David was recommended to me by a climbing friend. I dislocated my shoulder - I was in serious pain and was also worried I wouldn't be able to get back to climbing. Visits to the orthopedic surgeon and physical therapy did not help. My shoulder was still weak and I was not confident it was getting better. Working with David was eye opening. He was able to pin point issues with my alignment and clearly communicate how it affected my shoulder. He patiently taught me exercises to improve my shoulder as well as my overall posture. The muscular manipulation was intense, but definitely made a positive difference - just remember to breathe! I began seeing David a few months after my cab was rear-ended by a box truck in the spring of 2014. I had been going to various other forms of physical therapy 3x/week for three months, and though I had seen some improvement, I still had lower and mid back back that was driving me to tears regularly. I was about to leave for a three week work trip around Africa and was terrified of how the pain was going to affect my ability to perform on the trip. A friend who knew of David's reputation for successfully rehabbing injuries suggested I give him a try, and I made an appointment no questions asked. I didn't even know what Hellerwork or Rolfing were, I just showed up. My first 90 minute session was calming and inspiring. It also turned out to be extremely corrective -- I flew to Africa a few days later and through three weeks of long hours climbing, hiking, hanging out of Jeeps, camping, running, and carrying heavy equipment I felt no pain whatsoever. I was blown away. I finished the 11-session series and it was the backbone of my physical, mental, and emotional recovery from my accident. At the conclusion I was not only pain-free but felt lighter somehow, and my understanding of my body and mind were fundamentally changed. The 11 session series exceeded my expectations and David was fantastic to work with. I've been struggling with chronic pain for the better part of the last eight years. I've been seeing David for nearly 3 years. I initially sought out some kind of bodywork after repetitive motion at my job left me with numbness in one of my hands. My hunt lead me to David & I'm so glad it did! I went through the 11 session Hellerwork series pretty quickly. It was hard to spread out the sessions as I always felt so good afterwards -- and wanted to go back as soon as possible. I was referred to David by the owner and a few coworkers at he trapeze school where I tech. I was in severe pain due to an injury from work and after trying multiple things to try to help I decided to try Rolfing. I did 10 sensations with David and apart from the shoulder issue I had, my whole body has never felt better. The whole experience was very educational since apart from the body work, David provides you with information on proper body mechanics and ways to move more efficiently through space. I had such a positive experience working with David. I came in to see David after I injured my leg during training for a half marathon. I did several sessions of PT that left me in pain. When I came into see David, it became clear that it was not just an issue with my leg, but overall, how I was holding my body caused me to have this injury. When I came into our first session, I was in so much pain and I could barely walk. After he worked on my leg and getting my muscles back in place to heal, I left the office with 60% of the mobility back in my leg. It made so much sense after David explained to me what was going on with my body and it was no accident that one side of my body was taking on more pressure than the other. I booked 5 more sessions with David and worked on getting my body back to holding itself up properly. You can't tell someone to sit up straight if the body doesn't have the muscle memory to know how. After our 6 sessions, I really felt like I was living in a whole different body. Everything changed from the way I was walking, sitting, sleeping and especially running. I went to Dave in a lot of pain. I am now in very little to no pain. I had torn something in my shoulder while working out and was in pain for 6 months before I found him. I also had elbow pain and I was dealing with chronic neck pain. I had pain in my left hip from sitting too much at work and pain behind my left knee, probably from the same thing. Dave helped heal all these problems. I went through the 11 sessions. Was it painful? At times, yes. But after every session I would feel better than I did when I walked in. And that was amazing to me. No one had been able to help me with any of these problems, not a doctor or masseuse or acupuncturist. This review isn't about his bodyworking ability, as I only made it through two sessions before deciding to go to a different practitioner. If you're like me, you've been through a lot of different treatments before going this route and you probably like to ask questions and understand the process of what's going on. If you're like me, David is the NOT the person you want to see. I believe hellerwork adds in an emotional component in addition to what rolfing does. Unfortunately, David ended up creating a very unhealthy environment. He wants you to be in the moment when getting treatment, which I understand... but when I would ask a question, instead of an easy and calm response of 'let's discuss your questions or concerns at the end of the session, as we need to focus on what we're doing now,' I was met with an air of condescension and passive aggression. At one point, and I found this hard to believe (as you'd think he'd be wanting me to relax), he was basically egging me on, as I become increasingly frustrated with the negative atmosphere being fostered during the session. I would think such a bodyworker would have some realization of where the client is coming from and that they're not going to instantly conform to how he wants them to act. So, if you're like me, he's not a good fit. For others, he may be great. Just figured I'd post this as a word of caution to those similar to me. read more
