I called to get more information and was told it was quite beginner friendly and offered a 4 week session for $15 a class . That was definitely affordable, so I signed up . My friend Nunki decided to join me in this adventure . It was a smaller class size, only about 7 of us , and even though no one was a hip hop expert , you could tell there was some students with dance experience there. (which is not me) The instructor was young , perky, energetic and flexible (also things I'm not , but I can fake it!) The first class was very fast paced for this beginner , but the third week I felt a bit more confident in my moves . I will say it is a great workout and fun without being overly strenuous for this plus sized gal. The instructor was very engaging and helpful , she did lose track once in awhile with her thoughts and the next moves , but with a beginner class, it was no big deal. If you are looking to challenge yourself (or get your kids interested ) in a dance program ,look into Future Dance!

We've belonged to three ballet studios (we've moved a few times) and have been here the longest. This school impresses me with the level of quality instruction starting with the youngest kids. At a previous dance studio, the "Pre-ballet" or "Ballet I" classes were taught by young college students (and even one high school senior) who were trying to get teaching experience. Here, every teacher we have had has been a professional and has instructed the kids as such. The atmosphere is caring and loving but also fairly serious. You are following in the footsteps of many dancers who have attended the school over 52 years and have gone on to dance careers. The Nutcracker performance sells out at UB every year, and the end of the year recital (also at UB) is an enormous production. This is not the YMCA's music and movement class. They offer ballet, pointe, acro, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, Broadway dance, jazz and tap, as well as adult ballet classes. The cost seems comparable to other dance studios in the area, and there is a discount for families. The school also offers camps in the summer, including a "Princess camp" for girls 8 and younger that seems very popular.

My daughter mostly just runs around and lives her best life but she's picked up a few new dance moves. You pay a monthly fee and go once a week as your "home class". We've partnered with her to teach some special classes for our group and we also have lots of members who attend her group classes and private lessons. Plus, she organizes performances in the community and we are increasingly working to combine efforts on this. Apart from being incredibly talented, Lihann is thoughtful, approachable, and very good at breaking down the material she is teaching. Additionally, she is super knowledgeable about historical aspects of swing dance, which is really interesting to me and a big part of what I want to take away from swing dancing. It's nice to understand how a dance developed and where you fit into that ongoing development. That said, you don't have to be a dance geek to enjoy her classes. Maybe you're getting married or want some exercise or a new way to meet people. All of those are good reasons to check out her classes. And she teaches ballroom style dances as well as swing dances, so if that's your cup of tea then you're in luck.
