David is not only a great craftsman, but he is a very compassionate and kind human! My parents were incredibly stressed about a water leak that occurred at their historic Pacific Grove home while they were away. The leak did substantial damage to their kitchen hardwood floor. David was very busy with other jobs but took the effort to immediately go see them and took up the boards to start the process of drying the wood. He also wrote a letter and worked with them to fight their insurance claim. We wish we could give David Potter Flooring more than 5 stars. David and Ashley Potter work as a team. The floors in the livingroom and bedroom have been carpeted since long before we bought the place six years ago. We decided to pull up the carpet to see if the wood could be refinished. What a mess. On the recommendation of a highly rated floor refinisher who has moved out of the area, we contacted David. The imperfections included carpet tack holes, termite damage, pet urine stains, and carpet glue zigzags. After the initial sanding we knew that we'd picked the right people for this job. David replaced some of the boards, put in wood vents to replace the old metal vents, and gave us a choice of stains and finishes. We were blown away by the refinished look. The pictures give you an idea of the improvement but they hardly do it justice. The condition was worse and the final results even better. There were so many other little things that Ashley and David did that went beyond our expectations such as the wooden vents and putting pads on the bedframe's bare metal feet. Neither of these things were required, they just did them. Finally, time was of the essence and they got the job done a few days early! If you are going to have your wooden floors redone, get David Potter on the job. read more

Our initial consultation with David was very informative. He spent extra time explaining the process, evaluating our situation, offering suggestions etc. He was a super pro and got us a quote right away. The house we had him work on was a second home. David and his wife were extremely accommodating given our situation. They kept in constant communication with us the entire way. The final product is just beautiful and I have to say they worked a miracle on very old, heavily scratched and worn floors. They fixed old mismatched oak wood patches perfectly, the workmanship was very high all around and they cleaned up impeccably. Price was extremely reasonable as an extra bonus. Oh. My. God. They did the best job, better than we could have imagined. We have a 122 year old home that had the original redwood floors that had been at various times covered, carpeted, sanded and stained countless times. We ended up covering it with new oak which they stained with mono coat, an environmentally friendly product we feel great about. David and his crew did the most amazing job "rediscovering", repairing and refinishing the hardwood floors in our new home (built 1941). The living room had a red oak floor that had a very bad do-it-yourself dark (almost black) stain finish. There were bumps and ruts everywhere. I didn't think it could possibly turn out. There was also some strange piece of stained plywood inset by the air intake to the heater as well. Next, we suspected wood floors under the carpet in both of the bedrooms. Turns out in the master bedroom, there was red oak, but there was a huge strip in the middle missing as a wall had been there years ago. In the guest room, he found Doug Fir, but with linoleum glued to it. David's solution was to sand out the dark stain and refinish the living room and replace the plywood inset with red oak, weave the strip area in the living room and refinish the red oak, and completely replace the guest room floor with red oak. In addition, oak heat registers were inset, and transition ramps (between e.g. the bedroom and master bath) and base molding strips (where needed) were added. It was refinished natural color with a matte finish (I believe). I can't believe the result. Spectacular. Everything looks brand new and perfectly uniform, the transitions between rooms are absolutely perfect and unnoticeable. The detail is incredible. Everyday I look at them and think about how beautiful they are. I think the price we paid for the amazing result was very reasonable and well worth it. David is a true pro and artist, in addition to being very friendly and helpful - answering every question. In addition, this was a last minute job on our part and he juggled his schedule to help us meet our move-in dates and coordinate around the last minute painting we had done at the same time. We purchased a 1930s home in PG that had been restored to what might be called modern craftsman style. The cabinetry, including all the doors in the house, had a color of wood that made it difficult to find any prefabricated/prestained wood that wouldn't clash against the doors and cabinets, which is why we began to look for someone who could do a custom stain. We found David & Ashley through outstanding reviews on NextDoor and we were not disappointed. They respond timely. They know what they're doing -- so much so, I wouldn't really consider them installers, I'd consider them artisans. They're very good at mixing stains and finding great flooring options and their time estimates for wood delivery, as well as their work are very close to exact. As for their pricing, it is competitive with all of the other wood flooring places, however, the edge is their knowledge, experience, and great service. What's more, they're local and just really nice people. I can't say enough about our experience with them except that I wish there were more rooms in which we could install hard wood!
