This is a wonderful park! The lake is beautiful and there are plenty of walking paths (and parking) all around...not to mention a plethora of benches, gazebos, outlooks, observation areas, picnic shelters...and even restrooms that are open outside of the nature/discovery center hours... We've been here before during the summer season but this spring evening there were few people and it was very peaceful....it was so relaxing to walk along the small pebbly beach by the boat rentals! (The rentals won't be available until Memorial Day...) Highly recommended if you love lakes and woods... read more

A lovely place to hike, bike, and kayak! The scenery is beautiful and diverse, lots of bird watching. There is more trash on the lake since increase in lots of new homes in area, so if you go bring a garbage bag and clean up such as I do. read more

One of the most beautiful parks in the area. I visited this place several times, but I didn't realize that there were several areas to enter into the park. The visitor center area is the main one that is closer to the lake; however, you can also park at another residential area entrance to see more of the path toward the bridge. [Parking] Plenty of non-parallel parking. Don't sweat it if you're a new driver. This place is easy to drive to and not hard to park at! I had parked at the Black Hill Regional Park visitor center. It took about a 2 minute walk to see the lake portion. [Photoshoot locations] You're able to use your drones here! We had planned for a photoshoot via drone + DSLR. It was a Bridgerton-styled photoshoot. 1. There's canoes/mini boats that you can take photos in. 2. A walkway to the water. 3. A forest portion. 4. We have visited this park a couple of times and find it really lovely. If you like to walk, this is a great and scenic place to get your steps in! It's 1,300 acres. The Black Hill Trail is a fairly easy, 4.6-mile, mostly hard-surfaced trail. There are also 16 miles of natural surface trails and a water trail on Little Seneca Lake. Our most recent visit was mid-week -- on Valentine's Day! It was a beautiful day. Everything was quite clean and well maintained. There were only a few people there enjoying the fresh air and beautiful views but as we were leaving, several cars were headed into the park to catch the sunset from near the Boat Rental shop. Beautiful park! I came here from the Clarksburg side, and it is a very large park. I highly recommend this park for biking. The bike trail is very well maintained. They also have very beginner friendly hike trails as well. I noticed that there were quite a bit of picnic areas and party stands. Overall, great park for many different occasions. Love this hidden gem! Heard about it for years but never came until a Yelp photoshoot last fall. It was so picturesque! My church used to have picnics here for years. I regret never going! After the photoshoot I said I'd come back again on my own just to enjoy the scenery and that I did. I got some walking in and some pics of course. It was an early Saturday morning and quite a few folks were also out with their dogs, children and solo (like me). After my walk I sat on a bench near the lake just taking it all in. So peaceful! I plan to come back again sooner than later - it's definitely worth the 30 minute drive for me! read more

Had a lovely time kayaking on the lake at Black Hill regional Park. I brought my own kayak so it was easy to launch either at the boating area or by the kayak rental area. Beautiful scenery and easy to navigate the lake. You can also get a phenomenal sunset, which makes beautiful background on your phone. read more

I can't count how many times I have been to this wonderful place. I used to date a woman who lived right beside it and we'd frequent it often for a picnic or a boat ride. I could literally walk outside her townhouse and take the walking trail right to it. That was a marvelous thing. It is such a beautiful area with much to offer in regards to hiking, boating, picnicking, etc. and especially for those within or around the beltway who are looking for a place that is close to escape the hustle and bustle for the day to relax. Personally, I'd recommend taking a blanket, some snacks, a cooler with beverages(adult ones too), books and hiking boots and enjoying all this park has to offer. I'd say the best time to visit it is in the summer months but honestly every month has its pluses in regards to the scenery. I have some wonderful memories here and I am thankful it exists :) Go check it out and enjoy! read more

During this quarantine, I've been exploring and hiking at parks around the area. Black Hill Regional Park has a nice, picturesque lake and a couple of trails. There is no trail that goes around the lake, just along a part of it. There were quite a few people chilling by the lake on a sunny Saturday, but the park is spacious so it was easy to keep a social distance. I went off hiking on one of the trails and it was empty. It was a pretty peaceful hike and that trail led me towards the entrance of the park so I had to hike along the side of the road back to my car. I'd return to Black Hill and check out the other trails. You can also bring your paddle board, kayak, etc to the lake. I think you can also rent boats. read more

What a gem in Montgomery County! If you have not been to Black Hill Regional Park, then you must RUN don't walk to get there! Actually, you should probably drive, they have plenty of parking! My work recently had a barbecue at this park and I was not only thoroughly impressed but I was actually blown away at the amount of activities they have available to people! Let me list my TOP FIVE reasons you MUST VISIT. Also, you can also take a look at my pictures to see how amazing they are in more detail! 1. PICNIC AREAS!! They have picnic areas with grills and everything and the location we were at was near a bathroom...a clean bathroom so get your hot dogs and hamburgers ready...stat! They have large and small picnic shelters...10 to be exact! 2. PONTOON!! They not only have a pontoon that does tours but they have kayaks, canoes, and paddleboats galore...all the aquatic toys you could dream of..that don't take gas, of course! This is the best place to work your biceps, triceps, and legs! 3. ZAGSTER BIKESHARE! Don't feel like latching your bike onto the back of your car or don't have a bike? Don't worry about it...they have a bikeshare station at the Visitor Center and they are stylish!! Just don't forget your helmet...I love your brain!! 4. FAIRY GARDENS! In addition to the adorable fairy garden area and pick a flower station, they have over 20 miles of hard and natural surface trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. This is a good location for a drive on good weather. It is quite spacious where lots of people are congregated and it can be a quick reminder that there is a good bit of nature nearby. The water here is the best spot for pictures with a large body of water, but if the weather is perfect, -arming here can be troublesome as a lot of people park on the side and it can be disruptive. What I liked about this place is the peacefulness of it all when you are alone. It just brings life to a good standstill as you watch the sun rise slowly. This is something you don't get often when you have been stuck in the immediate area with nowhere else to go. I have not done too many activities besides walking and enjoy the scenery, but that is all that is needed to enjoy this place. There are people who hike around or boat, but that is not my style. I use this place to slow down rather than an active place. read more

Dog Exercise Area was a large fenced in area with benches, but we were the only dog there. We hike the dirt path of Hamilton Trail. This trail has bridges, river, and trees everywhere for a shaded path. It was great to take a break from work and enjoy a hike day. We brought a picnic and our dogs. We also saw many animals at the lake. read more

When I first visited Black Hills I wanted to go on a lengthy hike but couldn't find a path around the lake. It was perfectly gorgeous, had a nice dock and you could rent kayaks. It struck me as the type of place families go to for picnics. Then the second time I came here I discovered a paved trail (mostly paved) and a boardwalk that took you into Castle Rock, Germantown. It was a great bike path and also a nice trail if you have kids in a stroller or in my case, a pug in a wheelchair. I knocked out six miles in a day just on the paved path. But then the third time I parked over by the Castle Rock trailhead (instead of in the park) and discovered small branch off trails into the woods. What I am trying to say is that for a free park in Montgomery County,Black Hills is full of surprises. It does not disappoint. read more

I got into kayaking this summer and made a list of all the places I wanted to visit before it got too cold. This was such a lovely place to go. I wish I had made it back for the fall colors, because I bet they look spectacular from the water. It's a nice easy place to kayak for a short distance or a long one. At least on the day I went it was pretty busy without being so busy that you couldn't move around easily or that it felt crowded. You can rent a kayak or paddleboard here as well! read more

A decent sized park to go on a hike, have a large gathering, ride on kayaks or have a picnic. Been here a number of times and have had pretty good experiences each time out. Very spacious and comforting for families, kids, and adults. Parking areas are easy to find and walk from. The water is nice, nature walks are peaceful and calming. I can see why this park gets a lot of attention and 5 stars!! Even there is no camping available it's best known for its boating, picnic area and trail hiking. I went to rent a paddle board and it was $11.50 an hour. There are lockers that can be rented for a quarter so you have a spot to put your belongings. A beautiful park with plenty of parking. I was there for a Yelp Elite event. We did fall photos and had some beautiful views on the lake. I noticed many other people there taking photos and getting some exercise. The park is tucked away so you wouldn't notice it from the main road. There is no entry fee. I observed a police officer directing traffic at the main intersection before you arrive to the boat dock area. Walk your dog, go to the dog park, have a picnic. Black Hill has it all. Oh yeah and just down the street from the outlet mall! Overall we have enjoyed walking around the lake a number of times. We also love the very clean and friendly dog park. This is a very nice park overall, clean and lots of different areas to park and explore. The one bad thing, the trail does not go all the way around the lake (we found that out, while on a walk around the lake!). read more

This a great, little regional park that is right along the Little Seneca Lake. They have a paved trail that is great for running and biking and a small trail that goes along the shore of the lake. There is boating and a visitor's center, but both were closed at the time of this review due to COVID I believe. But there are tons of mown grassy areas to sit and enjoy the view, lots of shoreline, and a few activities for kids including a bird blind and shovels in a digging area. I went on a beautiful weekday and only saw a handful of people, but I do hear it gets crowded on the weekends. Gorgeous place that's worth a visit. read more

The park is beautiful and has a number of parking lots available. The trail I walked was all asphalt, making it possible to go for a walk or jog regardless of the previous day's weather. There are signs letting you know what certain areas are used for and bathrooms are available. The trail I walked has a stream that follows the trail and adds some peace and calmness. There is something about the outdoor the water and the trees that take the day to day madness away. Maybe just numb it for few hours. Black hill park is one of those places I come to when I have at least 3 hours, or when life become too stressful. And when I leave I am happier, relaxed, and ready for the next stress. The people who keep this park so beautiful are doing an amazing work. And I can tell they really care about it. It is us, the visitors that destroying it. And I am talking about garbage and things visitors leave behind. I saw plastic bags, bottles and even diapers where there should be plants and trees. Not a lot, but enough. Enough to hurt and danger the wildlife. So come to the park. It is beautiful. And please, do us all a favor and leave nothing behind. read more

Park near Germantown??? Where has this been hiding all this time??? It's a regional park, so no fee to enter. Just drive on in. There is ample parking, but it might be tricky to determine where there is going to be shade cover so your car isn't steaming when you return... There are several trails and they look fun. But I came with one purpose, and one purpose only... to get on the water and have a fun afternoon! So it doesn't appear that you can swim in the lake... and it looks like there's a lot of growth... and keep an eye out for sunning turtles and such! So rented a kayak. There was ample supply -- not sure why, it was a beautiful day... just fill out a form at the window, give them a photo id, and then they can set you up. On goes the life jacket and off you go!! Just don't go near the dam or past some road... it is apparent. You could spend a few hours on the lake if you want to explore every nook and cranny. But at $10 an hour... no problem. Also, if rowing isn't your thing, there are other options... all the way to a guiuded tour of the lake... just sit back and relax... Great place and not too expensive!! read more

I need to explore this park more. When I had come in the fall to take my friend hiking, we were expecting moderate to advanced trails but instead, found more of the paved kind. We wandered around the lake on the Black Hill Trail. While the view was beautiful and serene, we were hoping for more of a workout. 6/29/14 Wonderful day for a cookout with the extended fam! My Puerto Rican mother always plans a cookout in this beautiful park at least once during the summer so we all can get together. The park is really nice and well maintained. We always set up in Pavilion H because it is back in a well-covered area by the trees so that we can have shade. Last year it was really hot, this year it was really nice and the trees still helped keep it that way. There are designated parking lot and a paved trail to the pavilions. The covered pavilions are equipped with a few trash cans, two grills, and numerous picnic benches for use to set up shop, eat, drink, and chill. Of course you are responsible for you set up and clean up. We had an amazing time as we do every year. There is a nice playground not too far for the kids to play. There is also a lake that people can fish, kayak, boat, etc. Definitely check out the website for more info. Great park for a family day! read more

This park is great and clean! It's free to enter, has ample parking, has pretty views of the lake (we went in the fall, yay fall colors!), lots of picnic areas with roofs, playgrounds, and a dog exercise park. My family and I walked around the lake for a nice leisurely stroll and there are paved paths and natural trails. We did not have time to go all the way around but the part we did get through was very easy and relaxing (: Also... For PokemonGo players, there are lots of Pokemon, pokestops, and gyms here, hehe. Will definitely come back to explore more of the trails and maybe try renting boats when it gets warmer again! read more
