And I'm not sure whose fries were delivered because mine had no hint of garlic and they were way undercooked. Think of a soft noodle and add lots of grease. I had to ask them to clean my table, there was a little snack there but I'm not sure what it was and a tip too but l left them for my server. When the food was delivered it was encased in a styrofoam container wrapped in a plastic bag. No catsup, no napkins, and I already mentioned no 1000 Island dressing. I was very hungry and my choices very limited (COVID-19) so I ate but the food was unremarkable. McDonalds serves the same food for 75% less and it's tasty. read more

First time we have eaten there and last time we eat there. We ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich and a cheeseburger with green chile with one glass of sweet tea. First thing I noticed was the tea tasted like it came from a store-bought gallon. I ordered tots with my cheeseburger and received potato chips instead. W e only seen the waitress we were ready to leave so no refill on tea. THE BILL came to 33.03 which I didnt understand just for a 9.79 cheeseburger ,an 11.00 cheesesteak sandwich and a glass of tea. The wife had water. Also no beer or wine being served . As I was getting ready to leave I hear the waitress tell the young man in line behind me his bill was 33.04. We were visiting Cloudcroft NM. Decided to eat at Dave's Cafe. Big mistake! First the hostess was very short with us. Told there was a 10 min wait. 40 minutes later we inquired about our table. One of my kiddos had one that was unbalanced toward the black pepper end of spectrum. Seasoning can make or break you. This establishment was recommended by a couple local businesses. We went there because the main bbq and pizza joints (which are great, by the way) were closed. I got tacos because, well, Taco Tuesday. The meat was bland, as in no salt, no seasonings, just plain ground beef with cheese on top. It was...sad. Their salsas are also flavorless. The red has a bit of heat at the end, but no taste. The green has some heat throughout. But again, no taste. All that accentuated by an apathetic waitress, the one with very curly and bleached hair. We only saw her when we ordered and when she delivered the food. No check in, no refills. Added a star for decent tater tots. The rest of it was bland and uninspired. We were in Cloudcroft for the weekend and decided to stop our shopping excursion to have some lunch at Dave's cafe. As we were waiting to be seated one of the staff treated us very rudely and suggested we go somewhere else to eat, which we obliged. I have never been told by restaurant staff that we should maybe go somewhere else. We ended up going to the Noisy Water and had a fabulous cheese platter and excellent beer and wine. My order was take out. The Heifer, that took my order was so rude,I didn't ever order for myself, but my family was hungry, we were leaving back to Houston, TX. Not only was she rude to me, but a lady asked her husband to tip, so he did. The Heifer checked them out a says "well that's a first! " OMG! I was so embarrassed for the lady customer, she says, really? The husband just walks off. This lady had to be the owner, or how could she be working there. Heard this place had great burgers, so I decided to try them out. I was very disappointed with the service and quality of food. It took them 5 mins to bring out our drinks, and 50 mins for our three meals. I wish I could say it was worth the wait, but it truly was not. Worst service ever! We came in just before 3p our waitress was friendly and took our order, no complaints there but then our appetizer fried mushrooms were horrible, greasy and just not good at all, she never came back, no refills, no checking up on us. We found out much much later she left. So, I went to go and get a Togo plate and the other older waitress said she will not come to us, we need to come to front for anything else. So, I got upset and asked if I could speak to the manager, her friend right next to her who never chimed in any concern at all, no apologies for no service. I told her wow you are a horrible manager. She could have cared less and as for the mushrooms that came with our lunch, she said you touched them and they would not take them off the bill, well yes we did only to find out how nasty they were. I am really sad this place was such a bad experience for us but definitely would not recommend. Food is generally really good!! However tonight 7/24/23 4pm we sat at the bar and the service was, well...pretty bad. All we were able to get was a couple drinks and an appetizer before the waitress/bartender disappeared. We finally decided to just leave & go somewhere else. Our barmaid was ringing someone out, never looked at them staring at her phone the whole time. Next was our turn. She asked for the ticket & we told her she never gave us one. Looking back at her phone she rang us up. Good news is we went across the street to Brother in Laws BBQ & it was fantastic.!! Made the mistake of getting some sandwiches here on a recent trip. Went with ham and cheese and BLT rather than burgers, which may have been error. I should have taken a picture, perhaps the most visually revolting food ever, starting with french fries that were dark brown bordering on black, and soggy. They appeared to be fried for a long time at a low temperature in rancid oil. Potato chips were no better. Stale, without crunch. Maybe they open a big bag yearly. Ham looked like ham gelatin in a sausage casing. Bread grilled in the same rancid oil. Maybe Otero County cannot afford a health department. read more

We ordered the chicken fried steak plate and the southwestern omelette. Both were fantastic! He chicken fried steak was fried perfectly, the meat done and the batter he perfect kind of crispy. The cream gravy was amazing and it came with two eggs, a biscuit, and the house made potatoes...yum!! The southwestern omelette was a win too! It was so big I couldn't finish eating it. I substituted bacon for ham and also had the potatoes. They were basically fried potatoes with a Tony's-type seasoning on them. I chose wheat toast with mine. It was extremely filling. The service was also great. Christy was kind and sweet. She was the only one serving and almost all of the tables were full but it didn't feel like we were forgotten or anything. She did a wonderful job! If you're in Cloudcroft...hit this place up for sure! Great hometown feel about it. It was recommended by the host of our cottage. wow this place sucks ass! I wish I can put negative stars! -10 / 10! Waited 45+min for our food. Got the adult grilled cheese, literally the cheese wasn't cooked. They didn't have the lemon pepper for the wings but didn't tell us until after the 45 min wait and they gave us some kind of discussing sauce that looked like snot to make up for. The BBQ wings were cold. The burger that we asked for no onions on because of allergies had onions, and also had something so hard in it that it almost broke my tooth. We ate here yesterday after spending the day exploring Cloudcroft! They are currently operating as take out only establishment. Honestly the food just wasnt that good. We got a garlic mushroom burger and some chili cheese fries and onion rings. The burgers were missing flavor and seasoning. They tasted very bland. The mushrooms and garlic gave it flavor but it still needed way more salt and flavor. Our biggest issue was that all our fries were nearly burnt. We got regular fries for one order, chili cheese fries for another, and onion rings for another order. ALL were super crispy, borderline burnt. Dave's cafe offers up old school classics with a new Mexico twist. Located in the mountains of cloud croft 8, 400ft + high, this place is one of the newer modern and nicer places in the area. Ambiance: entering the first thing that pops into your mind is the industrial look. High ceilings with exposed beams and sheet metal this place looks like it could be a brewery. Definitely a western theme present through the use of horsheoes and lots of wood in the furniture. Surprisingly there are about 4 little shops that show the industrial space. Service: was okay. Not the best but passable. My girlfriend and I didn't know if we would be seated or if we where supposed to take a seat, so we headed up front to the cashier and they told us to take a seat. We got our menus right away and they got our order out. Our waiter even let us split our burger and it was served on two different trays. The only con was that the waiter forgot our straws while all the other tables had them. Granted there seemed to be only 1 girl doing both the cashier and serving tables during the dinner period. You could tell she was working hard bussing all the tables. Food: We got the Willy which included some green chile's, mushrooms, grilled onions, bacon and jalapeños. It tasted super spicy with a nice heat profile. The cheese they used melted well over the whole burger. Additionally we got an order of tater tots which came out piping hot out of the fryer. They came to our table slightly underseasoned but with a little salt and pepper the tots tasted way better! Price range - most of the burgers are less than 10 dollars. Each come with the house chips but for an additional cost you can get fries or tots. Overall: Dave's cafe offers up some decent burgers at a good price. This place is a local favorite for sure. Don't be scared if they stare at you while you eat their burgers. Be prepared for some local hospitality and maybe a bit slower service but a great eat especially after a long hike or drive through the mountain twisties! Wanted to try something new and saw they had vegetarian options so myself and my SO stopped in. Got sat decently quick even though they were busy. Menus were in kinda bad shape. Our server was very fast getting our drinks and taking our order. Tea wasn't very strong but didn't taste bad. As they were busy, it took about 30 minutes to get our food. My SO ordered the Asian spicy sauced wings. He said they weren't spicy to him and the sauce is sticky (be prepared) but overall the wings were okay (6.5/10). They came with celery, carrots, and ranch. I ordered the veggie philly. It needs more mushrooms. It was mainly bell peppers. More cheese wouldn't hurt either. I'd give it a 5/10. My dad had one of the burgers with raw rather than grilled onions and I had the Alex (veggie) sandwich. My food was good but my dad really enjoyed his burger. Service was slow but polite. It took forever for our food to come out but especially in my dad's case, it was worth the wait. The "Salads and Vegetarian" portion of the menu was a little misleading in my opinion because many of the items listed weren't vegetarian. I asked if a meat substitute was being used but that wasn't the case, they simply lumped everything "green" together. The bar side of the venue was really busy the day we went (weekend) but if you aren't having drinks, there's a separate restaurant side where you can be seated. It even took a while to check out (at the counter) because it looked like there was only one waitress on duty. She ran at least three orders out before we could pay. That was surprising to see on a weekend but other than the long wait times, it was a good experience. read more

Our server was very short and not very friendly. We had to ask for water 3 times, which we finally received 45 minutes later. We ordered chili cheese fries as an appetizer and they were pretty bland. The chili tasted like it was from a can and there was barely any cheese on them. I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich on Texas toast. The toast was not toasted at all, and there was no Buffalo sauce on the chicken. The fries were not cooked thoroughly. My husband ordered the mushroom Swiss burger, which was very dry and had no cheese. The server was rude to other customers as well. We will definitely not be returning. read more

Ok, so we read on other sites that Dave's is dog friendly. Not really. Here's the deal: dogs are allowed on the front porch, at the entrance to this bar and grill, where patrons are walking past you on the wooden sidewalk. There are maybe three pub tables there. You then have to order your meal as takeout--no table service on the front porch. Then, when they call you, you have to pick it up in those little styrofoam boxes with the plastics utensils. Except, they don't actually call you--you have to somehow telepathically "know" that your order is ready and then tackle an employee to actually give it to you. Oh, and also no alcohol on the front porch (you know, liquor laws and all). So, we ate our dry burgers with no cold beer to wash it down. And, I have to say that this "no alcohol outside the bar on our front porch where you are eating our food" is pretty ironic since when the musician, when taking a break between sets, sat down at one of the pub table next to us with a bro and LITERALLY LIT UP A DOOBIE. What the heck? You can smoke dope on the front porch but you can't drink an amber ale?? The food? It was ok. The hamburger was over cooked and I was blessed with maybe 12 flavorless steak-cut fries.
