I came here with my bf. He was assigned by our care advocate for 911 workers to be seen…read more I was very impressed by how my bf was treated originally by Dr Ilowite. He received a thorough exam. He explained he was retiring in 2 days.I asked him about his replacement and he highly recommended Dr Hajeema Sutton. She is the Doctor who took over for Dr Ilowite. I decided to come here for my own care. I was very impressed by Dr Sutton. She is very warm and friendly. She answered all of my questions, and gave me a good plan to follow. I never felt rushed. As a matter of fact, she pulled up a chair to talk with me. She then checked all my moles thoroughly. ( I try to get them checked yearly.) The staff is very friendly. I love that they have appointments in the evenings on Mondays until 7:00p. This office is located in the back end of multiple office units. You can book appointments online. This dermatology group has many offices with different doctors.

I was given an appointment for two weeks later, to get the results and talk about treatment. On my way to the appointment I checked my messages and they left a message saying there was an issue with my biopsy. I called the office and they said the lab said there was not enough sample to get an accurate read, and that I would need to do the biopsy again.. I was like what? I thought I was going there to get my results, not to have the same painful thing done to me again, and band aid on my face again for a week. I cancelled my appointment and will never go back there. Unfortunately I have to have a biopsy again, there is no other choice, but definitely not there.

Yall know how seriously I take medical care as a fat Black woman. When I find a practice that cares…read morefor me as a whole person I will amplify them accordingly. First things first, it is incredibly hard to find a surgical dermatologist. In this field it often seems like aesthetics over everything. Before the pandemic ruined everyone's life I was being seen at 2 practices in north jersey - the first one didn't seem to understand why I would be bothered that my alopecia spots weren't healing and the second practice stopped taking insurance after my second appointment. As each injection is hundreds of dollars lmao that promising relationship ended quickly. Healthcare for the rich indeed. For the last 5 years I've been managing the patchiness on my own to inconsistent effect. Recently, another unrelated issue requiring surgery kicked me into high gear to find a new provider. I sought recs from my local FB group, friends and family, etc but they all kept leading me down cottage skincare and other lanes. It was actually a good old-fashioned Google search that led me to Dr. Patel. Bravo on winning the SEO game! From the moment I called (and rescheduled thrice due to car trouble - dang it MINI), the office was welcoming, accommodating, and scheduling relatively quick appointments. On my first visit, Dr.Patel and his team were thorough, curious, and caring. I felt so comfortable with them and I felt like I mattered. In many ways women become "invisible" after age 40 - add race and body size to the mix and it can be difficult to get the care and compassion needed to navigate health challenges. Dr. Patel suggested I get a full blood work up - and actually caught my low iron and anemia. So many somatic mysteries cleared up just because someone listened and cared. I have a surgical procedure scheduled in a few weeks that will bring me immediate comfort and the topical meds and injections Dr. Patel is giving me have restarted hair growth in some persistent patchy spots. I'm very thankful I found this practice!

I had to point out a few places; she looked at them and said I had nothing to worry about and balked at my request for something to help with blackheads, saying "I've seen worse". I don't care if you've seen worse. She prescribed me Epiduo and told me to pick it up at a Walgreens because there was a promotion... not my usual pharmacy but, ok, fine. I got the product and applied as directed for about 1-2 weeks, and it RUINED my skin. Literally, it's been about 3 years since this happened and the skin around my mouth is still having issues with dry patches. Then I saw Dr. Fox, the allergist. He did the prick test on my forearm and said "you're not allergic to anything, your symptoms must be from something else"... doubtful. I get congested and watery eyes like clockwork in the spring and break out in hives pretty frequently. Honestly, I think his test was expired. To top it all off, apparently they didn't check to make sure my insurance would cover the services rendered (yes, this was also my responsibility, but other doctors I have won't do anything until they know it's covered, and I requested the same at this office) and smacked me with a $550 bill that I couldn't pay using a credit card. I just made my last payment today and am glad I have them off my freakin back but JEEZ. I had a flex medical spending card I could have used and didn't have the cash flow to pay them out of my own pocket. So archaic. They've been understanding, letting my pay monthly. But the bill shouldn't have been so high to begin with. I feel ripped off. I would not recommend this office. It's old and smells musty and the Drs are stuck in their ways and not helpful. UPDATE: Learned from Dr. Dray on YouTube that one should apply Vaseline around the eyes, mouth, and nose when using anything containing adapalene (Epiduo is adapalene and benzoyl peroxide). Wish Dr. Alisa Fox had the knowledge base to tell me this. ALSO, I've been seeing a different derm who diagnosed me with Rosacea, which runs in my family, something else Dr. Fox didn't pick up.
