So purely as a Dentist the visit was fine, say 4 stars, maybe five. However, it is now 2018, about 30 days ago, I received a letter for a balance due of $228 for the visit. I have not moved in the last 5 years, why am I jsut getting a bill now. After a phone call, to the office, i am referrd to my insurance at the time, it appears my bill was denied coverage as they were out of network. I will admit, that I do not recall specifically what happened in 2014. It is possible that I relied on the dentist office about coverage without checking with Humana, although I do not think that likely, maybe it is possible. However, my issue is why am I just now being contacted more than 3 years after service, it is very difficult to track down old insurance coverage. Additionally, the bill is not line with I would expect to pay if I went in for a standard cleaning. I understand there can be issues with handling insurance claims. And calling in the person I spoke with in billing was not able to adress the matter but had to send me to an outside billing agency. Waiting more than 3 years to reach out to try and resolve or collect any balance due is a big fail on the office side of the practice. I am glad to pay an appropriate balance for services. But be warned, always first make sure you insurance says they cover this practice. But with this office I experienced no follow up from the office side regarding any balance that may be due. With the insurance process generally requiring more paperwork these days, I would advise seeing a more experienced dental office with a better set up.

South St. Louis Dental Group - Where You're More Than Just a Smile…read more If you're not going to South St. Louis Dental Group, you are making a huge mistake--and your teeth probably know it. Let's start with Dr. Joern. The man is an absolute gem. Not only is he incredibly skilled and gentle, but he also remembers every single detail about my life--even when it's been months between visits. He doesn't just care about your teeth, he cares about you. It's like seeing an old friend who happens to have a DDS. And then there's Dawn, the Queen of Clean Teeth. I will wait as long as it takes for an opening with her. She's that good. She makes cleanings fly by with her kindness, humor, and freakishly gentle hands. If you're nervous about dental visits, Dawn will change your mind. The front desk staff? Angels. Literal angels. I've shown up on the wrong day (more than once, let's be honest), and instead of judgment, I get warm laughs and a magical "don't worry, we'll fit you in." Who does that anymore? They do. Oh--and shout-out to Rhea, who is the absolute go-to for tooth whitening. She made the process comfortable, effective, and honestly... kind of fun? My teeth looked amazing, and I left glowing. Bottom line: South St. Louis Dental Group isn't just the best dental office in the area--it's a place where you feel welcome, seen, and genuinely cared for. Amazing people, exceptional care, and the kind of place that makes you look forward to going to the dentist. (Yes, seriously.) Stop scrolling and make your appointment already. Your teeth--and your soul--will thank you.

I want to start by saying that my experiences with the dentist and dental hygienists at this office…read morehave always been excellent. Unfortunately, my interactions with the reception staff have consistently been the opposite--they often come across as rude, which has made me feel uncomfortable on multiple occasions. Back in October 2025, I had an appointment scheduled for a cavity filling. When I arrived, I was told it had been canceled and that I should have been notified. However, I never received any notice--aside from a text message sent an hour before my appointment reminding me to arrive. When I explained this, another receptionist, who was assisting someone else at the time, shouted across the room, "I CALLED YOU AND LEFT YOU A VOICEMAIL!" The tone was unnecessarily harsh and unprofessional. As I tried to reschedule, I also felt rushed into choosing a new date. This wasn't my first negative experience with the front desk, and it ultimately led me to switch dental offices that same month. I did attempt to share my concerns with management, but nothing seemed to improve. To make matters worse, when my records were supposed to be transferred to my new provider, the wrong records were sent. Today, I'm writing this review because I received a reminder text for an appointment on May 8th--despite no longer being a patient there and never scheduling such an appointment. I called the office to clarify and spoke with someone named Molly. When I explained the situation, she responded with a sarcastic tone and interrupted me as I tried to say I was no longer a patient. She then abruptly ended the call by saying, "Well, I'm sure someone else will be very grateful for this appointment. Thank you and take care." I'm genuinely unsure what prompted this pattern of dismissive and unprofessional behavior, but it has been consistently frustrating. While the clinical staff are wonderful, the front desk experience has caused unnecessary stress and ultimately drove me to seek care elsewhere.
