I was never told -- I only found out when I was blocked at the door. They kept my £125 joining fee, left me without access for a week, and have dragged me through over a month of back-and-forth lies and contradictions. They're now even emailing me saying I "haven't cancelled" when I clearly have. As a disabled person, I find this not only retaliatory but also discriminatory. For a company charging nearly £300/month, to treat members this way -- silencing complaints, cancelling memberships without notice, keeping money, and refusing accountability -- is beyond disgraceful. Avoid at all costs.

Kids are banned from the gym floor and have to use a family changing room, so it's a great place to work out in peace in an adult only space. This month (November 2014) Virgin Active is going through building work, with large areas taped off. However despite this the gym floor is pretty large, and contains an impressive set of equipment. I've been told once the upgrade is complete, all the equipment will be replaced with even newer tech. I'm used to a scuzzier gym so this impressed me muchly. However space, cleanliness and high techy-ness doesn't come cheap - membership starts at £60 to £80 per month. I'm shocked that at this price, they don't provide the towels for free. That will cost you another £10 a month. Feel the burn, making a hole in your wallet.

Has continually grown since i have known it, the astroturf football pitches were a great addition and are very good to use. All facilities are kept clean and tidy and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The gym itself isnt the largest, but a few years ago was done up and the machines are excellent. Best i have seen anywhere, very high tech and you can email members through your Gym key, watch TV on your machines, listen to the radio and at the end of your session it tells you how many calories you have burned and what you need to do more of! Very good value for monay and a great place to go!

I…read moreprimarily use the centre for badminton, but there are so many other sports on offer such as tennis, aerobics, squash and a well equipped gym. You do not have to take out a membership in order to use certain aspects of the centre, such as the badminton or squash courts but it can prove more economical if you choose to do so, especially if you intend on using the centre on a frequent basis. There is also an excellent selection of activities for children, especially during the school holidays. The only thing that lets Redbridge Leisure Centre down is its poor changing and showering facilities, if these were improved then I'd definitely rate the centre higher.

I mainly use the pool and love the fact it's never too busy. It's great in the summer as they pull the doors wide open and you can lounge outside on the patio. I use to belong to a very well known club which cost twice the price and am so glad I swapped!

The downside of the sports club would have to be that being part of JAGS school means usage is restricted to the times when the school is not using the facilities, usually just morning and evening. JAGS is easily the most pleasant sports centre in Dulwich and Herne Hill and tends not to get too busy. It is however, probably the most expensive. In order to use the facilities you must be or be a guest of a member of the club. Adult membership for the year is around £450 or £850 for family membership.

I suppose if you want to exercise during the day it may be problematic but if like me, you work, then it suits perfectly. Its not that expensive either if you do your research as i did... cheaper than the other clubs in the area and has more to offer. The staff have been pretty friendly and welcoming so far.... All in all i am super happy with my choice. I get to climb, swim, play tennis, go to yoga all for the same amount as an individual climbing only membership at the reach climbing centre. My kids are now doing swimming lessons now while i climb and the Mrs does some yoga. Good Stuff.
