Truck was set up at the Schererville Parks Dino Day event. One of my sons went into the truck while I was standing outside with my other son who was waiting, so admittedly I didn't hear the conversation first hand. After his initial interaction with the guy, my son quickly exited running off upset saying he told him to get out of the truck. I had him go back in and tried to speak to him with my son explaining maybe he didn't hear him. He asked his initial question again, and then turned to me asking "was that okay? Could you hear that?" The way he asked was condescending and conpletely uncalled for. He then turned back to my son and asked what games he plays. He didn't give an audible response but instead shrugged because he didn't know what options were available. I tried to ask the guy to just tell him what options were available. He wouldn't answer my question right away but instead just kept trying to defend his actions for kicking my son off in the first place. When he finally answered my question, his directions were simply to pick up the red controller when there were multiple red controllers on the table for different systems. My son was obviously confused by this and kept looking back seeking further guidance. Instead of clarifying the instructions, he showed his growing level of frustration. At this point he turned to my other son and just asked if he wanted to play with his brother. He nodded because yes, he did but he wanted to play a different game. He didn't realize answering yes meant the same game as his brother picked. When they realized the other kids had started their game before they could join, both kids got up and decided to leave the truck while the guy running it was still defending his attitude with both myself and my children by saying he deals with children all day long but not all of them are deaf and mute. The deaf and mute comment was absolutely the most appalling response he could've given. After that statement, I scanned the google review QR code that was posted at the door of the truck and got off. Another mom asked me what had happened and while I was speaking with her, he then proceeds to get off the truck leaving the kids unattended to continue the conversation prompting Schererville event staff to come over and step in. The whole situation was completely unnecessary and outright appalling. After we went to do other events set up in the park, I had other mothers approach me saying they had witnessed what happened and shared with me how the guy was rude to them or their children as well. Maybe he does okay with a smaller crowd where he can explain things to everyone all at once but he has no business working with such a large group of people to react that way when a child doesn't verbalize a response. Also, simple solution, perhaps having a list of what games and systems are available for them to choose from could've prevented this whole altercation from the start. Having an additional person there to give instructions outside the truck while people waited in line may have also been helpful. It certainly would've prevented him from having to leave the kids unattended when he decided to come out and continue his verbal aggression towards me because he didn't feel his actions should've been upsetting to a pair of 9 year olds and their mother. read more
