My love for Alchemy of Movement is so big that it's difficult to put into words…read more I moved to CO for grad school almost 10 years ago, and I was planning to leave at the end of my program until I found Alchemy. Alchemy has given me access to amazing dance, exercise, strength (both physical and emotional), increased confidence as a dancer and a human, experiences that have helped me tap into my own creativity, and some of my absolute favorite people whom I would be lost without. I want to give a special shout out to the owner, Ashley Patchen. She is one of the kindest, most driven, tenacious, hardworking, creative, silly, amazing people I know. Her vision for the studio is what has made Alchemy what it is today, and for that I am eternally grateful

Every instructor and Ashley, the owner, are super friendly and they put you at ease when you step into the studio. You can tell that this isn't a typical fitness or dance studio where you come and go and don't get a chance to meet anyone. This is family and a MOVEMENT with a BIG MISSIOn that inspires everyone to be themselves, to express their unique quirks and personalities through movement and that you don't have to be a dancer or professionally trained at all in order to feel amazing about yourself and most importantly to just have fun!!! Thank you for creating this sanctuary, Ashley and thank to every instructor and member to contributing to the energy of this place.

The show opened with two acts in a cube, which were fairly comical, especially a section involving swimming gear, performed to Strauss' Blue Danube Waltz. This portion was a great insight into the group's philosophy and attitude towards the performance. The rest of the program utilized the purpose-built climbing wall, which served as one of the coolest, most original stages I've ever seen. The dancers performed several different pieces, rotating through the group. The Isabel von Rittberg's choreography flowed beautifully, and was executed perfectly. My favorite performers were von Rittberg, Ryan Gaunt, and Sadie Landram. The dancers were as poignant and graceful as they were strong and steady. The vignettes provide commentary on the rhythms which dictate our lives. Each piece communicates different emotions, feelings, and situations, from a love story to individuals scaling the same high cliff face. My favorite pieces were "My Heart grew wings beneath Desert Skies", "Levitate", and "Heart-Core". I highly recommend that you take advantage of ANY opportunity to see this group. An incredible and moving performance!

The Ascendance Project is a group of seven dancers who challenge their choreography on vertical walls without the use of ropes! WHAT!!! Talk about taking dance to a whole new level. You know you've got talent when you can dance on vertical walls, have in-sync coordination and hold horizontal body positions off the wall. At one time I was reminded of lizards crawling under the desert rocks. The graceful acts even had dancers performing upside down in positions I'd never thought possible. The lighting effects created dancing shadows which at times accentuated the dancers in the act. It was beyond any dance performance I've seen. Never seen a show like this? Don't worry, they have more shows to inspire you to hit the gym. And if you miss their home season performance during March 6 to the 14th, then you can consider challenging yourself in one of their classes. It might come in handy if you ever decide to go rock climbing.

While most in the Alternative arts and medicine community have incredible hearts and caring personalities, very few have achieved what I would call a high-level of practice, or, "Master" status. It takes a dedicated practice and training with highly qualified teachers (the 2 main factors that are missing in most practitioners'/teachers' backgrounds). Scott has trained intensively (and I'm not talking about a year here or few months there) with the best, and continues to dedicate himself to his practice to this day. Scott's expertise becomes more and more apparent the longer you study with him, as he never shows off his abilities or strains to prove himself. I wish nothing more than for him to get into the ring with one of these "Mixed Martial Arts" fighters, thoroughly kick their ass, and end that nonsense of a sport. Alas, he would never do such a thing. Scott's teaching style is very individualized, meaning everyone gets a lot of attention. He is attuned to the needs and sensitivities of each student, however different they are, and will adjust the lesson accordingly. From young children to older people, he has an enormous range as a teacher and instructor. I am looking forward to when my daughter will be old enough to begin taking kung-fu lessons with him. I recommend reading Scott's reviews for his San Francisco practice as well (don't miss the "filtered" ones), as there are some excellent testimonials of Scott as a teacher.

Where to begin, first of all about me and who I am, I'm 29 years old I've been studying buddhism,…read moremeditation, and body awareness practices steadily since I was about 12. I spent about 4 of those years heavily involved in aikido (w/ Frank Doran-sensei), kenjustsu (kashima shin-ryu) and kyudo (ANKF). More recently I spent about the last 5 years living in China as a full time live-in (gongfu) student of a daoist priest. I have been helping a friend teach some of his classes in the San Francisco area but have so far refrained from making it a personal profession though I have been encouraged to do otherwise. What to say about Scott? Having met various teachers in China, Japan, the US, and even some in South America, I have never met one that held a candle to Scott's mastery of gongfu (kung fu) as a vehicle for self defense, a cultural art form, or a vehicle for spiritual transformation, let alone all of them together or with an understanding of why they all matter and how they relate. I've met a lot of folks who traveled to china to live and train there, sometimes for years. It's really exciting to go to a place where it looks like "just in the movies". The thing about someone like Scott is... he's hard to spot. He doesn't live in a temple. He doesn't wear robes or have a topknot. He doesn't live in China and he's not Chinese. He doesn't even follow certain ritual forms of sounding profound that are standard among such teachers or drop buzzwords. So you typically need to have some background in order to see what he has. If you have a mature appetite for martial arts and want to train with the best, go check him out. If you are just curious and want to see what he's up to or if it's a good fit, he's very approachable and loves to talk about this stuff. If you're looking for cardio-kickboxing or to prove how tough you are to people, you should go somewhere else for that.

When my daughter walks in, I can see that Christine and the instructor know and take a personal interest in my daughter. I've observed the patience, kindness, and care they've shown to all students in class, which is honestly more important to me than anything else. ReVel has done a wonderful job with maintaining health safety standards and is incredibly accommodating when a class is missed by offering a virtual recording of the class and a class credit toward the next session. They are consistent with mask protocols and from what I have seen, other families are compliant with these expectations. Our experience with the recital was the best we have ever seen--bar none. It was evident that a lot of time, effort and thought went into preparing each student. From quality costumes to great choreographies, the studio did not miss. Most importantly, Christine has truly created a culture of focus on growing skills and confidence and this really shined through in the recital. Not only in the way the dancers were encouraging one another on stage but the ways in which instructors were hands on and supportive + the audience which was incredibly attentive + enthusiastic. Creating a positive culture like this doesn't happen by accident. It comes from intention, purpose + perseverance. And I'm so proud to have my daughter be a part of something as special as that. Our first season at ReVel was so wonderful + I cannot wait to see the ways in which the studio continues to grow + evolve!

The staff members were so helpful and kind, they showed the kids what to do safely, and then let them go at it on the appropriate courses. I don't know the technical terms but the ones that allowed them to clip themselves in and come down when they were ready was amazing. They treated the kids like any other climbers, and they were absolute naturals. My husband and I just watched (supervised) in awe. We took a short dinner break across the street at John's restaurant and bar (AWESOME) and then they went back to climbing until almost 9pm. It was truly one of the best days we have ever had as a family. Oh and then they begged to go back the next day so we went (equally amazing!). Their confidence skyrocketed and they are well on their way to being lifelong climbers. The only issue was that any other gym we go to will pale in comparison to our experience here! Many walls are not that high nor are the gyms as friendly to kids. Really superior facility. Thank you to the whole team! We will definitely be back!
