This is actually a review for their location at the Dunes. This is a really nice treat my kids always look forward to before we leave the Dunes. It's a classic soft serve style ice cream shop with dipped cones, sundaes, shakes, banana splits, and mixers (theirs are called "hurricanes") with many different candy options. Plenty of syrup options to mix and match with your sundae or shake. So tasty after a sunny day at the beach! It's hard to say no! I love that they converted the old pavillion building at the Indiana Dunes into a foodservice area with a full service restaurant upstairs, a cafeteria style place and coffee bar/bar downstairs, and this great ice cream shop along the side. read more

Dari-Dip is not the the best ice cream place in North West Indiana, but they are still pretty good. They are at least on par with Dairy Queen, if not better. The sundaes are good, the peanut butter dipped cones are good. Their chili cheese dogs and fries are decent. The staff was super-friendly to us as "first-timers" and helped us understand the local creamery lingo. I had the Eli's cheese cake pop, my kids had hurricanes with peanut butter cup mix and hubby had a cone. I have been coming to Diary Dip for 12 years and never had an issue until today. I bought the strawberry vanilla swirl ice cream for myself and my daughter. She told me it tasted funny, I tried mine which also tasted funny. It had a sour/almost chemical taste to it. I did not eat anymore then the first bite. I asked the young girl who told me she couldn't replace it and did not offer to help in anyway. She was very rude. I paid for ice cream that we threw away. I am a understanding person and usually never complain. However I am livid and beyond disappointed in how your staff treated our situation. I worked in the restaurant industry for 10 years and would have NEVER been allowed to speak to a customer the way your worker did. If we served a product that tasted bad we would have solved the problem so our customers would come back. I am so sad that we will not be back to Dairy Dip which was one of my favorite places. Portage's own knock off of Dairy Queen and if you ever played for PJM softball you've been here at least once in your life. They have way more dessert and ice cream selections then dairy queen including a line of sugar free low fat frozen yogurt options that are delicious. I went through the drive thru and they messed up my order, which I understand happens sometimes nobody is perfect, but I tried to get my order corrected and they said that they couldn't do anything because there is no manager working. What kind of a business doesn't have someone in charge working? What kind of a business doesn't fix their mistakes? I have been waiting for 3 days now for a manager to call me. I can't believe that this is how they run their business (it is ran by teenagers ) Today they told me that I can talk to the boss, but when I asked when he would be in, they said he rarely comes in. I've only been here twice and after the second time I probably won't be going back. My boyfriend ordered a banana malt. They asked what kind of ice cream he wanted so he told them vanilla. What he got was a gritty textured and gross looking vanilla malt. He thought maybe it wasn't mixed well and took another bite after stirring it and no banana flavor. He went to the window and explained that he wanted a banana malt and that what he got wasn't banana. This use to be my favorite spot for ice cream not minding the drive from Merrillville/Schererville area.That all changed yesterday.I drove out ordered my fav'upside down banana split' and a cookie dough hurricane. As I pulled into my garage my son dipped into his ice cream and pulled out a long string of blondish/brown hair after removing that piece I discovered more hair in his ice cream. I give them a call. A gentleman answered and I told him the problem. He rudely responded "We don't have anyone that works here with that color hair bring it back so I can see it myself.
