I got an appt here for what I genuinely believed was going to be an 'out of pocket' nightmare. A double root canal, for those of you lucky enough to never have priced one, runs $2-2.5K, if the place is being reasonable. Most dentists are more than willing to do the procedure (even if not needed) and take your money, once you indicate a willingness to pay, and I certainly had. Instead of taking my $$$ and Palin'ing my mouth with the old "Drill, Baby, Drill"... Dr. Slobodinsky 'conservatively' (pun intended) recommended I wait a few days on antibiotic therapy and thought both sides could resolve without intervention...and they did!! I promised him on the spot I'd share this tale via a review. Sorry it took me a couple months. If you're looking for a nice, clean, down to earth, neighborhood dentist office who also won't rob you- this is your spot. Also worth noting: Another yelper mentioned an insurance mishap. I had a very different experience and have to give his staff kudos. I have a mostly nonexistent terrible dental plan, but his office staff painstakingly helped me though figuring out what, if any money the insurance would be willing to cover down the road and how to go about recovering it. His staff's patience on the phone the day prior to my appt, is how I ended up there in the first place. Cheers to them as well. read more

I started going to Fishtown Dentist based off great reviews in 2017. My first couple visits were great, they were all routine cleanings - nothing major. I thought the staff were nice and welcoming, The Dr. & Hygienist I saw were great...until I went in for my routine cleaning in 2020 and their bedside manor was completely off from what I previously experienced. All of the sudden I had "great teeth" to "if you do not have this major cleaning surgery done your teeth may fall out" The surgery seemed extreme to me and I was scared! Then they recommended I should come in for more than 2 cleanings a year to help. When I mentioned to them my insurance only covers 2 visits a year, they made me feel financially insecure since I would have to pay out of pocket, and it really seemed like they were mad at me because I may need extra help with my teeth? I ended up making the 3rd cleaning visit as I want to have healthy teeth...after the cleaning and checkup was over the Hygienist seemed annoyed that my teeth had improved and I might not need the surgery "right away." She legit did not seem like she wanted to help me in anyway and I really couldn't understand why as the first couple visits our rapport was just fine. After that visit, I decided I will pay my bill and will be looking for a new dentist. I got the bill in the mail, but it also mentioned my insurance was terminated - whoops, I forgot to update my dental insurance when my company switched over. I sent them an email right away and never got a response, and then I called and provided the new insurance over the phone for them to resubmit. 2 months later I still have not received an updated bill... I called today to check in and they never updated my insurance. Woof. This was just not a good fit and I would not recommend this practice to anyone. To me, it seemed like they were trying to get money from me then actually helping me, not to mention they were just flat out mean! I saw Dr. Slobodinsky has recently retired and they now have a new Dr. I'm not really interested in giving them a try as I thought the Hygienists was what really made me feel uncomfortable. read more

Without going into immense detail, I hope Dr. Slobodinsky has honed his empathetic skills and bedside manner. Two stars means "Meh. I've experienced better" and I have. Long story short, no matter how much work needs to be done, it is unprofessional to poke fun at a patient's set of teeth. read more

I've got terrible teeth. So terrible that I hadn't been to the dentist since I moved to Philly 5 years ago. I'd already had dozens of cavities and 3 root canals when I was 22. Anyway, I've been to see Slobodinsky twice recently, for a root canal and a crown. All in all, it was the best overall dentist experience I've had. I liked my childhood dentist, but Slobodinsky seems to work a lot faster. I was a little nervous about my recent work, and he did an excellent job keeping me calm and reassuring me that he would give me more Novocaine if I needed it. I am also very impressed by the scheduling stuff. Maybe all dentists have this now, I don't know. After countless negative experiences at my old dentist's office, I'm so relieved to say I've found a dentist I'll be using for years to come. The staff is inviting, Dr Slobodinsky is funny and empathetic, and the care you get here is great. I requested an appointment online over the weekend because of a toothache and they fit me in as early as possible on a Monday morning and were able to do the root canal right then and there. After dealing with sensitivity from a botched filling by another dentist, I'm finally able to drink cold water without wincing. It's the little things! read more

After my first experience at another Fishtown dentist, I didn't have super high expectations for this place, but I made an appointment anyway... and I'm SO GLAD I did! Dr. Slobodinsky's office is very clean and modern, and every single staff person I met was incredibly friendly and nice. I'll say right up front that the *actual dental care* my partner and I received at Dr. Slobodinsky's was excellent. I do, however, want to encourage you to check and double check with your insurance company before going here. In a misguided effort to support a local business that was within walking distance of our house, we called and asked if Dr. Slobodinsky's office took our insurance. Their answer was "yes." What they meant to say was "yes but we're out of network so be prepared for some pretty significant charges." Or, as you and I might put it, "no." While I take full responsibility for failing to do the additional legwork of checking with our insurance company ourselves (we have Guardian btw, one of the largest dental insurance companies in the country) I think it's rather unconscionable that a doctor's office would mislead customers in this way. So if you've done your homework and are 100% positive that Dr. Slobodinksy takes your insurance, I'd highly recommend him. But think twice before taking their word for it. :-( read more

My recent visit here changed the way that I feel about going to see the dentist for the better. I never write reviews, but this was truly the best experience that I have ever had a dentist's office (and trust me, I have had a lifetime of experience at a variety of dentists) so I thought it is worth commending. From the first, everyone at this office communicated scheduling times, costs, and other information to me with a great balance of professionalism and human kindness. They worked with my schedule to set up appointments, even going the extra mile to reach out to me when an appointment time opened sooner. It helped me feel like a valued patient, as well as helped with my schedule. As for Dr. Slobodinsky, I have never had a dentist communicate so well and courteously. He made sure from start to finish of my dental work that I was mentally and physically at ease and comfortable, checking on how I was doing throughout, making sure that I felt empowered to let him know if I needed anything. He really listened to what I was telling him about how my teeth were feeling, and he was super patient. This office is clean and comforting, full of nice folks who care about doing their job well, taking great care of patients, and again I have to say: it was the best experience I have ever had at a dentist office. Went here with my partner about a week ago as a walk in emergency. The one good thing I will say for them is they were nice and saw him even though we didn't have an appointment and it was in a timely manner. I will also add that he does not have insurance so I was assuming we would have to pay something and I assumed if it was major that we could do a payment plan or something. However the doctor saw him for like 15 minutes and my partner was told that he could die if he didn't do anything soon but that they couldn't help him because he couldn't pay for the procedure up front. They gave him 2 scripts. One of which was for ibuprofen, like I couldn't have gone to fucking CVS and picked some up for $10 instead of paying $144 for the absolutely nothing they did. Seems to me it's just about money, NOT actually helping people. read more

I feel I'm in great hands at Dr. Slobodinsky's office. He gives honest assessments of your dental health, practical treatment that accommodates both your physical and budgetary needs, and when he fixes a tooth it stays fixed. I had three wisdom teeth extractions early on in my tenure as a patient (though I've had more work since)... it was so smooth I didn't even need nitrous, just some Novocaine. And his dental hygienist Denise is seriously the gentlest I've ever had. Cleaning is usually torture for me; she makes it not just bearable but (almost) pleasurable. read more

If I could, I would most definitely give more stars. I can tell Dr. Slobodinsky takes a lot of pride in his work and promised the procedures wouldn't hurt. I was skeptical, but his promise was fulfilled and I had TONS of work done. Dr. Slobodinsky and his team were also the nicest people. Even the receptionist was extremely pleasant and those from Philly would know that is rare. I don't have a traditional name, so appreciated the fact Dr. S. and his staff took the time to pronounce my name correctly. I'm an educator and we do the same with our students. It's a simple gesture, but I believe it speaks volume of a person's character. He also took the time to talk through the procedures. If I could give them more stars, I would! First of all, everyone in the office was extremely nice. I've always hated getting my teeth cleaned because it was painful and unpleasant. Not the case here - best cleaning I've ever had. Then, it turned out that I needed root canal. Dr. S said it would be painless, but I didn't really believe him.
