I have been to Newton-Wellesley a few times and have had a great experience every time. I was…read morerecently rushed to the ER here with appendicitis (yuck!), and the ER overnight staff did a great job caring for me. They gave me a diagnosis within 4 hours and next steps despite not having a radiologist to read my results present (they outsourced). You'll notice people in the reviews will say you might be placed in the hallway, which was the case for me, but you will see that in every hospital. The ER is always overbooked and understaffed everywhere. Over the course of the night the staff regularly checked in on me, ran all of the necessary tests, and prepped me adequately for emergency surgery the next morning. The staff was truly exceptional, the surgical teams are incredible here. My surgery went flawlessly and they also did a great job with post-op follow ups, calling me promptly and scheduling my 2-week post op check in ASAP. During my surgery, they kept my contacts in the loop throughout the process. I thank everyone who helped me here at Newton-Wellesley and highly recommend choosing this hospital.

The Emergency Room at Newton Wellesley Hospital is in the 9th circle of Dante's Hell. I spent 7…read morehours on a gurney in the hallway of the ER. During that time NONE of the staff provided me with their names. I was two days post surgery on a knee replacement, and I had excruciating pain, pain that was not being controlled by the prescribed meds the doctor had given me. They got me out of the waiting room and into the ER in record time. However, it was two hours before someone came over to even check my vitals, and another three hours after that before a Doctor came to talk with me. During those five hours of laying on a gurney in the hallway I listened to medical staff talk freely with other patients about their medical issues and concerns right there in the hallway for everyone to hear. No confidentiality whatsoever in that ER. I went to the ER because the medications I had been prescribed for pain management at home wasn working. The doctor who introduced himself as a fellow on my doctor's team - again no name - gave me a shot of Torodol which really did the job. I felt that finally I had something that would ease the pain and at least allow me to rest for about an hour. What they didn't explain to me was that medication was only intravenous, and nothing about my home regime was going to change. However, the doctor informed me that Torodol was in the same family as Motrin, so I should buy a bottle of Motrin because, "it was basically the same thing." The benefit to the ER staff to stacking up patients in the hallway is that none of this patients have call buttons. I was literally on my own. After the Torodol had begun to wear off, I wanted to be discharged. I had a ride, and I desperately wanted out of there. It took an additional two hours just to flag someone on down who could (or was willing to) discharge me. I was furious! Once the staff understood how I felt about the craptastic care I received from them, they too wanted me out. They wouldn't answer any more questions I had, and referred me to my doctor's office on Monday. I will NEVER step foot into Newton Wellesley Hospital ever again!

Primary Care Docs.... God bless'em! Such a thankless job, so hard to do it well!…read more These guys do. I've been going since high school (that'd be around 10 years now, holy crap!). It started out as a small office with 3 providers, and has grown into a large practice with 3 office locations, 9 docs, 2 PAs. Some of the older docs, like Dr. Legare, no longer accept new patients. But all of them have top CV's, and are absolutely excellent. They practice correctly (that's important to me), are very approachable as physicians, take meticulous care to get your results back to you - with a personal note of reassurance always. If you happen to have a health issue, efforts are always made to provide care as fast as possible: I had initial appointment, ultrasound, surgical consultation and follow up appointment all in one week. Because of their association with NW Hospital, you have access to top services right away. My only problem with them is, now that they're this giant practice, it's become very hard to get an appointment on short notice, whereas before I used basically be able to call the same day. On the other hand, if you tell the receptionist to have the doctor call you, they alwasy do, and they can squeeze you in if you really need. If you live in the Newton/Wellesley/Needham/Weston area, I recommend them. Oh - for those of us with concerns re: healthcare system, I have NEVER been erroneously charged for anything :)

Then he tells me I'm rude and goes to tell his manager. Before he does that, I tell him he doesn't have to be concerned because I'm leaving. I don't think he was listening because when he was talking to the manager, IN THE HALLWAY for everyone to hear, he says oh, and now she's leaving. I get chased down the hallway. Do not get mad at me because the doctor told me something yesterday and I'm following her instructions. I should have listened to Dr Perna the first time I met her when she was more than an hour late for our first appointment so I left and about 50 minutes late for our second first appointment. She was upset I was upset. And she said I should find another doctor because she will continue to be at least an hour late but insisted I be on time. Passive aggressive poorly run practice. When I arrived at the office, Dr. Ginsburg informed me that she had a personal appointment in 20 minutes, so my appointment would be short. She only addressed one of the issues I had during this time. During my visit she ordered a lab test, but she never got back to me with the results. After calling the office for two weeks, she finally called me back and left a voicemail, stating that my labs came back fine, and the next step to solving my issues would be to do a lactose test. She gave no further instruction. I called the office back again for another two weeks, but never heard bad from Dr. Ginsburg until about two weeks ago when she called me to let me know it was time for my next annual, and she wanted me to make an appointment with her.
