College Movers & Junk Hauling - This occurred not because the movers did it - but because "pine needles" (which existed for four years prior ...).

    College Movers & Junk Hauling

Where to begin? First, their communication is terrible because you'll talk to someone and the next…read morecall or text goes to someone else. I called and setup a time - I called back and the guy said I didn't have a move scheduled (got a text confirming I didn't have anything scheduled). Then people showed up at my house (I wasn't ready). The company blamed me even after I showed them the text and the call where the guy said I didn't have an appt. Move time comes - the guys are aloof and unhelpful. They didn't ask if I was okay leaving the doors open (they propped them up immediately). So then I had to find my cat. They used the front and back (while they were only two people) and messed up the door frame to the back - with nails sticking out that could've easily poked my kids (I'll come back to this). That's bad enough but professionals would have at least mentioned what they did (not try to avoid it). Professionals would say, "We screwed up - how can we help". I know this because I hired professionals after this company failed so miserably and they did something considerably minor and immediately were like, "We're sorry - that was our mistake." And that was it - taking simple accountability was all that was needed and I could not have cared less (although as professionals, they didn't screw up nearly as badly as College Movers). Back to College "Movers". They damaged furniture. They poorly packed and took very little of what I asked them to take and then they stopped before the time agreed upon and had the unmitigated gall to ask me if I would be tipping them. When the crew that came after these guys saw how they literally had thrown my things in a 10x20 storage unit and taken up a ton of space with not that much - they laughed (because these guys are laughably pathetic). Even sadder? I'm in no way a professional; the movers told me they had no way to understand how to take apart a bunk bed. I did it in the 20 minutes after they left (by myself). They are, simply, lazy. And that's fine - be lazy (but don't be movers). The worst part is that for each issue raised, their company took absolutely no responsibility. Texts indicating I had no appt? I must've confused their system (and ignore the fact that I could name who I talked to, when I called and for how long). Pictures showing the damage they did (but had not happened in the 4 years I previously lived in the home or from the movers I hired AFTER them because they were so bad) - must've been poor craftsmanship of the house, furniture, or magic. At no point was someone able to say, "You know, we could've done better." It has been (repeatedly), "Well, actually ..." If you want college movers in the vein of frat guys who are bad at their job, uninterested in professionalism, and adding to the litany of why moving sucks - these are completely your people. If you'd like a good company, go with "Moving You Forward" out of Terre Haute or "A Better Way" or literally any two people off the street.

Jack's Trash Service - Our brand new dumpster. Note the four lids.

    Jack's Trash Service

We needed a new trash collection provider desperately. Ever since Waste Management bought out our…read moreprevious vendor, Ray's, our collection was non-existent. It was a struggle every week and there were many weeks we did not get either of our two dumpsters emptied. Promises were made and never fulfilled, even in trying to upgrade our service, they would not accommodate us. WM just wasn't interested in servicing our location and eventually I found out why. We shopped around and checked every other trash collection company in the Indianapolis metro area. It wasn't until I saw Jack's driving down our rural road close to Centerton regularly that I thought we might have found a company willing to work with us when many other companies were not. As it turned out, a neighboring business down the street had switched to them a few weeks prior to us beginning our service. We previously had a three yard dumpster and a two yard dumpster. We wanted one four yard dumpster and wanted it emptied once a week. Jack's accommodated us and has regularly emptied it each week now for a month. So far we are very happy with Jack's. Our brand new dumpster has four lids instead of the usual two or one. Four works much better and the price per month is cheaper than ALL of the other companies. It was a little bit of a struggle getting service started but after speaking with our driver I understand why. WM does not want rural business, therefore Jack's is picking up all the rural business they are leaving behind plus the customers leaving WM, so they are busier than usual but are able to make the necessary adjustments to service their existing customers as well as bring on new ones. We never had a problem with Ray's until WM bought them out. We had the same guys every week. Now with Jack's, it is the same thing again, with the same guys each week. That says a lot about the company. It means their employees are being paid well enough to stay and Jack's hired good people so that don't call off work too much. Plus it is a local company, not some corporate conglomerate that is only interested in the big contracts. When we call them we get the office in Greencastle, not a call center in California as with WM.

They have broken our new trash can and tried to hide it. I have left 2 messages in the last week…read moreasking for someone to call me about this issue and no one will answer the phone, let alone return calls. Rude. About time to look for other options. I went with a small, local company to get customer service, not have my new trash can destroyed and be ignored.
