One of the most original Japanese restaurants in Hamburg…read more There are not many places like the Akari in this city. Minimalist interior, Japanese staff, Japanese guests, and very tasty Japanese food that is worth every cent. I had the seafood salat as a starter and a sushi and sashimi mix for my main. Super fresh fish, very tasty and nicely textured rice (which is really important for good sushi), and good service. I'll definitely come back for some Udong noodles and some grilled dishes.

It's a small, quaint shop and has been owned by a very kind Japanese man since 1990; he doesn't speak much English but always gives me a smile when I'm there. There is also an English menu available. There's some non-sushi dishes hand written in German on a chalkboard on the wall. This includes a salmon miso soup which I enjoyed, although I like the sushi a bit more. It's pricy like most sushi places (you'll probably pay 10-15€ to eat), although the presentation is nice and it's of high quality ingredients. I could easily recommend this place if you're looking for sushi in Hamburg.
