I called and texted the office number because I was having trouble finding it according to the google directions -- if you're at the New Deal Cafe, it's the brick building next door, and their entrance is the NORTH green door on the lower level of the building. Once I was inside, I was immediately prompted to check in at the kiosks in the waiting room. It was an easy process with iPads, and they captured images of my drivers license and insurance card. There was NO WAIT, and as soon as I was finished checking in, I was brought into a patient room by Julia herself. Since it was my first appointment there, I supplied my medical history, list of medications, etc, and she took all my vitals. The room was a nice size, with holographic privacy screens on the window that made pretty prisms from entering sunlight. It was all very clean. Julia was easy to talk to, and listened to me well. I didn't feel judged or pressured, and she answered all of the questions that I had. I'm glad that I found her!

I was able to get an appointment as a new patient the same week. Everything was easy and NP Gabriel was easy to talk to and extremely thorough. I was able to have my bloodwork done there as well. I just went back, I was able to get a next day appointment after a visit to Patient First and am pleased to report the experience was great once again, I had a couple of different concerns and once again was listened to. I had also sent some reports thru email the day before and was happy that they were referenced so I can once again say fantastic and thorough service!

As I state in all my negative reviews, I always try to find something positive when I visit a new…read moreplace, and I only give a 1-2 star rating when NOTHING positive happens. In this case, there was one positive thing - the cream the doctor prescribed for my rash made it disappear in a week, Ok, but everything else was HORRIBLE! I found this doctor's office through my insurance coverage website and called and made an appointment for the next week. We walked in on the day of the appointment about 10 minutes early and there was a small waiting area that screamed "No one has thought about me since 1992!" The restroom was dirty, and the magazines on the table were wrinkled, old, and gross. The chair I sat in smelled bad, so much so that I kept smelling my armpits to make sure it wasn't me. I filled out a form that looked like it had been made on a typewriter and handed it to the receptionist, who took it, didn't say a word for ten minutes, and then informed me that I my copay was $25. I took out my credit card and she informed me that they only took cash. Well, my appointment was at 3:30, I had gotten there 10 minutes early, and now I had been there about 25 minutes and now I had to wait even longer while I got cash. I finally was seen by the doctor around 4:00, an older gentleman probably in his 70s, and I was surprised when I could not understand his English very well. I constantly had to ask him to repeat himself and focus twice as hard when he said something the second time. He knew English well, but I just couldn't hear the words. I mentioned I was from California and he started telling me a story about someone, and while I nodded and smiled and hoped he would finish, a spot of drool started forming on his lower lip, and it got bigger and bigger and then it dripped down onto his chin and he still didn't notice and kept talking. All of a sudden he seemed to notice and he slurped and wiped his chin with his hand and kept right on talking. SO that kind of grossed me out, but then he asked me to come to his office. Woah. Again, it looked like no one had touched it since 1992. the cabinets were all cluttered with stacks of dusty papers, along with the oldest versions of a boombox, fax machine, and typewriter I have ever seen. He wrote me a prescription and then my wife and I left quickly, already decided that we wouldn't go back. Another note, it took a committee of FIVE Pharmacists at Target AND a quick interview with me about my medical condition before they decided what the doctor's scribbles meant. I don't really want to tell my pharmacists "Hey oh yeah I have a rash." C'mon. I kind of feel bad for this office because I don't want to keep them from getting customers, but at the same time, I doubt 'change our ways' is in their vocabulary. Stay away if you want good service and anything close to modern.

When I walked into the office, it was as if I just exited a time machine. I thought I was back in the 1980's. Imagine a doctor's office during that era. Like then, there were no computers in sight, papers were stacked everywhere and a typewriter was in the back office. A TYPEWRITER! The doctor gave me two referrals. Here's the kicker, he gave it to me on a prescription pad which had to be double checked by his receptionist because in her words, "He gets it wrong sometimes." Needless to say, I won't be going back.

Dr. Maslen is hands down the best; can not recommend him higher. My wife and I both love him. My…read moredad was my PCP for years, but after he retired I struggled for years to find a new PCP... and stumbled on Dr. Maslen based on a recommendation on our community list serve. Making him our family doc was the best decision we ever made. He is INCREDIBLY approachable; you never feel rushed, he takes the time to answer all questions big and small -- and over all just seems to go the extra mile, and REALLY & TRULY CARE about his patients. PCPs/General practitioner family docs are a dying breed. To find a PCP that is a sole practitioner, not in a large medical group is EXTREMELY rare, if not basically extinct these days. It makes SUCH a HUGE difference to have a doc, where you are HIS patient rather than just another number to a random group practice. The gold ol' days of medicine are almost gone and it is just so amazing that Dr. Maslen is still there. All the pressures in medicine today push, if not force docs to sell their practices and join these large medical groups-- costs, insurance, etc are the culprit here. We are just so thankful to have a doctor that loves what he does and endures the incredible pressures to retain his independent sole practice. Idk.. I could keep rambling... but there are not enough words to convey how grateful my wife and I are for Dr. Maslen.

I believe I learned that he sets aside 2 appointments per week for new patients. I learned this bc I called so many times hoping for an opening. Not because it was urgent. But I wanted to make sure referrals were going to be in place, etc. No one cancels their appts. so when they say 3 months and "they'll call you if there's a cancellation...." don't hold your breath. But I'm very happy with my new PCP! He was comfortable with my diagnoses and complicated conditions and the treatment course I'm on so I actually am not going to all of those specialists appts. for now. He was so nice, easy to talk to and made me feel welcome.
