 75 minutes table time, he cancelled our second burger order without notifying us, and sent the waiting staff with the bill as soon as 55 minutes had gone by. The waiting staff who were attentive and kind were clearly embarrassed at having to convey the bill and the fact that our order had been terminated and one waitress was really lost for words. When I complained to the manager in question, he had nothing to say as he had enough customers sitting at tables, filling his pockets. He offered no apology, didn't try and suggest any other solution and simply expected us to swallow his insults and leave. More astoundingly, when we left the restaurant, he followed after us and very threateningly tried to physically harass my wife and I, grimacing and shouting "what's your problem?" It was clear what HIS problem was. Clearly aggrieved that everyone in his restaurant had witnessed our dissatisfaction, and how remarkably every waitress had come to side with us and against their manager, he wanted to prove something and in the street decided to try and accost my wife and I. We clearly re-articulated why we were dissatisfied but this didn't help him threatening us in the street with racial abuse (we are British) and Arabic swear words directed towards us. He claimed not to speak English when we entered the restaurant but managed some very choiceful words in mainly English but also German and Arabic when he wanted to insult us on the street in front of his institution. We had quite a crowd gather around us and in the end, my wife and I respectfully retired and left this manager to go and assault the next customer. Manni & Peet is the place for anyone who has no appetite for customer service, wants to eat food served by waitresses who are clearly downtrodden and badly treated, and finally wants to enrich an establishment who employs a manager who seeks to verbally and physically threaten customers if they don't go along with what he views as his "rules". Dine here at your peril. There are finer places to eat in Darmstadt and in any city in the world. Service should count for a lot in this world, and thankfully Google and other forums allow normal members of the public to have a say even in places where the manager is "the king"... his words, not mine! Long live the Tunisian Empire of Manni & Peet!!!

Jamy's is a go-to spot for me while I stay in Darmstadt. I came here for work and the burgers here…read moreare by far the best I've had in town. The indoor area is well designed and fun to go to and the location is great as it's walking distance from the Luisenplatz and located near lots of fun areas. THE AMBIANCE: Jamy's has both indoor and outdoor seating which are great for rainy or sunny days, respectively. The inside is well decorated and has nice lighting and tables. It's always clean and perfect for either your friends or family to sit together and share a great meal. THE BURGERS: The burgers are incredibly juicy with clearly fresh ingredients that pack a great bite in a perfectly portioned package. The buns taste freshly made and are well buttered and cripsy on the outside while being soft and fluffy on the inside. I've tried a number of their burgers now and by far my favorite is the Double Redhead, a double all-beef patty with roasted red peppers and some kind of spicy cream sauce. It isn't too spicy and was the perfect ratio of meat to buns with a good helping of cheese between each layer. On another occasion, I had the SmokeAttack which was spicier and larger. It was roughly four inches in diameter, with a three inch diameter patty - what I'm guessing all the other reviews claim is too small a patty for them! It had layers of bacon (costs extra), grilled onions, Monterey-jack cheese, and sesame seed bun. On this occasion, the bun was also well buttered but the inside was a little too soft for me so it felt like I was eating a bread roll sandwich rather than a burger. THE FRIES: The fries are probably Jamy's specialty. I had the Sour Bacon Fries which had a good dallop of sour cream with chives and bacon on top of garlic herb seasoned fries. You get a really large serving for less than four euros that are well cooked and crispy deliciousness! It's a bit heavy on the sour cream however and could do with less. Overall, Jamy's is a great spot to go for a hearty burger or some delicious fries. I'd avoid getting both though as it can be a bit too much food!
