This was many years ago, and I will try to keep it short. I was badly injured at work, through no fault of my own. The plastic surgeon who first saw me, told me after many weeks, that I could go back to work. The injury was on my lower left leg. I took really good care of it. I went back to work, but the injury was still causing my leg to swell very badly. I was authorized to get a second opinion, and made an appointment at the PA Medical Clinic on a Tuesday. Dr. White asked when I had last seen the surgeon, and when I was scheduled to go back. My response was "last Friday", and I was not scheduled to see that doctor again, ever. Dr. White appeared to be somewhat shocked by my response. He briefly left the exam room, and came back with a camera. He took a photo of the injury, and told me I could not go back to work that day. I was again off work for a long time. I am in my 70s now, and still have problems with that leg. I wish so much that I had changed doctors, and started having Dr. David White take care of my injury. read more

Dr. White performed my post-mastectomy reconstruction surgery, and he was among the best physicians I've seen in my life. The work was top-notch and his calm demeanor (but with a good sense of humor) was a balm in a crazy time. Alas, I believe has retired, in which case I might suggest Dr. Roy Hong, also of PAMF and Altos Oaks, and another physician whom I regard and recommend highly. read more

Dr White has a unique talent. Not only is he a well trained and very experienced plastic surgeon, he is also an artist. It is quickly apparent once you've had any work done by Dr White. He is very skilled which is an important criteria for anyone wielding a knife within inches of my face, but he also has the ability to bring an artistic perspective to his work. Evidentally, he started out in life with the objective to become an artist, but then medical school and years of training intervened, and here he is today. An artist in a doctor's body with a strong following of fans. I have been a patient of his for a while and am very pleased with his work. Okay, so I can take off a decade off my age without being questioned, and will have to wait many more years than I should to get a senior discount without being questioned, but this is all a good problem to have. I've referred many people to Dr White and they have all been pleased as well. Dr White does have a lovely style and is very direct and honest. What has also impressed me about him is that he has talked me out of certain procedures telling me he didn't think I would benefit that much from them. Unfortunately, I must leave this review because first I went in because of some numbing pain that I was experiencing. He told me that everything looks fine BUT if I am still worried, I can get an MRI. And so I did get an MRI. The MRI was read by Rita E Sohlich, who completely read the MRI wrong. According to her reading, Dr. David White told me that I needed surgery within the next couple of months. And so I did get surgery (but in another town, since I felt more comfortable in my hometown where my mother could take care of me). This was dumb on my part - I should've gotten a second opinion (but then how was I supposed to know that I can't trust a doctor's reading?). Guess what? The surgeon found nothing to be wrong and that I never needed to get surgery in the first place. I know this review is a little confusing and vague, as I'm trying to explain my situation as much as I can without revealing too much personal information. Moral of the story? Always get a second opinion. read more

I do not recommend David White, Md., definitely not for anything that has to do with the face. Prior to surgery with Dr White I had an expectation about what the stitching would look like since I had previous injuries that required stitches, which healed nicely with thin scars that are barely visible. So when you are doing anything around the face, you can only hope right? Not so with Dr White, the opposite, the staples he used & the stitching were obvious & left nasty scarring. He was willing to do a revision, I accepted, big mistake. I agreed to a revision of a large scar in a small area behind one ear. Instead of revising that scar, he took the opportunity to cut my ear in several places (a real hack job) resulting in actually lowering the ear so much that my glasses do not sit straight . Even worse he then took a round ear lobe and pixied it, he wasn't supposed to do any work to the ear at all, and again, he didn't do anything about revision to the intended area. A pixied ear is considered a disfigurement. If his intention was to disfigure his patient because she had the nerve to ask for a revision then I guess he probably achieved that. I'm sorry to see that he is still in practice. read more

(I can't comment on his surgical skills since I didn't need a surgery.) I had a small injury and visited my family doctor. As soon as she saw it, she started screaming "oh my god!! someone else needs to see you!!" and started running around to find someone. Needless to say, she pretty much scared me. But she made up for that by sending me to a great doctor. Dr. White was very professional, calm, soft spoken, and compassionate. Even though I showed up without an appointment, Dr. White took enough time to examine the situation and reassured me that it's OK and that I'll heal fine. He explained me what would happen to the different parts of the injury over time and what to expect as it heals. I had to see him couple more times since my recovery was quiet slow. Once things were on track, he said I don't need to visit him again. He sent me off with enough information on how to attend to my injury and what to do to reach full recovery and mobility. He's the first doctor I've been to (in the US) that made me feel comfortable and not rushed so he can move on to the next patient. I had many questions for the pain I was feeling beyond the exact area of the injury. He listened to all of them and explained in detail why the pain was there and what I could do to feel better. His staff was also very nice and attentive. All in all, great treatment. I wish he was a family doctor instead. read more

It is true that Dr. White has a wonderful bedside manner and he is skillful as a plastic surgeon. It is also true that he will not, at times, do what he states he will do. He told, me when I complained that one side of my neck was not the same as the right and it was still wrinkly, he would fix it as he wanted more than anything for me to be happy, satisfied. He added I needed to wait at least 4 months post-surgery. Diane, his assistant nurse seemed surprised when I told her. Five months after at our last meeting he told me no, he would not fix it. In other words it is the best he is willing to do and the small task of taking up some skin behind my ear (his assessment of how easy it would be) would not happen. I did not argue as I don't feel it would have mattered. Obviously as I could not get a word in contrary to his decision, his mind was made up. He smiled, thanked me and walked out. Eventually I will go elsewhere. Oh and I felt every shot in my face during the surgery. Twilight anesthesia but could not tell him, at least 6 in my face. In late June of 2005, I was bitten in the face by a dog where my nose was literally bitten off and my upper lip was split in half. The nursing staff became a second family with caring, sensitivity, and always the right words to lift me up. Today, no one notices that my nose is not my "original equipment" ! A terrifying situation was turned around by the caring, support, and love that lifted me and carried me over and over again. Dr White is a brilliant surgeon & an artist. After a double mastectomy - he did my reconstruction surgeries. It's was a long road - infections & necrosis caused me to loose my reconstructions a couple times - to no fault of Dr Whites! He & his nurse Diane were responsive, competent & compassionate beyond belief. They both hold a very special place in my heart & I am grateful for the kindness & love they showed me during a time I really needed it. When it became clear my complications were severe & I needed a lat flap surgery instead - Dr White told me he 'could do it' but that his colleague Dr Bates is simply better at them & he wanted me in the best hands possible. I was like 'no! It must be u!' Dr White ended up assisting his (equally brilliant) colleague on my surgery so I would be comfortable. Surgeons are not exactly known for their humility, right? Dr. White did my breast reconstruction surgery as part of my breast cancer surgery. The negative reviews I've read are unfair as to his own talents. In this day and age, YOU need to be your own medical advocate - you can't be passive. That's my approach to my medical care, and I've needed it especially through this past 18 months with my breast cancer treatment. Dr. White is a bit on the shy side - which some may misinterpret as arrogant or uncommunicative. He is neither. He will take the time to answer any and all questions; when part of my scar wasn't healing as quickly as the rest, he made a point to see me when other doctors may have left the care to the nurse practitioner. I was fussy because I had scheduled a vacation in Hawaii after surgery and I wanted to make sure I would be able to swim in the ocean: Dr. White and his staff did everything possible to make sure I could. And I did. The bottom line is that my surgery went well, my recovery went well, and i'm very happy with the way my breasts have turned out. read more

Dr. White is gifted physician and surgeon. A serene practitioner, he answered all of my questions efficiently without my sense of being rushed. One two separate occasions, he removed a sebaceous cysts on my face. The results were utterly un-surpassable. (For example, no dermatologist I've seen has ever replicated the caliber of his work in terms of scar minimization. Importantly, he is eminently skilled and cutting and sewing.) I corroborate these findings with the fact that Dr. White is an amateur sculptor. I will return to Dr. White as the need arises, and would recommend that others pursue a consultation with him. read more

I selected Dr. David White because of the recommendations I received from the surgery nurses who work side by side with plastic surgeons on a regular basis. They told me they would pick Dr. White to do the surgery on their own family member. I found Dr. White to be very caring, professional, open to my ideas and very honest in his evaluations and opinions. Due to his extensive experience, he was able to correctly predict what would look most natural. He was truly correct. Even some of my closest friends could not guess that I had a procedure - they just commented how great I looked. I suppose the best predictor of satisfaction is knowing that a person would go back to the same surgeon if they needed some more work and if they would recommend him to their best friend. Well, I have been that satisfied. I returned for more this past January and also recommended one of my family members have him do a mini-face lift on her. It has been almost 10 years since the first time I used Dr. White. This time I needed more tightening of the skin so he recommended laser and a mini-lift. What has been most impressive about Dr. White is his demeanor. He never pushed me to do anything I wasn't totally comfortable with. He provided me with options, photos and timelines so I knew what to expect. Major disappointment. He took little to no care with his suturing. I have had surgery before with excellent results so I know the difference. Dr W has poor bedside manner and the results are poor in that the scarring makes the whole experience one you will not want to repeat. I have not been asked for permission to show my before and after photos, I am sure he will not want to show this!! He will show his nurse Diane to everyone as his ONE example, what does that tell you? I have no idea why he was so callous and unconcerned with a satisfactory final result, I treated him with total respect. I will continue to show these results to as many other plastic surgeons in the area as I can, I have already had 2 more opinions, of course they are willing to totally redo everything, I would have to pay as much and more than I paid him, unfortunately I can not afford that. read more

At present Dr. David White is the most senior of all the plastic surgeons at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. At first I thought he's the best, but now I know he's the most arrogant of all. He had his own nurse that's solely to work for scheduling his appointments and bookings. This nurse is quite impeculiar and haughty. Perhaps she thinks of herself as something extra special. And I realized that Dr. White is also the same way too. At first I thought he's nice, now I know he is a b------, does not really care for his patients. All I did was consulting him for my facial problems and misfigurement, perhaps for only a couple of times. And it did irritate the shit hell out of him, and telling me that he's just basically wasting his precious time on my case. That I should see a psychiatrist and not him. I told him that I know my insurance is paying him/them for every visit that I've made to their clinic and his time is not really being wasted on me. And he says my insurance pays him so little. And I tried to dig into my file and see that my insurance is actually paying Palo Alto Medical Foundation around $300 for every visit that I made just to see and talk to Mr./Dr. White. And Mr./Dr. White is still not happy with the $300 that my insurance is paying them??? On top of my co-pay of $20 for every visit? And that he refuses to see me anymore just even for consultation in the future??? Where is the compassion of this doctor for a patient like me that was misfigured because of the negligence of one of their ENT doctors anyways??? I wish he will retire very soon and not work for PAMF anymore!!! read more
