The taste was fine but they seem to have forgotten the shrimp in the shrimp Poboys. I'll pay $30 for a shrimp poboy, but there were very few, very small shrimp. If there were that many shrimp on a 5" poboby as there was on my 10" I would still be upset that there weren't enough. Very disappointing. Nice gem in Lake Charles. I usually don't like roast beef sandwiches but the ones here came highly recommended. I loved that their tables are plastered with local businesses. I ordered the surf and turf..roast beef and grilled shrimp covered in gravy and butter. It was super damn tasty. Came with a side of potato chips. It also comes with a jalapeño mayo but I got it on the side. I personally didn't like that it was just mayo with slices of jalapeño in it. I thought it would be more like a spicy aoili. Visiting Lake Charles you need to stop by Darrel's for a quick po boy. Well, it does get crowded so it is not as quick as you think. But don't let that deter you it's worth the visit. Are friends had bragged for years and they stopped there every time they went up to Lake Charles, so ultimately we made the visit this weekend. The menu is very simple only four types of Po-boy sandwiches, what bag of chips and soda our adult drinks (beer...). During our visit, I had the surf and turf and it was delicious. The sandwich had the jalapeno mayo and the gravy... yummy! my wife had the turkey /ham with the gravy on the side which btw you can have if you want to control how much you want on it. Our friends had the Darrell special the hottest-selling. The tables are the typical diner and an abundance of beverage napkins to wipe the gravy off your face. Stopped in while passing through, read the reviews and my 83 y/o mother really loves a good poboy! So we went out of our way to stop here. It was just the two of us, I ordered two roast beef sandwiches with extra gravy just the meat mayonnaise and lettuce only. A good bit later a different server not the same waitress that took our order brought out one sandwich. Seems they lost the other one or the ticket got ripped in half or something. So I let my mother get started, Halfway through her sandwich she discovered all the different cheeses that were down to the bottom of the sandwich and she does not like cheese. She was very disappointed. She also said it had no mayo. I looked and it was very dry. I told her I can order another. Once she already ate half of it so I didn't wanna ask about sending it back. She was completely done and I still had no sandwich. Finally the girl brought it out and I mentioned about the cheese and she took it back to have mine fixed because apparently there was cheese on that one too. So as I was considering canceling altogether, she finally brought my sandwich out the correct way. The sandwich was good, but I've had better, I'm a New Orleans girl. You can tell it's a local joint, they're definitely not hurting for business. The menu is very limited. I'm OK with all of that, I love the local joints, but no one even offered to take anything off the ticket price to accommodate for the issues, no apologies, nothing. First time trying Darrell's after hearing about it from several friends. I've heard they are some of the best Poboys around! I ordered the Darrell's Special with Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef all the way with the jalapeno mayo and it comes with cheese and a brown gravy from the Roast Beef!! I also ordered the Turkey Poboy all the way with the jalapeno mayo. All I can say is just Wow!!! They are served hot and that Darrell's Special was just awesome!!! There are just so many flavors coming together all at once!!! I just can't describe how good it really was, it was just simply delicious!!! But you have plenty of napkins on hand, and they do give you plenty of napkins because the gravy is going to be all over your hands, but it's all worth it!!! It's really so good!!! The Turkey is awesome in it's on right and it's just as good minus the gravy dripping out of the sandwich! If you get the large you can really eat only half and a bag of chips and be good until dinner and you can tackle the other half!!! I highly recommend it if you're ever in Lake Charles!!! I got both of these at the drive thru just across from the main Restaurant. There is a little outside building strictly geared for phone in orders and it's very convenient. I am not the biggest fan of poboys but when I was introduced to Darrells, it's a must stop when in Lake Charles and I have to have it every time. Its a small place with only poboys on the menu. The menu is simple, pick your poboy of choice, chips and your drink. My absolutely favorite is the surf and turf, roast beef and shrimp in a brown gravy with lettuce and jalapeño mayo (not spicy) on a buttery delicious french bread. On days when I am rushing back home, I just ask them to package separately and am able to put it all together once I get home so thats conveniently a plus. Some friend recommended a stop at Darrel's. They said they had great po boys, so we stopped. Nice little place, a mile from I-10 and across the street from the Jennings (3R7 for you pilots out there) airport. The shrimp poboy is grilled shrimp and not fried like everywhere else, with roast beef gravy. Sounds ridiculous and terrible but it is delicious. Like really delicious. The roast beef poboy is even better. We had skipped the sides because we ordered two very large poboys - we usually order one and split it.
