The shrimp po-boy was one of the best po-boys we've ever had!! The shrimp was plentiful and juicy, it was fresh (at least, it doesn't seem frozen)! Their specialty sauce they used really brought the whole sandwich together. A lot of po-boys tend to be dry, but not here! The whole sandwich was juicy, and the bread was neither dry nor hard at all like other po-boys I've had. It was an absolutely delicious meal! For only $11, you get a sandwich about a foot long! They cut it in half for you, so it's perfect to share with someone if you'd like, but they also offer a smaller portion if you're staying safe from the coronavirus! Because of the pandemic, their dining room is closed, but you can pick up your food and take it home without an issue. The only reason I'm not giving this a 5 is because the bread was soggy by the time I got home and ate it. So my advice: if you're ordering the special, get the gravy on the side and dip it in so your bread stays crispy! Otherwise, such a good sandwich. We split the large sandwich and my half was very filling. I thought there was a good combination of everything on my sandwich. Perfect for each bite, important things you know. The bread must have salt baked in because it's perrrrrrrfect in bringing out the other flavors. Didn't need to add any additional. On 06 AUG 2019, I was in Lake Charles for a 2-day business trip. Although I had been to Lake Charles a few times previously, I never had the chance to go to Darrell's, as I always arrived too close to lunch and the wait times were allegedly too long for my 30 minute lunch. After continuously hearing the hype, I opted for an early dinner and showed up arrived shortly before 5 PM. Even though the dinner crowd had not yet arrived, the restaurant was already 2/3 full. The restaurant is very spacious on the inside albeit a little loud due to so many customers. Susie and Darrell DeRouen opened Darrell's in 1985 and their menu is very simple. In fact, they only carry 8 sandwiches (po-boys) and a variety of chips and drinks. That's it, so don't bother asking for french fries or any other side items. As per numerous recommendations, I opted for the Darrell's Special, which is their signature sandwich made with ham, turkey, roast beef, and roast beef gravy. I would highly recommend the home-made jalapeno mayo, as coupled with their home-made gravy, it transformed this sandwich into something spectacular. The meat was piled high and the bread is baked fresh on-site. Although I am a born and bred New Orleanian who loves his French bread, this soft variety submarine style bread is delicious. On a side note, they also make their own butter sauce and BBQ sauce. On Thursday's, Darrell's has pint night, and you can get domestic pints for $3.00 and imports for $4.00. Heck, they even have a drive-thru in case you want to take your sandwiches home or back to your office. My server Anaclare, who introduced herself as Ana (pronounced Anya) was "Johnny on the spot". She greeted me quickly, had my drink ready in no time, kept my glass full and had my sandwich on the table in less than 10 minutes. In fact, it may have been only 5 minutes. She was definitely a good server. The prices are very reasonable, the restaurant and restrooms are very clean, the food is great and the servers are nice. What more could you want? I am absolutely going back on my next visit and plan to try the surf & turf (Sliced roast beef and sauteed shrimp cooked in roast beef gravy and homemade butter sauce). Never had a poboy before, so I'm not sure how these stack up to others, but this was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I asked my server if she recommended one in particular. This place was cool for a quick little stop by. We went here on a late night and it was one the few places with good reviews open in the area at the time. The service was solid here. We didn't want to order much so we split a sandwich and they were able to split it and serve it separately. The look of the sandwich wasn't exactly great BUT it tasted delicious! The shrimp and beef were very tasty. I'm not a mayo fan but it worked well enough with the sandwich. my boyfriend and I were driving from San Antonio to Atlanta, Georgia, which is a 15 hour car ride due to the hurricane, we stopped here around noon on a Friday 10/11/24 because we got a flat tire and needed a repair and wanted to find a bite to eat whilst it was being done. We happen to have a service dog and left his paperwork in the vehicle at the tire place because we were told they had outside seating I began having an episode as the day has been stressful, and we had to walk to get here they refused us service which as an establishment you are not allowed to do with animals vest or not as you never know their humans condition not only did they refuse a service, but the manager copped a major attitude when my boyfriend simply attempted to explain my current situation to them and that I just needed some sustenance and water and air conditioning and my dog unfortunately we had no option but to still order from the establishment anyways and eat on the pavement as i could not continue without care. read more

I don't know where to begin. Great sandwich, terrible customer service. Rude with attitude unbecoming of any restautant my family cares to patronize. Firstly, the phone is always busy. Very difficult to get anyone on the phone to place an order. So we ordered a very big order on Doordash (over $100), expecting we would have an option to notate our order needed to be packed for travel. We did not see that option and saw that our order was confirmed. Fortunately, (we thought) we were able to get them by phone, within a minute or two of order confimation. When we aksed if we could have the order packed for travel, they said no, that the order for 6 sandwiches had already been prepared. We placed the order at 11:07, and had them on the phone at 11:08 with our request. 11:09 an email confirmation that order was received. Pick up time scheduled for 11:45 to 11:50. Our call at 11:08, they told us the order was already complete and they could not pack it for travel. We went as far as to drive to the restaurant and attempt to reason with them. The owner/manager refused to do anything to make it right, claiming that 36 years in business that they are not worried about an unhappy customer. We won't ever go back, despite the fact we have supported their small businees for many years, prayed they survive hurricaine Laura and other tragic events in the area.
