I also had an issue with hard shifts in my automatic transmission in first and sometimes second gear. I took the car there in the early am shortly after opening and it took them all day to look at it. I stopped by the next morning just to check and they had the repair estimate waiting. It was $880. They said I had a bad high temp sensor in the emissions system and I required a complete reprogramming of the on-board computer. The reprogramming would install all new computer updates and resolve the transmission issue. This did not make sense to me and there was something I just didn't trust in how I was being dealt with... so I walked. Yet stilled paid $80 for the diagnostic. I took it to Eagle Transmission on Rufe Snow based on referral. They asked me who cut the wire to my high temperature sensor? The wire was indeed cut in half and did not break from wear. They spliced the wire back together (FREE). The actual warning light issue was an air leak around my fuel cap. New cap $22 I bought it and installed it myself. They said there was no error codes concerning the transmission. Transmission issue was actually worn engine mounts. $550 They laughed when I said I was told I needed to have the onboard computer reprogrammed and then shook their head in disbelief. Eagle doesn't perform inspections, but referred me down the road and got a discount from inspection service based on the referral. The estimate that Ernie's gave me and the $80 diagnostic fee was a total sham. Had they done everything on the estimate the car still wouldn't have been fixed. My advice: STAY AWAY!
