There is no separate kitchen here and they've got a counter and a huge TV (it *IS* Federal Hill after all) blocking the view of the kitchen area. Drinks are canned sodas (for $1.25 a can or something) and other flavored stuff you'd buy at 711. Our table had probably around a dozen or so burn marks on it that looked like they were from cigarettes. Within moments of being seated, we were hit with the very strong smell of 409 or something similar coming from the kitchen area. At about this point, we were thinking of running but the husband/waiter came to take our order. And besides, we'd all noticed the hookah pipes sitting next to some of the tables and we did want to try hookah. The waiter (husband?) came to take our order and we tried to order hummus for an appetizer. Apparently, the hummus was a no go because they hadn't made it yet. I guess they didn't get to the 'restaurant' early enough to prepare food on their menu before they opened but whatever. We abandoned the appetizer idea and ordered some sandwiches. As we were waiting, we were discussing possibly ordering hookah. I noticed the guy was taking the hookah pipes back and washing them and staging them near a hallway for use. At that point I started to wonder if they'd left the hookah pipes sit there dirty from the previous night. We decided this was not the place to try hookah. The only positive part of the experience was the Arab TV they had on from directv or something. It looked like a mixture of music videos, variety shows and late night commercials. I always have too much fun coming up with dialogue for shows in foreign languages. The falafel I ordered was so so. I wouldn't order it again and I like falafel. We all ate our food quickly and left.
