Left all his patients out in the cold and closed up shop. Couldn't get anyone to take a look at me for my lap band because they weren't the doctor who put it in. I was having issues so I had to have it removed . It was my only option since he never came back after supposedly taking off 3 months turned into 2 years or longer now. Very bummed I paid cash for something that expensive and had to have it removed . If you are reading this, then you are probably interested in gastric surgery for yourself or for someone you care about. I have fought the weight battle for most of my life. Work hard to lose it and impossible to maintain for any length of time. I have tried every weight loss program out there. I was successful with some initially, but in the end, I put back on the weight and then some. For my sixtieth birthday I went on a cruise. At 6"2", I had ballooned up to 330 lbs. For the first time in my life there were things I just couldn't do because of my weight. I hated this and was miserable. I knew I had to do something, or else I was headed for a wheelchair and early grave. I had the typical health issues for someone my size - borderline diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. I had considered gastric surgery but figured I just couldn't afford it. When I got back from the cruise, I went to my HMO doctor and got a referral. I figured what did I have to lose just to research it. At least I could make an informed decision. By great fortune I was referred to Dr. Oliak. I consider myself very lucky to have him and his staff to help me through this process. And one of the best parts... my insurance covered the procedure. From the start through my annual checkups, I have been nothing but pleased!! Dr. Oliak was very kind, understanding and patient with all my questions and concerns. I have never felt rushed during my visits. I cannot compliment his staff enough who were always friendly and efficient. He gave me all my options concerning the different gastric procedures, helping me to understand the pros and cons of each. I chose the GASTRIC SLEEVE procedure. I don't regret it for one second and only wish I had done it years before. I had the procedure in December of 2015. The pre-surgery and surgery itself were relatively quick and easy. I spent two days in the hospital. I think for most people it is only one day. The recovery time, for me, was a "piece of cake". A little minor pain and slowly adjusting to the amount of food I could eat during a meal was easy. The lbs. just melted away. I have lost a total of 140 lbs. I feel so great. I can hike or jog now for up to two hours. I ride my bike for 25 miles. One down side... I had to buy a whole new wardrobe and donate all my fat clothes. The quality of my life is 100% better! I felt so great now - don't want to overeat - and I feel it is easier to maintain my healthy weight. I can eat anything and everything that I did before the surgery. However, I stick to the healthy foods mainly but can indulge myself occasionally. Eating out is so much cheaper now. I always get two meals out of a normal order. I joke now that I should ask for a "To Go" box when I place my order in the first place. So, if you are contemplating the surgery, run, don't walk, to Dr. Oliak. I had gastric sleeve surgery with Dr. Oliak 5 years ago. I lost approximately 120 lbs and I've managed to maintain my health since then. I went back and forth contemplating surgery for 3 years prior to making the decision to have WLS. I researched quite a few different facilities and doctors before I found and decided to go with Dr Oliak, I am thankful every day for my decision. Today I lead a much healthier and happier lifestyle! He and his staff are extremely informative, helpful, honest and provide the best advice and services based on what they feel is the safest, cost effective and beneficial to each individual client. They take the time to explain every detail of the procedure, all costs and what all is entailed. They do not want you to make a swift decision; they want to educate you and have you take your time to make a decision. They have you meet with a Nutritionist prior to surgery also, so that you may better understand your specific body type and learn how to implement the best possible habits and how to utilize specific foods as fuel etc. For me specifically this was HUGE and and much appreciated. Got lap band surgery for 15,500 in cash, lost weight along with help from thyroid medication. Was told my adjustments would be covered because I was a cash payments and guess what they where only covered for one year! Within 5 years all the weight total of 70 lbs was put back on and I'm not trying to say it was because of the lap band but guess what when you have been adjusted too tightly but are hungry still getting the "right foods" down are hard. And then if you are past a one year mark they will charge $175 every damn time! I have never been so disappointed with something I spent my life savings on this and when I called to ask if I could have pricing on a sleeve since I'm a returning CASH patient I was told its 20,000 and I said even if I'm a returning customer that's already paid over 15,500 with and she said YEP! So look, go spend your money elsewhere, unless you have 20,000 or more just laying around ! They will not appreciate your business and also the lap band is simply a tool it does not make you eat less rather eat slower. Take your business elsewhere it surely wont be appreciated here! Making a decision to have weight loss surgery was not without much soul searching. After years of trying every diet imaginable, some with success, only to gain the weight back and then some, my weight had reached 264 lbs. No longer feeling in control, at the age of 62, I met Dr. Oliak. My intention was to have a consultation with a doctor, expecting to hear all the usual things we all complain about when talking to our doctors about our weight. Much to my surprise there was none of that. This is a shame because I think Dr. Oliak is a great doctor; however, his office is not up to par. I received additional bills months after my surgery that were not explained to me. I also was not aware that he uses an "out of network assistant" which results in an out of pocket charge of $5000 PLUS all of the out of pocket charges you will have for the procedure through insurance. It was explained to me that I would have out of pocket expenses, but when it's all said and done, that amount more than doubled. I expressed my concerns in the lack of communication with accounting prior to the procedure being done. They pretty much said, "You signed this form, sorry the charge is valid." Very disappointing. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE GETTING THIS SURGERY DONE BY THIS DOCTOR. MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND ALL OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES, INCLUDING HOSPITAL BILLS YOU'LL RECEIVE AFTER THE SURGERY. Going to Dr Oliak's office was the best decision I have ever made. Everyone there is very professional and supportive. At 11 months post surgery, I have surpassed my goal that I had set for one year. I appreciate the support group meetings that the office has every Monday. I know others who have had lap band surgery elsewhere and they do not have the same post surgery support that you will get at Dr. Oliak's.
