This place is an absolute gem. The bookstore itself is small but their selection of books is quite the opposite. There's something for everyone! Any time I've visit the island this is the first place I go. The arrangement of books is thoughtful and the view from its coffee shop is stellar. One of the best parts about this store is Kelly. She is great at making everyone feel welcome and she has this knack at finding you the perfect book. The first time we went in, she noticed what we were looking at and immediately found something by similar I had never heard of before. She's like one of the magical librarians who is great at finding you your next favorite book in minutes. Overall this is one of my favorite bookstores in the US.

Am I predictable? There's a small town on this little island, and even though I spend a lot of time hiking and exploring, the one time I spend a bit of my afternoon in town, and I spend a large chunk of it at the bookstore. Ya, that's probably predictable if you've ever observed my small town touristy behavior, but it's just so lovely and charming that you can't help it. Simple things -- the smell of the pages, the kind young hippy behind the counter, cards made by local artists -- these are the things that are hallmarks of a small book shop like this, and I was not disappointed to find all of them at Darvill's. For those who want a take-home souvenir, this is not a bad spot to shop. The souvenirs here are not cheap tchotchke, but instead useful items. Books about the island, photos from the surrounding areas, hiking and biking maps -- these living items would be used and abused and then brought home as a remembrance item of a vacation well-spent. The island moves slow, so you've got plenty of fiction and non-fiction to choose from for all that down time. It's a small space but they've managed to pack in enough variety that you don't feel it's a library, nor a terrible gift shop. Cute section for kids, and I really do love the treasures like the cards designed and made by local residents.

Darvill's Book Store is located in the town center of Eastsound! They have a pretty decent selection of books for the village... probably it is mainly geared towards the tourists. There is a quaint children's section as well. On another side of the store there is a coffee shop. I didn't try anything from there but it is a cute feature to the shop as well. Hopefully the food and drinks are enjoyable here. Everyone that was dining certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves! There is also a small DVD section too on the cafe side of the store. DVD's you purchase, not for rent. It is mostly more mainstream releases but I saw a film that got put out by the Criterion Collection on their shelf for sale so I definitely give them props for that! As you go into the store there is a sign that discourages the use of cell phones but going off of pictures on Yelp a few people snuck in a few pictures... tee hee. Nice little bookstore and a shop worth returning to when I come back to Orcas Island!

Fabulous bookstore with a surprising inventory for a small town shop. Knowledgeable and helpful staff! Will return again and again.

We love to see a bookstore thriving!! This is so much more than just a bookstore (and adjoining…read morepaper/confectionery/novelty shop). Its a community hub! I recently moved to Bellingham and Village Books (and paper dreams) actually really swayed me to move here. Its a book palace, 3 stories of well organized selection. The front facing books are well chosen, and the used books are interspersed with the new books. There are quite a few staff picks sections, all of which are super interesting and worth looking over. Three days before Christmas 2025 I was there trying to pick out a horror book for a friend of mine. Horror is not my genre (more of a fantasy and literature gal myself), so I for sure needed guidance. The shop lady spent so much time reviewing the whole horror section with me . When we couldn't find the main book we decided on me buying, she spent the time looking everywhere for it. She enlisted the help of two additional staff members. When she was needed for another task, she made sure one of the other shop ladies had me covered. I ended up ordering the book, which came in a few days and they texted me when it arrived. Easy peasy! I will never forget that experince, especially as the store was jam packed with x-mas shoppers. Village books in fairhaven is the spot! My only note is that their bookclubs could be better. The bookclubs are during the day and don't have different genre selections (they are mostly nonfiction). There is a silent reading bookclub that I might try. They could be cultivating different types of communities (ie book clubs geared towards romantasy, sci-fi, literature, etc.), but maybe that will come with time.

This store seemingly has it all; great selection of books, both knew and used, lots of old wood, and a staff that seems knowledgeable if a little bit unhappy. The last part can explain why the vibe is just off. It just doesn't feel comfortable nor welcoming, and if I had to put my finger on the cause, I would say it is likely due to management. I witnessed firsthand how the store manager ignored customers in line waiting to pay because he was on the phone. You never ignore the customers who are right in front of you. I wish the store all the best, but I'm gonna take my book shopping business elsewhere.

This isn't a sterile chain shop--it's a warm, sunshiny hub built from beautiful wood tones, welcoming you to slow down and stay awhile. What immediately strikes you is how wonderfully curated the space is. Despite being "jam-packed" with thousands of quality used and collectible books, the store manages to feel open, airy, and inviting. The selection is fantastic, especially their deep cuts in Pacific Northwest History, general fiction, and esoterica. Browsing is a delight thanks to the meticulous organization that makes finding that hidden literary gem feel like a genuine discovery. The "Coffeehouse" part of the name is equally crucial. Serving delicious, locally-sourced coffee (like Olympia Coffee Roasters beans) and boasting a pastry case filled with unique treats--the legendary rosemary sea salt rolls, figgy bars, and baked goods are must-tries--it perfectly complements the reading experience. The friendly, attentive staff, who are clearly passionate about bookselling, are always ready to offer a recommendation or assist, often going above and beyond. Whether you're looking for a quiet, bright nook to get some work done, a comfortable chair to sip a vanilla bean latte, or an engaging evening out for a poetry reading or live piano music, Pelican Bay delivers. It's a bookstore with character, clearly beloved by locals and a mandatory stop for any visitor. It's the kind of place you'll remember long after you've left Anacortes. Highly, highly recommend!

Great place for pictures, affordable great quality second hand books, and oh did I mention it's also a coffee shop. I mean could it get any better? No I don't think it could. I genuinely felt so happy the moment I stepped inside this store. It's just such a beautiful space that feels cozy and inviting. After walking around a bit I went to order a coffee. And I honestly don't think I've ever met nicer baristas in my life! They were all so sweet and kind and helpful! I tried out the fig leaf latte and the autumn tea latte and both were spectacular! Great flavor and smoothness. Overall I love this bookstore and it's well worth the drive! Definitely a hidden gem! I'll be back!!

There's so much amazingness packed into the shop, it actually overflows into a second space across the hall! In this neighboring space you'll find used books perfect for light summer reading. As I mentioned, there is something for everyone at Lopez Bookshop. My personal favorite section of the store is the children's book nook. It's an entire room of beautiful picture books and young adult novels by some of the most talented writers and illustrators. I could easily spend hours checking out the selections on display, and I'd love to be best friends with the book buyer so we could regularly talk about the latest and greatest in children's literature. Their love of children's books runs so deep, the confines of the book nook wasn't sufficient space to showcase everything. A lovely display of "Picture Books for Readers of All Ages" was featured in the main part of the store, wherein I found several books by Neil Gaiman, Sophie Blackall, and other writers/illustrators I adore. I found my happy place. The sales clerk was incredibly friendly, greeting me just as I walked through the door. She let me know she was there to help if I needed anything, and we had a friendly conversation about how well-curated the selections in the store were. I felt welcome, supported, and happy to shop in such a lovely place. A lot of love has gone into creating this bookstore. Visitors will find beautiful chalk drawings featuring poems and quotes throughout the shop, as well as colorful displays of books faced-out so shoppers can see what's new. Please do me a favor and buy your books from Lopez Bookshop because bookstores owned by true bibliophiles are the most magical places on earth. Shop small and buy local!
