Our daughter wanted a tattoo for her 18th birthday, and we took her here to Dark Star, and we couldn't be more happy with the results. Her artist, Nico, did a fantastic job. He was very welcoming to all of us and he even allowed us to sit with her during the process. Nico was so kind, funny, and overall very down to earth. He made sure we were all comfortable and even gave me a charger for my phone, so that I could take pictures of her. Me and my friend went here for a flash sale on Friday the 13th and were presented with absolutely no respect at all. There were two minors working at the front handing out official documents and waivers for the tattoos that we wanted. These two minor children were very disrespectful the entire time and give incorrect information to the artist that we were seeing. I had written on the paperwork that I wanted my collarbones done, and they told my artist that I wanted it on my leg and arm without giving him the paperwork. When we called in to distress, our concerns for the minor children working at the front, we were told that we were harassing them and that we should come down to the store too "talk" to them in person. The two children in the front were not kind with their words and one of them sideswipe my friend multiple times. The tattoo artist themselves are amazing, but the management is shit. Brett Burns is truly the most professional, kind, and talented artist I've been tattooed by. I've gone to him 5 times in the last 1.5 years and I will continue to see him for many years to come. Brett always replies on Instagram the day I message him, he always has appointments that are available quickly, even the next day, and always works around your schedule. Brett's prices are very reasonable and always worth the quality he gives. He is happy to always work with whatever designs I want, always able to tattoo in the placement I want. He never gets frustrated over me asking for any changes to the design or when we move the stencil 5+ times. Brett encourages you to not feel uncomfortable over moving the stencil over and over because he agrees he wants the tattoo to be exactly how you want. Brett is very clean, always uses proper procedures to ensure safety and cleanliness, always switches gloves, etc. He tattoos very diligently and lets you take as many breaks as you'd like. When I get tattooed by Brett I feel comfortable and minimal pain. All my tattoos by him turned out amazing and exactly how I wanted and healed perfectly. His touch up's are free though I've never needed one. His original flash designs are beautiful and I'm always tempted to get them. I've recommended Brett several times and to probably any person who has ever asked me if I knew any good tattoo artists. I've seen 4 other tattoo artists in my life and none have compared to Brett. I even have and appointment next week for Brett to fix someone else's work I got which I feel like I owe him an apology for not just going to him. I have 2 Tats and a touch up/cover up done today by Terry at dark star!! Super professional and incredibly detailed. He did a great job putting on the care bear and minecraft creeper I had done for my kids and he even covered up and fix a tat I had done at a different crap hole. I am so impressed with his work and his price was super awesome. My wife also had a tat done by Terry at same time as mine and it is great!! Can't wait to go back in April to have him do more work!!! I have had 4 tattoos done by 4 different artists, and Tony at Dark Star is the best and most friendly tattoo artist I've ever had. I initially walked in for a spontaneous tattoo and was connected to Tony over the phone. We worked out a deal and I went in the next day which gave me the chance to send him my tattoo ideas so that he could create something unique and included all of my ideas. I went in and everyone there is so welcoming and the space is clean and fun. Tony had me look at what he had drawn up and made sure it was exactly what I wanted. He paid close attention to details and made sure it was 100% perfect for me before it permanently went on my body. The actual tattoo process was great too. He took his time, and would say "let me just touch it up a few more times so that it's just right and perfect". I so appreciated his close attention to detail. I worked on a design for a tattoo for quite some time. I put a lot of thought in to the design as it was to reflect my Grandfather who had passed, and my two young sons I am raising on my own. I brought in my artwork for a consultation, then again for my appointment. I was very clear in my explanation of the art. The tattoo "artist" said he clearly understood what it was I wanted. It was not a very complicated design at all. I am also a graphic designer for a living so it was a professional, clean, commercial print of what I wanted. There was a stylized "A" and "D" in the middle of the design. Not only did the "artist" color outside the lines like a 2nd grader on crack but he then connected the bottom part of the "A" making it look like an O. No eye for detail, no thought or care about the fact that their customers will have this for life, Horrible service and a "Who cares?" type of attitude make Darkstar an awful choice for your tattoo! You'd be better off paying someone on the street corner...at least they might look at what they're doing!! read more

He walked me through the whole process and tried to make it as painless as possible, which is a little difficult since I am such a wimp. I came in here a little while back to get an eyebrow piercing for their every so often friday deals. It sounded way too good to be true, I mean come on '13 bucks' for a piercing?! ..And it was too good to be true, unfortunately. The piercing looked fine once they did it but slowly started not wanting to stay in place. Then as time went on I had to literally MOVE the piercing to make it look right or it would flop to the other side and wouldn't be straight. This shop is cleaner than a hospital ER. Had two tattoos so far, by two different artists. The first half sleeve was done 4 years ago and look as clean and crisp as the week after I got it. Second was a rising suns light turning to flames on my left chest, Summer completed this in just under 3 hours and it is the best work I have on my body. I will finish my sleeve and right chest at Dark Star. In my experience its not a Tattoo artist job to design your tattoos, most do offer to help, but mostly from a standpoint of helping you avoid a mistake based on there experience. Disclaimer: I did not have my tattoo done here. Please read below and you will find out why... I went in and inquired about the price of a tattoo on my lower back. I didn't have an exact design in mind. It was just a spur of the moment kind of thing. I wanted to work with an artist to create a design I wanted and would enjoy to have on my body for the rest of my God given days. I walked into Dark Star, and after a few minute wait, my boyfriend and I were helped by an artist. I told him that I had no other tattoos and no specific idea in mind and I wanted to create a design with my artist. At this point, the artist seemed a little perturbed. Maybe he doesn't get requests like this often? I told him roughly what I wanted and sketched out a crude drawing. It seemed like he couldn't care less since I hadn't put any money down. The picture looked alright, but the artist didn't seem genuinely interested in it or in me as a customer, so I was wary of choosing him. Then, I asked him how much it would cost. He said, at minimum, it would be $225. Additionally, depending on the time, it could go up to $300. That blew my mind since it was only a black tattoo, with no color and it wasn't very large, but at the same time I had absolutely no idea what a reasonable price would be. Anyways, I set up an appointment to return later that evening. Later, as I was driving back, I noticed another shop. I decided to stop in and see how much he would charge. First off, he said the style that the other artist was going to use was very masculine and was typically not used on women. Additionally, he quoted me a flat rate of $125, no matter how long it took. Needless to say I was floored and I went with this artist. Dark Star is very popular in Vancouver. I think when you get a tattoo done here, you partly paying for the name. However, I think the artist was taking advantage of my naivity. I felt he didn't care about how it would turn out or what I really wanted since the artist I went with said it was a very masculine design. I'm very glad that I chose the artist I did. Now, I'm not saying that Dark Star doesn't tattoo amazing designs and provide quality work, because I looked at their work and it does look outstanding. I believe that if you walk in educated and firmly know how much you will pay and stick with that then you will be a satisfied customer. However, I feel I was duped and that is why I gave it a low rating. read more
