David Potter is a craftsman. Our white oak floors were under carpet for years. They were scratched and stained and I didn't know if they could even be salvaged. I am amazed at the beauty David brought out of our floors. I was also surprised and pleased by the affordability of the process. read more

We had an amazing experience from start to finish. Ashley and David were so helpful and communicative throughout the process. They answered all my questions, were patient, and guided us with deciding the finish. They take pride in doing to right and we couldn't have been more happy with the finished product. David is not only a great craftsman, but he is a very compassionate and kind human! My parents were incredibly stressed about a water leak that occurred at their historic Pacific Grove home while they were away. The leak did substantial damage to their kitchen hardwood floor. David was very busy with other jobs but took the effort to immediately go see them and took up the boards to start the process of drying the wood. He also wrote a letter and worked with them to fight their insurance claim. We cannot thank David and Ashley enough for not only doing excellent work but also for being wonderful and so kind during a very stressful time. I highly recommend David Potter Flooring. read more

We wish we could give David Potter Flooring more than 5 stars. David and Ashley Potter work as a team. The floors in the livingroom and bedroom have been carpeted since long before we bought the place six years ago. We decided to pull up the carpet to see if the wood could be refinished. What a mess. On the recommendation of a highly rated floor refinisher who has moved out of the area, we contacted David. The imperfections included carpet tack holes, termite damage, pet urine stains, and carpet glue zigzags. After the initial sanding we knew that we'd picked the right people for this job. David replaced some of the boards, put in wood vents to replace the old metal vents, and gave us a choice of stains and finishes. We were blown away by the refinished look. The pictures give you an idea of the improvement but they hardly do it justice. The condition was worse and the final results even better. There were so many other little things that Ashley and David did that went beyond our expectations such as the wooden vents and putting pads on the bedframe's bare metal feet. Neither of these things were required, they just did them. Finally, time was of the essence and they got the job done a few days early! If you are going to have your wooden floors redone, get David Potter on the job. read more

We were so extremely happy with David and his wife Ashley. After calling around and talking to other flooring people it was clear this family business is a cut above the others. Our initial consultation with David was very informative. He spent extra time explaining the process, evaluating our situation, offering suggestions etc. He was a super pro and got us a quote right away. The house we had him work on was a second home. David and his wife were extremely accommodating given our situation. They kept in constant communication with us the entire way. The final product is just beautiful and I have to say they worked a miracle on very old, heavily scratched and worn floors. They fixed old mismatched oak wood patches perfectly, the workmanship was very high all around and they cleaned up impeccably. Price was extremely reasonable as an extra bonus. Love this business!!!!! The small wait was worth every single second. read more

Look no further David Potter Flooring is the best hardwood restoration and floor installation company in Monterey county. David and his partner/wife Ashley were quick to respond and adjust their bid as our project evolved. David is an extremely talented carpenter. He fashioned wood vents for our floors that look amazing. Turned a yucky old beaten up floor into a masterpiece that gets tons of compliments. To top it off they gave us a huge package of Furniture leg pads to protect our investment. I can't say enough good things about this operation. Call them first, You will be happy you did! read more

David Potter Flooring refinished the oak floors in the kitchen, two bedrooms and a hallway in my home. I couldn't be happier with the way the floors turned out - very professionally and expertly done. David is a true professional and it's clear he knows his business well. Previous hardwood flooring jobs I've had done have left my house a mess with sanding dust, but David and his crew left the house clean. And best of all, the work was done at a fair price. We have recently completed our house remodeling. We are extremely happy with the result of the newly installed hardwood floors and the refurbished old oak floors. Mr. David Potter and Mrs. Ashley Potter did an excellent job and they impressed us profoundly. We have had quite a few floor experts from San Jose in the past and none of them is even close to David and Ashley in terms of skills and knowledge about hardwood floors. The design this young couple made was perfect and the actual work is beautiful and adorable. They are very punctuate, highly effective, highly professional, and always thoughtful about the customer needs. With Ashley's effective admin work, the whole project proceeded smoothly without any delays or rescheduling. They are both responsible and responsive. Their equipment is top-notched and every step of the project is dustless. This is very significant to us because we just had the walls repainted before the floor work started. Their customer service is thorough and complete. Moreover, the cost is very, very reasonable. We would like to highly recommend them to anyone who is lucky enough to be able to hire them. Oh. My. God. They did the best job, better than we could have imagined. We have a 122 year old home that had the original redwood floors that had been at various times covered, carpeted, sanded and stained countless times. We ended up covering it with new oak which they stained with mono coat, an environmentally friendly product we feel great about. David and his wonderful family were incredibly patient with us, giving us the space to consider our options. They were great to work with, on time, fairly priced, we have nothing but good things to say about them. We hope to work with them on our upstairs someday. read more

David and his crew did the most amazing job "rediscovering", repairing and refinishing the hardwood floors in our new home (built 1941). The living room had a red oak floor that had a very bad do-it-yourself dark (almost black) stain finish. There were bumps and ruts everywhere. I didn't think it could possibly turn out. There was also some strange piece of stained plywood inset by the air intake to the heater as well. Next, we suspected wood floors under the carpet in both of the bedrooms. Turns out in the master bedroom, there was red oak, but there was a huge strip in the middle missing as a wall had been there years ago. In the guest room, he found Doug Fir, but with linoleum glued to it. David's solution was to sand out the dark stain and refinish the living room and replace the plywood inset with red oak, weave the strip area in the living room and refinish the red oak, and completely replace the guest room floor with red oak. In addition, oak heat registers were inset, and transition ramps (between e.g. the bedroom and master bath) and base molding strips (where needed) were added. It was refinished natural color with a matte finish (I believe). I can't believe the result. Spectacular. Everything looks brand new and perfectly uniform, the transitions between rooms are absolutely perfect and unnoticeable. The detail is incredible. Everyday I look at them and think about how beautiful they are. I think the price we paid for the amazing result was very reasonable and well worth it. David is a true pro and artist, in addition to being very friendly and helpful - answering every question. In addition, this was a last minute job on our part and he juggled his schedule to help us meet our move-in dates and coordinate around the last minute painting we had done at the same time. I can't recommend him highly enough. read more

I selected David Potter flooring according to the reviews I read on Yelp. I thought that if he is half as good as the reviews I would be happy. Well, not. He was twice as good, if that could be possible. I was actually sad to see him leave, as I was so impressed with his conscientious attention to detail and craftsmanship. He was always thoughtful and considerate, friendly, personable, on time and our floors were perfection. His wife, Ashley, runs the business like a pro as well and I would add 5 more stars if I could. It's so important to support our local community and the family business model and Potter Flooring is the best example of hometown quality at a fair and reasonable price. read more

David Potter Flooring has our highest recommendation! My wife and I recently purchased our dream home in Pebble Beach and while we loved everything about our new house, the hardwood floors needed a lot of work. As we were evaluating which contractor to work with it quickly became apparent to us that David and his wife Ashley were by far the best solution. They make a great team. They spent considerable time up front LISTENING to us to ensure they knew exactly what we were looking for. Next the installation went flawlessly. David is not just a superb flooring contractor, he is a bit of an artesian and perfectionist and that shows in his work. The restoration began and finished on time and if we had any questions from a business perspective, Ashley was incredibly responsive. So, if you are looking for a hardwood restoration and floor installation company located in the Monterey area that is knowledgeable, professional, easy to work with and competitively priced, we strongly recommend David Potter Flooring read more

We purchased a 1930s home in PG that had been restored to what might be called modern craftsman style. The cabinetry, including all the doors in the house, had a color of wood that made it difficult to find any prefabricated/prestained wood that wouldn't clash against the doors and cabinets, which is why we began to look for someone who could do a custom stain. We found David & Ashley through outstanding reviews on NextDoor and we were not disappointed. They respond timely. They know what they're doing -- so much so, I wouldn't really consider them installers, I'd consider them artisans. They're very good at mixing stains and finding great flooring options and their time estimates for wood delivery, as well as their work are very close to exact. As for their pricing, it is competitive with all of the other wood flooring places, however, the edge is their knowledge, experience, and great service. What's more, they're local and just really nice people. I can't say enough about our experience with them except that I wish there were more rooms in which we could install hard wood! You will not go wrong with this team. Highly recommend! read more

David just finished a job with us and I can not be happier. The project was a tricky renovation involving finishing/patching old oak parquet living room floor that he tackled with creative professionalism. He worked with us to give me exactly what I was hoping for- advising along the way. He and his wife responded so very quickly to my initial inquiry, came out the same day to give us an estimate and we lucked out as they had the whole thing finished so very quickly. We will have him back as soon as we can to renovate the floors in the other rooms in the house. Thank you David! read more

I would highly recommend David Potter Flooring. We hired him to install new hard wood floors in our home in Pebble Beach. David (the owner) did an outstanding job from start to finish. All the work was done on-time, right on budget, no issues with a perfect job upon completion. Not only did we hire him for the install, but we also purchased our high quality European oak distressed plank floors from him. He was extremely competitive with both labor and materials. David is truly a professional with a great work ethic, extremely polite, will go above and beyond the call of duty to accommodate his customers and treated us with the utmost respect throughout the entire process. His crew was outstanding as well. read more
