I took in several Johnny Was blouses, thinking they were in the designer category. I got a laugh and a pitying response that they are definitely not designer. Everything I had was like new, and somewhat expensive when purchased. I walked right out. Did not quibble or react. I thought it was mean behavior. I almost felt bad for her. I am glad that there is recourse in this way. Imagine being treated so badly on a very bad day, or with clothes from a mother who just past. I have come here for an emergency interview outfit, back to school outfits, and retail therapy and was beyond satisfied every time! I love all of Dannie's staff that I've met so far, everyone was so helpful and conversational! Dannie herself is so sweet, and her business helps with sustainability and is an asset to Duluth. It's a great Duluth secret, my friends and I will go for the fun finds, and I've made a friend in class when I found out she was wearing something from Dannie! I wish more people knew of it, I just got 3 amazing quality sweaters for $8.50 and I highly recommend if you're into vintage, thrifting, sustainability, or just enjoy shopping! The nice window displays drew me in, but that's the best part. This shop is seriously overpriced and the woman behind the counter never acknowledged us until she had a rude comment. Also, when my friend decided she no longer liked a purse she chose, she was told she had to buy it because it was "already rung up and credited to the consignor" and "you have the money..." I brought a beautiful, 500.00, never been worn dress to this establishment and it was accepted into consignment. I returned less than a month later to check on it as you are not allowed to call, there's no accounting process and it had been sold - I looked through EVERY SINGLE RACK, every single item there, asked if there were any items waiting to be restocked or if everything they had was out on display, etc. My dress was gone. It was not there. It had to be sold. She never ever sent me a check and when I called to inquire said that "it must have not sold and had been donated to charity" (even though she ensured me that this would not happen for 4+ MONTHS! after multiple price reductions). She's a scam! She openly admits that you CAN NOT get your items back if they do not sell (which is not what consignment is), you can not call and check on your consignments, she has no real paper-trail system or accounting system other than a quarter sheet of paper where you put your info and she staples it to a tag. She is a scam! Everyone in Duluth, I now find out, talks about how wretched of a person she is both in business and personally. She treats you like 5th class citizen and then steals your money. This place has been around for a long time but it ought to go run in the slums where it belongs - same with the owner. She's a horrible business person. read more

I have shopped at Danni Duluth many times and consigned my clothes there, also. It is hit or miss, as you would expect with a consignment shop, but I have found plenty of clothes there that I got for a good price. However, the owner makes the shopping not worth it. She is extremely condescending and rude. I almost died of shock the first time she smiled at me. After hearing similar stories from other people (a friend's mom was denied a bag to put her purchases in and was told "Put it in your purse and learn to conserve a little"), I am through. And that's just the shopping angle. I have been a little wary of the accounting process, since she claims to donate clothing that does not sell after a certain period of time. How is a consigner supposed to be assured that the clothing isn't just being sold with the owner pocketing all of the sales? Not that when it sells you get much, anyway... I have brought in bags and bags and bags of nice clothing, shoes, unused name-brand purses, etc., and have seen a grand total of approximately $25. Sketchy as you-know-what. The owner is indeed a wretched businesswoman. I had 2 bad experiences there years ago and have never returned. Why would I patronize a shop where I'm treated poorly? My friends in Duluth all say the same thing: she is horribly arrogant and rude. I recently went to Take 2 Consignments in Superior and it was a much different experience. Over the years I have brought clothes in to Dannie's for her to sell and I have been somewhat pleased. I realize she has a big inventory so I appreciated what she could sell for me. I recently lost 60 lbs. and brought a couple car load of clothes to her last Fall. They would have retailed for at least $1,500 if not more. To date I have received two check from her amounting to approximately $55. I wonder what she did with all my beautiful and almost new clothes. I had called and asked if she was accepting clothing and the gal that answered said "yes", but after driving 80 plus miles they said they were not taking my size. She finally took them and now I wonder if she ever priced them and offered them for sale. I have taken clothes to "Cinderella's Closet" and have been paid several hundred dollars. My one and only visit was this; I had my own coat near my feet, trying on the consigned coats: "Pick up that coat! Don't leave it on the floor like that!!" I stop in here a couple times a year and always find some things I like and are priced fairly to add to my clothes collection. I was a little surprised by the other comments. I have never brought clothes in to consign, so I don't know how that half of the business goes. I have always found the owner to be friendly, but yet all business. She doesn't greet you when you enter the store, but she is the only one there so you have to give her some slack. I'd say if you haven't been here to give it a chance. Way nicer clothes than over-priced Goodwill and when there's a sale, you can really score some designer clothes at reasonable prices. I got a banana republic dress and a pair of silver jeans for $8 each, a kate spade dress for $12. One thing I would add, this is a women's store. Nothing for men. read more

Warning! I came to this consignment looking for some reasonable clothes, but I got a rude awakening by the uptight owner. She has a rule that after you try on clothes you have to keep the hanger. I was unaware of this and I forgot my hanger, and when I went to check out she said " it looks like you stole this". And since I couldn't find the hanger, couldn't buy this. But I was passionate about buying the romper, so I had to find another hanger to give her so it didn't look like I stole it. Ugh she is so annoying and doesn't understand customer service. This is the 2nd time I've had a rude time at Dannie Duluth. This crazy lady will never change! If you're walking by this store, turn away and never come back! I don't usually take the time to write negative reviews, but I'm so upset with the way I was treated by the owner of Dannie Duluth that I feel a negative review is worth my time. I've never sold to Dannie before and when I walked in today with some designer dresses to sell I was made to feel stupid. The owner sighed heavily while trying to explain their consignment policy and acted as if I was annoying her. By the way, if you're looking to sell here, the policy is that you leave your clothes with her and she'll pay you later if they sell. When I asked whether I would get any money right away upon handing over my clothes, she ROLLED HER EYES and condescendingly said, "You didn't actually think we'd give you money when you handed over your clothes?" Um, yes. Actually, that is exactly what I thought. I told her I thought it best not to sell to her and she said, "Good." I left the store, feeling about two inches tall, without so much as a "thank you for stopping." What happened to good customer service? There are many other great, local businesses in Duluth worthy of you dollar. Dannie is not one of them. I will not set foot in this store again. read more

I love this store. They often have 50% off sales. The clothes are attractively displayed in two large rooms. I've found both play clothes and professional work clothes alike. I have never felt the need to write a review before in my life. But after what I just expirienced at this consignment store I felt the need to do so. She has an incredible knack at making a good stand up citizen feel as if one is possibly a drug addict or thief, simply in the way she looks at you or her stand offish way in which she addresses you. I simply wanted to know if I could make a few bucks on a jacket that no longer fit me. But she made it clear that not only did she want nothing to do with what I was trying to sell but she made it quite clear that she didn't even want me in her store at all. Simply told me she does not buy men's followed by a goodbye. I gathered in about 5 mins that unless you are a wealthy elderly person she does not want your business. I felt really angry about Dannie Duluth, but I will let my stories from just half an hour in the store explain themselves. When my friends went to get prom dresses to try on, she made sure they were carrying them correctly. After she said that, she told them to be careful with the hangers. As the group (my two friends and the owner) approached me, one of my friends handed me a dress to try on. While we all stood there with out dresses, she proceeded to tell them that my two friends had to share a dressing room, because she only had three dressing rooms open at the moment, inferring that we weren't allowed to have our own dressing rooms. I decided that I didn't want to try the dress on, just because I didn't like the dress my friends had picked for me. Then, as I said I didn't want to try on the dress, the owner said to me "if you aren't serious about this, then you can't try it on. We only allow serious shoppers in our store." Then she pulled the dress from my hands, and walked away. She still made my two friends share a dressing room. I was angry at this point, but decided I wouldn't let it get to me too much. I went to go look at other clothing in the store, and my other friend over heard the owner and her co-worker talking about how horrible and disorderly we were. At that point I was just fuming, but still continued to shop. Later, my friend picked up a shirt and asked me if I wanted to try it on. The owner appeared out of nowhere to say "There are no dressing rooms available!". That one was more weird than rude. My last incident is the one that was my breaking point. I went to go look at clothes in the other part of the store with two of my friends, where the evening gowns are. Oddly enough, the owner followed us back there and gave us a speech on how prom season was over, and we couldn't try any of the prom dresses on, unless we had a special event. Or our parents, and two of our parents were there shopping with us. Lastly., she told us that she had many other customers in the store, and not enough room to try have us trying on dresses just for fun. Which is realllllllly funny because there were about two people in there, other than the group I was with. After she left that part of the store, my friends and I made the executive decision that we weren't going to give such a rude woman our money, so we put our clothes on whichever rack was closest to us and walked to the front of the store. The owner stopped us and said "Could you girls go get the clothes that you put back there and bring them back to the rack they were on?". It was not really a question, more like a command. I basically yelled "Okay, fine" and grabbed the clothes from the other room, and brought them back. My friend then asked her where we should put them, and she said "Well, normally you'd come out of the dressing room and put them on this red rack right here.". I put my clothes there, as did my two friends. My friend's mom said "Okay, we're leaving.", all of us complied. One of my friends (who did have their own dressing room, surprisingly). I was so angry. How does a person stay in business, when they are that rude to young women, who are actually pretty serious shoppers? I am not just being an emotionally unstable fifteen year old who wants to rant about adults here, our parents noticed it too. We left the store, but one of my friends and her mom were still in the store, trying stuff on. As my friend tried a shirt on, the owner and worker started talking about how disorderly we were. Another shopper saw my friend's shock and laughter at their immaturity, and told my friend "I know, they're awful." After my friend paid for her shirt, we all left, angry. When we got home, we called her to tell her that what she did was not okay. She wouldn't admit any sort of fault. Also, she's a little bit obsessed with her hangers and how they are organized. If you're thinking about going to Dannie's, don't. The selection of clothes is a bit odd and She'll berate you if you aren't what she considers a 'serious shopper'. Which isn't okay. BEFORE THIS DAY I DIDNT KNOW WITCHES EXISTED. As a teenager, i understand people don't see us as extremely professional. Most people would keep it to themselves. Not here. 3 dressing rooms were open and 3 girls needed to try something on. She disrespectively stated that they had to share a room because they had "a lot" of customers at the store, may I add, just 1 or 2 customers other than us were there. One girl decided not to try on the dress she had in her hand, the owner then said she was not a serious shopper. That's only one part of our visit. 2 of my friends and I, went to the back to look at dresses. She followed us and watched us the whole time. We got so mad that we put our things down and were ready to leave, she then yelled at us to put our stuff on a different rack, to keep the shop "organized", the clothes are thrown in random places, it is no where near organized. Most of us were out of the shop when one more from my group came out and told us the owners were talking bad about us. They were saying we weren't "serious shoppers". We shopped there less than 3 years ago and saw the cutest dress in the window, we went inside and after about 10 minutes, the shop keeper asked if we needed help, we asked if we could see the dress in the window, she refused, said we would have to wait until she changed the window display. I told her we were from out of town and she said, it didn't matter. Needless to say, not only did the person that put the dress on consignment lost a sale, so did the one running the shop that day. CAUTION!! You can't shop here unless you are a "serious shopper" (incase you don't know the requirements for a serious shopper, 15 year old girls on vacation with a lot of money to spend is NOT what she considers a serious shopper). To start, the clothes are nothing spectacular, there might be some good finds but it is not worth facing the wicked witch of Duluth. 2 friends and I wanted to try on a dress but the woman snatched the dress from my friend and would not let her try it on because she was not a "serious shopper". She made the other two of us share a dressing room because she had to leave the other ones open for her REAL customers. The entire time we were watched like a hawk and she would butt into our conversations and continued making snappy comments the entire time. We left the store with out buying any thing because we were so appalled. My mom and sister were still in the dressing room but she had the NERVE to start talking about us, calling us rude, and started talking about how our parents we to blame! Costumers are doing her a favor, paying HER money, but we don't have to shop there. Costumers can choose where they want to shop but owners can't make people shop at their store. The way she treats people she should be thankful to get a costumer to stay in her store and put up with her long enough to buy anything! Be prepared to have the woman sneak rack to rack and pop up out of nowhere to yell at you some more and DO NOT LOOSE HER HANGERS! I bet the nightmares that keep her up at night are about we loosing a hanger! Please don't give this store business as long as the woman acts like this! Sells womens clothing, accessories, and shoes. Advertises an as upscale consignment shop, but many of the brands are those from walmart, target, etc. I have been disappointed with the condition of some of the clothes, in that they are stained, faded, etc, but if you have time to throughly browse, it may prove worth it. I have not found the owner to be particularly friendly, which detracts from the overall shopping experience. read more

The first time I went to Dannie Duluth was to look for a formal dress for a fraternity/sorority event. I saw this nice blue dress that had some flaws in the stitching but was in fairly good shape. I asked one of the employees to get the dress down for me so that I could try it on. The lady turned to me and said "That won't fit you" with a sneer on her face. So I asked what the size was, for which she replied an 8. I told her I wanted to try it on and she begrdugingly let me. I tried it on and it fit perfectly, I bought the dress against better jusdgement but I left feeling hurt and like a fat cow the way she treated me. I hadn't returned in year, but did so just today because my mom and sister were visiting. This same women, who I would later find out is the owner, was equally as rude. I went into the fitting room to try on a blouse. I left the fitting room for a minute to use a mirror. In the 30 seconds i was out of the fitting room she had gone in there and taken all of my personal belongings out and said "We don't allow fitting rooms to be reserved, we are a busy store and are doing business" I turned to her and said I came out her to use a mirror and wasn't even gone for a minute, she goes "Well thats our policy!" Just to mention all of the fitting rooms were empty and so was the store! And she clearly knew who I was, she could have addressed me personally instead of removing my personal belongings from the fitting room. This women clearly has no common sense or decency. DO NOT SHOP HERE. WARNING. I have never had worse service at any store than at this consignment shop. All of the people that I was shopping with and myself were extremely disrespected. The owner always had a rude comment to say to us. After a few of the people I was shopping with had left the store, the owner and another worker were talking behind their backs and gossiping terrible things about my friends. My friends left while I was still in the dressing room because they were treated awfully. The owner is constantly on everyone's case about where to put hangers. We were told that we were "NOT SERIOUS SHOPPERS" and she had two of my friends SHARE A DRESSING ROOM because she did not address us seriously. We were being very respectful towards her. There is clothing for all ages but yet she does not appreciate respectful and responsible teenagers. I am never going to this store again and I suggest that nobody else goes there either. I am a customer who wanted to but clothes and was treated like crap. The owner acted like she was disgusted with all of us. While she was gossiping about my friends all of the other customers in the store heard her rude comments and one customer said to me "I KNOW SHE IS AWFUL." I was a "regular" at Dannie Duluth along with my daughter for many years. I had heard and read many negative reviews about this business, but had always been treated fairly. Last week, my daughter, husband and I were shopping there when the owner rudely approached my 20 year old daughter. She said, "Are you going to try that on? If not hang it up behind the counter!" We have never been spoken to in that tone before in ANY store. My daughter said, "I'm not going to try that on, I'm done here. Go ahead and continue to shop, Mom." I couldn't. My heart was broken and I approached the owner and said, "My daughter and I have been regulars here for years and we used to have fun shopping here." The owner pasted on a wide smile and said, "Thanks!" I said, "We WERE having fun until you profiled my daughter as someone who was untrustworthy." She then flew into this bizarre "Cruella DeVille" tirade, screaming, "THAT IS HOW I TALK TO EVERYONE! I WAS JUST TELLING HER HOW THE STORE WORKS!" She went from being pleasant when she thought she was getting a compliment, to a screaming lunatic in two seconds flat. "I TELL EVERYONE HOW THE STORE WORKS IF THEY AREN'T REGULARS!" Well, guess what? We were "regulars" and were mistaken as "common folk" i.e. someone to verbally abuse. I told her she needed to brush up on her common courtesy. "I HAVE TO BE ON GUARD, SINCE I AM WORKING ALONE!" she screamed as her head bounced up and down like a bobble headed doll. Well, I wonder why you are working alone. Watch out all you "regulars" out there that defend this twit. I used to be one of you, but no more! There are some basic courtesies that apply when one wants to keep their door open. My husband told her that kindness goes a long way in business and that she just lost several long standing customers. She screeched at us through clenched teeth, "YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHOP HERE!". OK everyone, you heard her. I wish I had had my iphone camera rolling. it was quite a bizarre performance. I think someone is off her meds. There are plenty more shops in this area that don't make you feel like a criminal for shopping there. I was very disappointed with my visit to Dannie-Duluth Consignment. The clothes were way overpriced and the owner was extremely rude. I am a well-dressed 31 year old women and I felt like I was treated like a shady looking teenager. She kept following me around, telling me to "keep the hanger with the outfit" Well duh... did she think I was going to throw the clothing on the floor? She told me she hadn't seen me around ( I live out of town) and that she just wanted to clarify the "rules" for me. You could tell that she was trying her very best to be polite, but she made me and the people with me uncomfortable. It was very obvious that she felt very uncomfortable with all of the customers moving her "things" around. I have always been a polite customer and have always rehung everything I have ever tried on and made a point to put everything back exactly where I found it. I have never in my life made a review about anything, but it bothered me so much, I felt that I had to. Some people shouldn't work with customers if they can't handle it. Although there were several things I would have liked to have purchased, I went away with nothing, in fact, I waited outside until the rest of my party joined me.
