After a horrible experience with a local gyno (where she convinced me that I was depressed -I'm not, it's called PMS- and needed to be on happy pills), I've been a bit skeptical of docs. After reading Julia's review, however, I decided Dr. P sounded like my kinda woman, "someone I would love to have a beer with?" say no more. So I scheduled my appointment on Friday and they were able to put me in on Monday. I showed up at 3:30 (my assigned time), fearing I'd end up spending my entire afternoon there. Within 10 minutes I was seen by a nurse and within another 5 Dr. P showed up. She's just awesome. Totally conversational, quick to put you at ease, thorough... We talked about my medical history, she ran through a few exams, prescribed some medicine for my nagging cough, and sent me off for some blood work. I was out of the office by 4:15! She also referred me to a new gyno and dentist. All in all, Dr. P is terrific, thanks Yelp.

What stood out the most was that he didn't rush the appointment--he actually wanted to understand my history, my symptoms, and how my condition has been affecting my daily life. For the first time, I felt like a doctor genuinely understood the level of pain I've been dealing with. That alone was incredibly validating and honestly a relief. He explained things clearly, answered my questions without making me feel dismissed, and approached my care with both knowledge and compassion. The staff is friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. I do not see a huge turnover in staff. They have assisted me with various referrals and let I have always been seen the same day for a sick visit. The office is pretty busy but there is never a long wait. I have stopped in to ask a few questions and never felt like I was imposing. Once, when I was sick and the office on Sheffield Street was closed, I went to the F street office and was seen pretty quickly. I like that I can speak freely, all my questions are answered and the visits do not take very long. Thanks Doctor!! :) Keep it up!!

On my appointment date with medical history and current labs n hand, I found the staff very thorough and Doctor Stein exceptional. I was allotted all the time I needed to fill in my history as well as his review of my paperwork presented. Very impressive! I definitely made an important decision to have this office and doctor include me under their care.

I've been a patient of this practice since I was born, but Dr. Stein is the third doctor to own it…read moresince I've been going there. The practice started with Dr. Greenwald, and then went to Dr. Alan Shakt before Dr. Stein bought it when Dr. Shakt retired. Dr. Stein has owned the practice for a good couple of years now, so I know him pretty well. This practice is located on Morrell Avenue just off of Frankford, in the medical building next to the shopping center with Mr. Chicken It's on the left if you're coming from Frankford Ave. Conveniently, there's also a place to get blood tests done in the same building, just a different suite. Dr. Stein is a family practitioner who graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) about 11 years ago or so, so he's still pretty young. He's extremely nice, and he spends quality time with each patient, with his attention fixed firmly upon the patient during the office visit. He doesn't rush you in and out like a lot of doctors, and he listens carefully as you describe your symptoms. He's very careful about giving antibiotics only when needed, and he is extremely well-informed about the latest medical issues. He's very helpful with diet information, and he's particularly good and readjusting my spine if my back hurts (I'm young, I know, but I have back issues sometimes). I also trust his referrals to specialists because he knows his stuff. He's also got a cool PDA type of thing that he uses to enter prescriptions electronically, and *poof* they zoom through the air and print out at the front desk. That way, the pharmacist can read the prescription. He's also really available when the office isn't open, for emergencies, and he has coverage when he's not available. So, even though he's a solo practitioner, he's very accessible. His staff is also really, really nice. I've known some of them since I was really little, and the others have been there for a long time. It's a good sign when there is little staff turnover at a business, I think. I just have two tiny complaints. The first is that I sometimes find it difficult to get through on the phone when I call to make an appointment. It seems like it's always either busy or I get the answering service even though the office is open. My second complaint is that I always have to wait a while when I come in for an appointment. It's not unusual for me to get called back 30 minutes after my appointment time. I suspect that it's because Dr. Stein does spend so much time with each patient, but sometimes I'm in a hurry and it's annoying. My parents go here, too, and my mom once complained (firmly) to Dr. Stein about it, and it was like she kicked a puppy. He's far to nice to yell at. Honestly, though, these two complaints are extremely minor because I am happy to have a doctor whom I can trust and who I know cares about me. On a final note, I'll leave you with a story. I moved to Connecticut for two years for grad school, and, my first week there, I got the most awful stomach bug I've ever had. I threw up nonstop for hours, and I didn't have a doctor up there because I'd just moved, so I called Dr. Stein. I told him what I was experiencing, and he wasted no time in calling a prescription to the nearest pharmacy for a medicine that would make me stop puking. And it worked. That's a doctor who cares because he made no money from me on that call. It's not like he could charge my insurance for an office visit. He's the best doctor.

The receptionists can be a little unfriendly but Dr. Weidner and Nurse Anne more than make up for them. We used to see Dr. Bruner but stopped seeing her when she insisted that we needed to start rice cereal at 3 months -- that's been shown to be incorrect but she insisted she was right. When we saw Dr. Weidner at the next visit he was much more up-to-date and open-minded.

Dr. Requa goes above and beyond and is the best doctor I have met. I wish she saw adults! Dr. Bell is also great and both have called me on off hours to follow up with us when our children were sick. The nurses are very nice and knowledgeable as well. The receptionist can often be unfriendly but I look past that because of the amazing care we receive from everyone else. Can not recommend this place enough.
