Holder Law - Nicholas L. Holder

I retained Holder Law in July 2026 for an urgent conservatorship and trust matter involving my…read moreelderly father, who has dementia and is in need of professional care. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. I paid a $3,500 retainer and provided extensive medical, financial, trust, and conservatorship documentation. Despite the urgency of the situation, progress was very slow and communication was poor. I only spoke directly with Mr. Holder during the initial consultation and again when I decided to terminate his services, despite several requests for updates. After approximately two months, I received a working draft of the petition that I felt did not adequately reflect the information and documentation I had provided. At that point, I had lost confidence in the representation and terminated the firm. I requested an invoice and refund. The final invoice used the entire $3,500 retainer, including $870 for two hours spent drafting the petition, and I received no refund. I understand attorneys charge for their time, but based on the communication, progress, and work product I received, I do not believe my father's $3,500 was money well spent. At the initial consultation, my recollection is that Mr. Holder told me the petition could be completed in approximately seven hours. After two months, the draft I received was still far from complete. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this attorney.

Attorney Holder and his secretary turned an unpleasant endeavor into a satisfying experience. Both were extremely friendly and exceptionally helpful, no matter how ignorant my questions seemed. Attorney Holder was very thorough in his work, which now allows me to be absolutely confident that the handling of my assets after I pass will conform to my wishes.

Jenn did a fantastic job consulting with me on my divorce!…read more She helped validate what I wanted to do was fair and permanently legally binding, gave me the ammo to directly negotiate with my spouse (I did not want either attorney to do direct negotiations - my ex and I knew the parameters that needed to be negotiated and it took quite awhile - but we finally worked it out together). Jenn collaborated with me in a way that I wanted - and gave good advice every step of the process. She was extremely responsive and also very fair with her fees. Finally, she worked with me on a straightforward MSA that my ex and I used to document the agreed upon details to the court. I found Jen through a referral from my tax accountant. But anyone reading this review should know that Jenn is the real deal and will help you with your divorce in a straightforward, honorable, fair way! And now, happily as of last month - it is all over and approved by the court. I Highly Highly recommend Jenn!!

I had a very unpleasant experience working with Jennifer. she is definitely a "take your money and…read morerun" kind of attorney. I paid her $15,000-$20,000 to just... disappear. She did not advocate for me at all in court. She straight up left in the middle of my hearing because "She had another case." And never told me that she would have to leave, beforehand. If you are looking for a lawyer in the Santa Cruz area, I strongly urge you to choose someone else. And if you do go with Jenn, be aware that she either likes you as a client or doesn't. And when she doesn't, she will take your money and run. I have heard that she has done this to multiple other people, as well.

Over the past year, I've been incredibly impressed with Jesse and his team. They are organized, responsive, and have become a well-oiled machine through multiple complicated proceedings. What I appreciate most about Jesse is that he knows when to fight and when not to. When something truly matters, he will advocate fiercely for you, and his courtroom skills are unparalleled. He speaks eloquently, knows the law, and supports his arguments with the appropriate Family and Civil Code in a way judges appreciate and understand. At the same time, he recognizes that not everything is worth fighting over. He encourages settlement and compromise when appropriate and understands that sometimes the "tranquility tax" is worth it to protect your financial and mental well-being. My best advice: use Jesse as your lawyer, not your therapist. He'll tell you to take the emotional side of divorce to a counselor--and he's right. Come to him directly with what you want to accomplish, and he'll tell you what's realistic and the best strategy to get there. If you're facing a difficult or high-conflict divorce, Jesse is absolutely the person I would want on my team.

Jesse was knowledgeable, straightforward, responsive, and always took the time to make sure I understood my options. What I appreciated most was that he gave me practical, level-headed advice rather than unnecessarily escalating situations. I always felt like he was looking at the bigger picture and helping me make smart decisions, not just legal ones. Even after my original case was resolved, Jesse has continued to be a resource when questions or issues have come back up. That says a lot about the type of attorney and person he is. I would absolutely recommend Jesse to anyone looking for a family law attorney. Divorce and custody matters are never easy, but having someone you trust representing you makes the process a whole lot easier.

Lucky…read moremy last one happened when I was a minor but they could of still treated as so because it was not 10 years. Greg spoke with the D.A. and got them not to bring it up. so I was pulled over for my tire passing the passing the pedestrian walk way. I was at my friends house earlier that day and probably had about half a bottle of wine. but I walked around walmart and just filled my carts (2) with items and made them get me a T.V . when I got up to pay, my husband text me its 12:00am on a Sunday and your still not home. Plus I knew I didn't need the items and T.V. so when they ringing up my two carts full of items and a 70 inch T.V. I told them abruptly I had to go. I don't want anything. I do believe walmart called the police because the first thing the cops said was wear are you coming from and did you still anything? I said no. than they asked if i had been drinking today. I said yes. they did a breathalyzer and at first it was a .10 two minutes later it was .08. The officer insisted. I am a female and the males searched me and even took my breast enhancements out. They searched my car and I Xanax, kolonopin, clonidine suboxone and Zoloft. The cops insisted I get a blood test. but they knew that would be higher. it was almost double the legal limit..14. He got me out of almost all the fines and all i ha to do was a 12 hour class. He is going to expunge it off my record after the 6 week. I would recommend Greg Carter to all my family and friends. if you are in trouble call Greg Carter. He does more than criminal, family law and dui. If you want the best of the best here he is!
