Additional info below." *end dislclaimer* While I have been to Blockhouse Point Park previously, it had been a number of years. This past weekend I decide to take the trip with my gf and our dog. The actual place in which we parked was about half a mile further (than the address listed for this park) on the left. There is space for about 6 cars, and the large lot, about 25 cars. The trail which we took was the Blockhouse Trail. It was quite easy with only a little bit of incline/decline throughout. Signs clearly mark the trail, which is about 2.5-3 miles round trip. Various other trails intersect and a short detour can be taken. The blockhouse trail leads to two awesome Potomac river overlooks. It was summer, so obviously there are lots of leaves on the trees. Even so, the views were spectacular. You are right above the Canal and have a nice view of VA and the river. If you are looking for something fun for a few hours that is off the beaten track and has great scenic views, this is the place for you.

Some friends and I went for a hike on a Sunday morning and while the website says they might charge you a few dollars for parking, we didn't see anyone at the gate house and no one asked us. At the Ranger station, the bathrooms were very clean, quite warm actually, and there was a couple of interesting habitat exhibits. Just a really well run state park with lots of activities. They even had a station where you can get free firewood, and build a little fire.

This review is for the Winter Lights Festival…read more This is a pre-ticket event so don't forget to buy your tickets before trying to enjoy the lights! As a drive thru only lights show, it was interactive with different "movement" lights like a gingerbread man doing cartwheels, fish jumping, or presents tossed by teddy bears and Santa. My toddler absolutely loved the lights and it was especially nice to still be in the warm comfort of your car. It was about a 15-20 minute slow ride around the venue, and most of the drivers kept their distance from each other so you didn't feel rushed. Pricing wasn't bad either - $15 for one car (unlimited occupancy) on a weeknight. I recommend going closer to the start of the event time, as by the time we were leaving, there were quite a line of cars coming in. There's also porta potties near the ticket check gate to pull off and use the restroom or stretch before heading in/out.

While planning the wedding, I kept in contact with the event coordinator (clubhouse manager), Kevin, on a regular basis throughout the year. He truly made wedding planning so much easier for me and my husband and he helped us so much during the day of the wedding as well. Kevin made sure we had a plan A and a plan B for the ceremony. Plan A being an outdoor wedding and Plan B being having an indoor wedding if it rained outside. Luckily, we went with Plan A! We had our wedding outside with the view of the gold course, grass, and a lake. My wedding photos look amazing. (In a couple photos there are people golfing in the far background but what do you expect, it's a country club). Food was great also! We had passed appetizers with a full open bar during cocktail hour and then served entrees for dinner with a open half bar. All of my guests enjoyed the food and that the venue and wedding were beautiful. Price for the venue and food was A LOT less than what my family and I expected which was a huge plus for us. All in all, everything was perfect and I'm so glad that I had my wedding at Bretton Woods.
